IowaRB240SX wrote:You are right, it's not. But guns were used so the topic will come up. That's inevitable. In all, we are trying discuss our feelings on the matter, and to debate how to prevent this. And a good debate has to be argued from both sides. I am not bringing up gun control, but I will defend my side of the issue. Everyone has an opinion, and should be free to discuss/defend it. But we are all too wiling to blame the weapon, not so much the guy holding it. Would you all be yelling "hair dryer control" if he would have thrown an energized one into the pool killing 33?

Sure, we all see things differently, but we all agree on one thing, this was a tragedy that should have been prevented, or at least de-escilated.

How about this scenario. As reports are still comming in, what we know is that this guy was pissed at his GF which was probably the original target for his aggression. Now let's take this, maybe the guns were his fathers or maybe he amassed them during his period of being "normal" and perfactly fit to owning a firearm. But in his short life he got a girlfriend who he fell for and then she maybe banged somebody else and he found out about it. Now there can be different outcomes, one he is sooo pissed off at her that now everything "bad" that ever happened in his life finally combined with this last event push him over the edge and he looks over at the arsenal of weapons he has and gets an idea. There is no time for him to think of this rationaly or to cool off since these weapons are there right now readily available at a blinks notice to help him carry out his plan. As we horribly know he carried that plan out and we are left with 33 people dead. Now you say that nothing will stop a criminal from getting a gun and killing somebody if they truly want. I agree but it would take one thing, time, maybe time to find somebody, time to go out and buy these weapons legaly or illegaly and maybe time to regain ones senses and figure out that they are not in their right mind at this point and possibly seek help. But then again you say that sure maybe he will never cool off he'f crazy and will always be crazy, ok lets wait the legal amount of time for him to obtain a 9mm weapon, let's wait for him to get illegal weapons, a week a month or 2 same ending 33 people dead. Now lets go and take the guns away from everybody except the police and armed forces, than you'll say to me he'll think of another weapon to take life, a bomb, or a knife or whatever, and people still die. Now we are talking about a psychopath that pretty much thinks of nothing all in his life except how to kill people which I belive is not the case here, this seems more like a stress/psychotic breakdown of somebody, possibly a period of temporary insanity. And gun crimes far outweigh bomb crimes in our history. What is the right thing to do here? Will something come out of this? Don't know either, but people tend to copy other people, killers get ideas from killers and if things continue the way they are we will most likely have more of these type of horrible days and innocent people being ripped away from their families forever. I apologize if I offended anybody or the time isn't for this type of post right but I'm just touching up on the thoughts that make me think in this thread. Prayers to all the one who lost their loved ones on this tragic day.

DriftingJesus you're an ignorant fuvking moron.Asian here, African American with the D.C. sniper shootings, White with Columbine. Ethnicity has nothing to do with it. Having the mental capacity of a waterhead like you, is what causes atrocities like this. DJ, you can kindly go play on a busy freeway now, preferably blindfolded.

My sympathy goes out to all who were harmed in any way by this tragedy.

absolutely unreal. i can't figure out why people resort to doing such things. i will say that this guy woke up with a purpose this morning because he fired off ALOT of bullets to injure 30 and kill 32........even with 2 9mm. As a fellow college student (not at vtech) i can sympathize for all those who really just woke up to go to class and take notes.............

as for the administration, schools really don't have a policy as to how to handle such incidences. do you blame them? things like this are VERY uncommon and how the hell do you coordinate 11 grand worth of students to evacuate or be kept safe. I'm not sticking up for the university's actions but try to think about it logically. No college has a failsafe plan as to evacuation of all faculty and students............

Last but not least, my condolences to all the families of all the victims (alive and dead) as things like this are life changing experiences. We can only pray that there is NOT a repeat because surely none of those people deserved to die today.

No need to be a racist either. There are many ways to add a little levity, without coming off as a supremest. However this thread is not the place.

***EDIT***Oh, that is not being a freak either... there are many ways that I could have dealt with that situation. That was the least hostile, and you can still post today.

I did not read the warning posted directly above me. I am pushing to get a ban. Just like RICERMAN, a mod had to edit my post. I will try not to be a waterhead in the future.

Woah, I guess he knows the shooter personally, and knows his preference in video games. What a ****tard. They will also find a way to link it to premarital sex. If the shooter and his girlfriend had never done it, he wouldn't have gone psycho. It makes me sick how people spin a tragedy like this for their own personal gain. I had to turn off the news yesterday because I could tell the journalists were enjoying this too much. Just the way they talk, and how eager they are to be in front of the camera at all times shows that they get off on this sort of ****. I want to be kept in the loop, but I don't want to watch someones tragedy turned into a media circus. I guess I will just rely on my fellow Nico people to keep me in the loop.

Hey "beancooker"!

I can't defend my stand on guns, but you as a moderator can have an avitar with a profane gesture in it? I don't think that's appropriate, I am offended.

Hey gang, I have an idea to help out a little bit... A way for NICO to show our support.

I heard on the news earlier an interview with the student body president. He appealed to businesses outside the Blacksburg area to help out.

They are holding a vigil this evening on the drill field. . They are expecting 40,000 students and community members. They are extremely short of candles.. they've emptied the local stores of candles and need many more.

Perhaps we at NICO can help out in a small way with this need.

Could we pull together some donation money and find a member outside of Blacksburg who might be interested in heading there this evening. If we could throw some money together and get it to a semi-local member who could then use that money to buy as many candles as they can find in their town.. then bring those candles to Blacksburg for the vigil this evening..

Just an idea.. any volunteers in the Virginia area who might be interested????

Did you not read the warning that was posted, where it says DO NOT DEBATE GUN POLICY. That is why I posted what I did.

If my avitar offends you, then so be it, I'll change it. You are the first to about it.
