I had been browsing the forums last night while at work. I've caught up on everything posted the past two nights. I work night shift, in North Dakota. :ohno: I have been drooling over the performance parts and this build. I purchased a 1995 300ZX SMZ TT a few months back from a guy in Iowa. He had the motor redone but it isn't as wild as this build. I've got JWT 530BB turbos and mine puts out about 493 on 110 octane at 22lbs of boost. I've got those Speciality Z switching clock computers where you can switch the tunes. It has a tune for 93 octane and 110 octane. I only got to drive my car for a weekend when I visited home. I live in Oklahoma but work on the road most of the year. I've been buying parts the whole time I've been out working. I'm impressed by the amount of parts and modifications available for the 300ZX. When I get back to the house I'll have tons of stuff to do and parts to install as well. Anyway I noticed that there hadn't been any more updates. I am very interested to see more updates. The components and build are nothing less of spectacular. I am interested to see more video and see what you get out of the dyno tune. I might want to upgrade my turbos and fuel system to push a little bit more horsepower. Just looking at this build gives me the itch to go on a parts shopping spree and do more to mine. It's hard to do anything to my car when I haven't even had much time to get acquainted with it the way it is. Anyway, SHOW ME MORE!!

Hehe thanks for the good words!

Last Saturday I discovered that I was going to have to pull the trans back out because in the beginning of the build I installed the clutch disk backwards and it drove fine for about 1630 miles then it started having disengagement issues. So we pulled the trans down and everything looked fine visually but now I am still having disengagement problems but not nearly as bad so I have a hunch that it damaged the fingers on pressure plate.

Currently I am "pausing" the Z for a few days because Wednesday my Frontier (daily) got rear ended and I need to get that all situated ect. :(

Just curious, where abouts in ND are you working and what are you up? I am from Saskatchewan working over in Bottineau County pushing a drilling rig :mike

Currently in Tioga doing QA/QC for Kiewit/TIC for the Hess gas plant expansion. Winding this deal down. Night shift ends the 24th and then I'll be rolled back on days for a week or two. I'm ready to go play in my 300ZX but this job is what pays for all my toys so it will be bitter sweet going back home till the next job comes along. Will be nice to go back home and have a life again because there is absolutely nothing up here in BFE.

Why did you use NA oil squirters on a TT setup? I thought converting from NA to TT recommended picking up a set of TT oil squirters and unplugging the oil passages in the block?

I made it through like 8 pages and ran out of time looking for the answer.

Hah its cool.

The reason why I used NA squirters is because I went with aftermarket forged pistons. The stock TT squirters are designed to spray into the holes on the sides of the OEM TT piston caps which actually forces oil to go inside of the piston. The aftermarket forged pistons don't have these oil inlets so the OEM TT oil squirters would be useless for an aftermarket forged piston setup on the VG30. By switching to the OEM NA oil squirters the oil is redirected to the wrist pin so that is the reasoning behind it. Make sense?

So yes if you were converting your engine to a TT you should pick up a set of TT oil squirters only if you will be running OEM TT pistons.

Makes perfect sense. It also means that next year when I start the TT build for my buggy I can use an NA or TT donor motor since I want to replace the entire rotating assembly with aftermarket stuff (except maybe the crank). I just kind of assumed all the aftermarket TT pistons stayed true to the OEM design, but it makes sense they just designed a good piston and ignored how nissan did it at the factory.

I'm still waiting on more pictures and videos. I've been eying some of those 700 turbos pretty hard lately. I've got a set of 530's. Trying to decide on if I wanted to make the upgrade with the intake and exhaust mods. Was thinking about just doing the intake and exhaust mods and keep the 530's. How have those 700's been working out for you?

Good luck with everything. You certainly are going the extra 10 miles. A question on the timing belt from the first post. Are the Kevlar belts really that reliable? I think their site mentions 2.6 times that of a regular belt. They only list for a TT product though...so a newb question would be would the same belt work on my NA? 3 times the regular price is a good investment over a new engine or having to do it again in 60-120k.

Thanks,

Evan

I'll take some more pictures soon! I'm about to have it back on the road.

They are great! They offer a very nice fast spool up and great mid range power.

My advice, keep the 530's and upgrade the intake, intercooler and exhaust. IMHO 700's would be a down grade if you didn't upgrade everything else to support them. Do you get what I mean?

IMHO the upgraded timing belt has nothing to do with how often it has to be replaced. I still will change it out at 60k, right now I have about 2k miles on everything.

Honestly I don't think you should put one on a NA Z. It isn't worth the extra cost, OEM will be fine.

Damn thats amazing.. im gonna probably get a 93-96 2+2 N/A with a god load of miles so its cheaper then swap it with a used VG30DETT with low miles because new would be to expensive wat do you guy think

Hey welcome to NICO!

IMHO I think it makes more sense to just save up for a factory TT rather than doing a swap on an NA chassis. Also don't get a 1996 model, aftermarket support is very limited and OEM replacement parts are also very limited.

IMO I think the 95 TT is the best year to buy, followed by 90-91 (because of large production numbers used and new OEM parts are readily available) then 92-93-94 would be the next best and 96 would the worst. Again this is just my opinion.

Hope this helps!

Both! Just been busy with work ect, all I have to do is install the trans again and I should be back up and running. She runs great (aside from some vac leaks) can't wait to get back to driving her. Best part about it is that I live in South West Louisiana I can drive my car year round!

Actually yes! The Z is back up and running and shifting as it should up on stands. I am redoing my ebrake system right now hopefully I can finish up this week and start driving her again. :)

Lol I haven't driven it yet since the clutch problem was resolved. I ended up just buying everything again new and installed it and bam... Good to go.. It was shifting up on stands allowing me to push the clutch in and the rear wheels stopped getting power. So the new setup fixed the issue and all I have to do is install the new drum brake pads and then I'll take it off the stands. :)

I may have to adjust the clutch pedal or something but I won't know that until I drive it on the road.

I just read through your build and you have built a truly beautiful car. The only question I have is, where are the updates?

Thanks man! Currently I am just taking it easy cruising around town ect. The thing holding me back from AutoX is getting a solid tune. I am hoping that there will be a group dyno tune somewhere close by that I can join before the end of the summer.

Hey man I just made an account but I have been reading your thread on and off for a few years now. I want to own a 300zx TT so bad and I would settle for nothing less than perfect just like you but after seeing how much effort and struggle you have gone through I'm not sure I have the skills to build one of these perfect machines. Its my dream car and i can't convince myself to decide against getting one(no matter how hard my wife or myself can convince me) so I'm still dead set on getting one. My only other option in "dream car" status is the 2011 cts-v but that's behind the z. Anyways enough of my rambling, is there any new progress updates?
