Yep, coming from the bottom is way easier and you dont risk bending the radiator frame or brake master cyl or lines lifting it out.

UPDATE

My drive shaft from ShaftMasters came in today!

I went with steel for multible reasons. But the main reason is obviously durability.

Here are the pics.

Now look at the package it came in, it looks damn near bullet proof. I kinda messed the box up when i was opening it.. Before i started trying to get it open the box it was in great shape.

It has rivets holdling that metal thing in there.

Now the actual shaft notice the quality and attention to detail. Also when i am standing near it i can still smell the paint :)

No core charge because everything is brand new!

The quality and customer service was amazing. Fast free shipping!

Anyone who is in the market to buy a high performance driveshaft or just a replacement would have to be crazy not to buy it from shaftmasters.

I'm not all that knowledgeable on this subject, but aren't the aluminum driveshafts plenty strong enough and less weight?

Generally for aluminum to be as strong as the steel they have to be much thicker thereby weighting more, thereby negating the use of aluminum. Basically on a car like the Z32 the difference in weight ends up being a couple pounds and not justifiably enough to go for a weaker shaft IMO. Now stainless is a whole different story but a true SS unit will run way more than steel or aluminum.

^ bingo.

The paint that shaft masters uses is tuff if you bought a drive shaft from them you wouldn't have to worry about rust.

I mean look at your stock driveshaft for example hah mine is 20 years old on my car and has no rust 20 years later.
Keep in mind I do live in the south. Possible that the stock oem drive shaft may have issues after 20 years living life up north on the salty roads :gotme .

The steel can handle the abuse.. Aluminum will start trying to buckle and flex to much...

Anton is completely right..

I wouldn't be worried about the driveshaft, I'd be more worried about rotted crossmembers and rotted rocker panels as they're harder to replace than a driveshaft. :ohno:

Thus, the main reason why once I get enough money to leave Boston I'm taking my z with me :yesnod

The Powertrain AL shaft that IPP sells has been tested to withstand over 700RWHP. It's 18lbs lighter than stock, but probably only about 10lbs lighter than the steel. I'm also unsure if that's 700RWHP for spirited driving or all-out drag racing.

CF is the ultimate baller shaft.

The key word in that ^ quote is "I" Meaning "you" which you live in boston haha where you have to worry about rusted chassis

We don't have to worry about rotted crossmembers or rocker panels in Louisiana (or the south in general). Thats only for you guys to worry about up north ha :chuckle: .

Making money, selling parts, chilling on nico, and working on the VG... Sounds like vacation. :chuckle:

If were not too busy and I can really get to do some hard core wrenching on the engine. I'll be updating throughout the day!

Side note: some people that live and breath chevy trucks came in earlier and saw the VG and they were like "WTF is that" (yall should have seen them look at it haha they didn't know wft the VG was)
I said "thats a VG30DETT"
they said "whats that mean"
I told them
Then they asked "TWIN TUURRBOOED FROM THE FACTORY?"
I said :yesnod
They said whats it go in
BLA BLA BLA they asked more questions they were so curious. The 3 of us continued to talked a little bit as I answered their questions about the Z.
Then I sold them a tail light for their truck :gapteeth:

UPDATE for my dusty mistress!

Last night my buddies and I prepared my engine bay for paint. We stripped the fairlady pretty bare she still needs a few more things taken off and some more sanding/cleaning. Then she will be ready for the first coat of primer I bought all my painting supplies. We plan apply the first coat of primer Wednesday after work which means i'll have an update Thursday.

She is already sanded and we did a black wrinkle finish to the booster along with other brackets and heat shields. (pic doesn't do justice).

Right before we lay the primer (hopefully wednesday depending on the weather) we will lightly sand everything again then clean that way we know for a fact that there is no surface rust.

Here are the pics.

Here are some of the heat shields and brackets.

IMHO, any color change from engine bay to exterior is a thumbs down. Nothing personal, just my preference. If you're painting the car over, why not do the whole thing one of the two colors?

Opinon respected.

I am going to have the entire car painted but not until I go j-spec so prob a year or 2. The paint on my Z is damn near perfect right now problem is that its not a factory color (I think the previous owner painted it 370z pearl white I have seen my car next to a 370z painted pearl white and they look very similar). SOO that put me in a pickle because pearl white is very hard to match.

So I was thinking would if I went with a color that didn't have to match. (read: was not supposed to)

I thought about that for a week then started searching for colors at o'reilys and saw the white gold then fell in love. I feel that its going to make my engine bay pop. Plus its apart of my overal color scheme for my engine bay.

In that case, when you go JSPEC in 2 years, paint the car to match the engine bay, IMHO. Or do what you like. Personally I think you could rock a hot pink Z as fast as it's going to be :chuckle:
