you must reset your mileage counter everytime you get in the car... you can trick the car into doing 28 MPG for the first 10 - 50 miles after you reset it by coasting alot... or if you reset it while driving on the highway... but with daily driving , the 3.5 doesn't do 28 mpgScandinavian Flick wrote:when im driving i get a solid 28 MPG ,, when my wife is driving its closer to 24 MPG, i always feel bad for my car when she is driving, its either the gas is floored or hard on the brakes, every time right before she drives it i go out and apologize to my car for what it is about to endure.

most copanies overestimate their gas mileage... NO COMAPNY purposefully underestimates it!!! Again, if you do mostly highway driving, then its understandable to get mid 20's, but high 20's with city driving is impossible in the 3.5. Again, maybe for the first few miles, you can fool your car , but after 500 or so miles after resetting your computer, I just can't see it happening... ... right now, what does gas milage and miles per gallon estimates read?Scandinavian Flick wrote:you all need to quit flooring your 3.5's all the time , the a/c with the 3.5 is completely capable of getting 28mpg , maybe i do more highway driving then most, and i understand that this car over time can cause lead to build up in your right foot therefore making it hard to hold back, but if you are concerned with mileage, then time to ease up
that is quite incredible, the gas mileage increase would more then pay for the turbo in just a matter of a couple of years08altima35 wrote:since this is now a gas mileage thread. I get about 33-34 on the hwy since getting the turbo and am averaging around 25 city. I reset the mpg right before getting to the track the other night and also raced all the way home on I-45 (30 miles) with 4 maxima's and 1 240SX and still ended up with 22 mpg average.

Actually, with the new EPA gas mileage standards, the gas mileage is somewhat understated- the new rules incorporate for much faster accelerations, more stop and go driving, and bad weather conditons. If you drive your 3.5 like an old lady, you can get those types of gas mileagerjdmmfl1 wrote:

so i finally went out to check this, i havent reset the fuel mileage readout in about 2000 miles, and it was at 26.1 now thats an average of my wife and I both driving. now before everyone flips out saying that 26.1 is impossible let me just reiterate that i do a lot of highway drivng,rjdmmfl1 wrote:

use the high grade its only 4 dollars more if you were filling up from empty, and the average person wastes well more the 4 bucks on stupid stuff, so do your car a favor and use the good stuffpackerjd04 wrote:This 3.5 gas mileage shenanigans is blowing my mind
with mostly high way driving, I can dig that...Scandinavian Flick wrote:

Warner's comments aren't Shenanigans, turbos give you better gas mileage under non boost conditions!packerjd04 wrote:This 3.5 gas mileage shenanigans is blowing my mind
I have yet to see a company that understates their gas mileage... CNn did a special on like 10 random companies.. and under normal, daily fdriving and highway conditions... actual test results ranged from being 2-10 mpg OVERestimated, but not a single company actually did their advertised gas mileagemarlin29311 wrote:

I agree with you completely in saying that mileages can be overstated, but that is all again dependent on driving conditions and styles. If you look at the window sticker that you get with your new car, there are the big numbers that say your gas mileage for city and highway (19 city 26 hwy, for example on the 3.5 w/ CVT), but underneath of those numbers are ranges of what people can expect to get under different driving conditions (i'd put what mine say, but i can't walk out to my car during work to check). I guess it's all relative in the end....rjdmmfl1 wrote: I have yet to see a company that understates their gas mileage... It was on TV, this was over a year ago, before the current gas price boom... it was one of those, are the car companies accurately reporting gas mileage... they purposefully drove the cars under differeing conditions from very aggressive to very conservative, and the point they were making ius that the cars being profilied had all overestimated their gas mileage. That has not been my experience as i got the reported gas mileage for the 3.5CVt when it was still stock, but I've never seen gas mileage as high as what scandanavian flick was posting on a "non-Turbo" 3.5...marlin29311 wrote:
Side note - where is that CNN article, or was it a TV thing? I was curious to watch it...

so I think we are seing eye to eye on this point. I don't believe car companies purposefully try to decieve their customers by vastly overestimating the gas mileage, however, I do beleive that underestimating gas mileage is not somehthing done as it is NOT in their best interest...
yeah its a damn shame...Stumpjumper wrote:Sorry to steer thread in another direction...but the 2.5 or the 3.5 cvt outnumber all the manuals that responded combined!
its not a shame, its just supply and demand...Scandinavian Flick wrote:
