The 94-04 gen sounds about right. The gt is rated at 260hp. That seems to be the reason he took fergy off the line with the rwd. But then the less weight and more hp carried the AC to the win.

I think you nailed it! After scouring the net, I found a pic of a 2002 that looks exactly like the one I encountered. I knew it wasn't new so I assumed a 5L, not realizing how far back the 4.6 actually goes. Thanks, guys!

smoked lol

did ya read the thread, haha just kidding

Maybe with a bunch of mods the 2.5 would have a chance, but still.

With the big 3 hie you might have a chance.

The whole episode with the Mustang became hilarious this afternoon! It was like it was scripted!

During the winter, I lost the front undertray in an argument with a snow drift. My son and I went into Orangeville Nissan this afternoon to order a new one. First thing the young guy at the parts counter asked was "Did you happen to have a run with a Mustang the other day?" I laughed and said, "Yeah, that was me, do you know who the guy is?" He said "Yeah, he's one of our mechanics. He said you smoked him! He can't stop talking about it." Just then the mechanic comes out of the garage (he saw us walk in) and the parts guy introduced us. We chatted for a few minutes. He was totally shocked that the AC took him. The Stang is indeed a 2002 with a 4.6, and has a custom dual Magnaflow system and a CAI. I think he felt a bit better when I mentioned my AC had the intake, exhaust, and underdrive pulley but that faded when he found out it was a CVT being driven in manual mode. He went back to the garage shaking his head while the parts guy laughed. He followed us to the exit and said with a smile "Be careful of Mustangs out there - they're all gonna be looking for you now!"

My son and I drove away just howling!

very true.a v6 mustang took me from the light, but i had less then a car length pulling on him before the bend where we slowed it down because its usually pretty hot with cops. the A/C are VERY light, and i love it

ferg, good stuff dude.. that's hilarious... I can't wait for the bully dog tuner and racingline Y=pipe to come out.... should have nice results.... again, for the haters reading this... NOBODY IS SAYING THAT THE A/C WITH BOLT ONS WILL BEAT A COBRA .... we're just saying that with bolt ons and a tune, it'll be interesting to see what the CVT A/C can do...

sorry for the caps, but surely there are douches reading this that'll think we think our cars ar M3 killers, and clearly no one has stated anything ridiculous like that....

Ferg - you did a mighty fine job ftw.

Now I should have a good baseline this summer for when I put up my Tbird to the Alti

3.5se cvt vs 4.6L v8 auto - o/d off

The 2.5s would have a chance with the V6 mustangs I think. They don't push out that much power when there only the lower models. But also I think this is a race that the drivers come into play. Someone with a manual V6 mustang who can drive would probably beat a 2.5. However if the 2.5 was also a manual and not a CVT I think there could be some serious competition. Anyone have a 2.5 and a friend with a MT V6 mustang and want to test this?

Legally of course...

the 2.5s has 170 HP in cali and 175 hp in other places and the mustang has 210.... i think the mustang is heavier so it seems like it could be close..... until you factor in the torque... it has 240 pounds of torque.... the 3.5se altima coupe has 258 pounds of torque i think.... so the V6 mustang has near 3.5se torque.... its a drivers race BUT assuming the mustang driver can drive, he SHOULD beat the 2.5s... but then again, i almost beat a 5.7L pontiac GTO 5 speed (he only beat me by half a car length and then gave me a thumbs up)... the GTO SHOULD have smoked my a** badly but i guess he couldnt drive and i know that if i come across a GTO with a driver that can drive then ill loose badly for sure...

there is a button close to the trunk switch that says tcs off, push it.

i have a question... i have not messed with the tcs off function too much, but when i did i kinda felt like less power was put to the wheels. the acceleration felt way different almost a little less powerful. any thoughts anyone?

wheel spin. the other day i had it off and i tried to make a U turn real fast and it felt like the car wasnt pushing that much power till i looked back and saw the whole street full of smoke lol that wasnt something i do often so for the most part i prefer no TCS. i mean if you try to make a quick right turn and theres cars coming, i think a little bit of wheel spin is better then TCS killing the throttle and your car pretty much just stops for a sec or 2 while your in an intersection with cars coming

Agree. TCS is there to stop wheel spin. Which, on our cars, is most likely to happen in tight cornering or rapid transitions. It actually plays a very tiny part in straight line acceleration with a CVT - I turn it off, but really, it makes no noticeable difference in a straight line. It would with a MT, but not with a CVT.

Agreed Ferg, it makes a big difference with the MT. Especially since I only have the stock tires, even shifting into third it will spin the wheels on occasion. I know I need bigger and better tires, but hey I'm cheap.. But with our cars does it either say TCS or VDC? Because I have a VDC button not a TCS button.

Exactly. TCS is built into the VDC system. Lower models, like mine, have just the TCS. When someone says "Turn TCS off", they mean turn off VDC if you have it.

Next time you go racing keep it in D and not in Manual Mode. It may feel faster in MM but a guy in "the other forum" took his car to the track and drove in both modes and got faster times in D

Yeah, I'm not a drag guy, but I know the ones with experience here, like Hussain, say it's the quickest way to go. Someday, when I am lined up with a car that I failed against in MM, I'll give it a go. It's just that the constant drone in CVT mode drives me absolutely nuts!

I've been thinking about it, and LBC's recent post about getting a personalized plate has me thinking about it more. Coupled with the fact that my car is recognizable - I have a Stillen banner on my windshield - the Mustangs have started crawling all over me every time I pass through Orangeville (the town where this thread started). I haven't lost yet, though I don't think a newer one has yet found me! Unbeaten in 4 runs so far!!

Thinking about "STANGBTR" (STANG BeaTeR, STANG BiTeR) for my plate! LOL

Hoping to get RacingLine's Y-pipe about the same time as the plates...

Thoughts?

I would personally stay away from STANGKLR.. the number of Mustang Cobras and Saleens out there that could run circles around our car are just too many to count... maybe you don't have that trouble where you're from, but here, in SOCAL... that's a disaster waiting to happen... between STANGPEDE and WICKED STANGS.... not only would they embarass the A/C, but they would probably try to run you off the road in the process rockin a STANGKLR license plate... just my .03

Nah, we have no Saleens here... maybe a Cobra or two down in Toronto, but the stuff here is hot if it is a GT with a couple of bits on it. This is small town Ontario, not Cali! I honestly get greeted at my Nissan dealer like I'm a rockstar! LOL

Rob, just havin some fun with this, really. Nothin serious.

yeah, see that's the great thing about Canada... you could do that and it would be cool... in SOCAL, cats would think you're callin em out and get all but hurt over it... those two car clubs are notorious here in SOCAL.. actually, stangpede is pretty cool, but WICKED STANGS are full of street racers and ish like that that LOVE embarassing other cars... I've never ran into them on the road, just heard tons of stories...

but you know your "turf" my dude... rock the plate!!!
