I'm thinking about building a 240sx and I'd like to go alittle above the norm and shoot for 250 horse or so. How hard do you guys think this would be with a s14 sr20det swap, or would you recommend a different engine? I know 250's nothing compared to the insane hp some poeple push but I figured it'd still be quite a bit for a daily driver in a small car. Since I can do all the work myself and I'd take the money I'll save from labor and push things a little.

I know it's not techinically 'hard' to even get something liek 300 horse, but I'd like to keep costs as low as possible.

Obviously the SR20 is a NICE start to getting towards that.

Do you plan on RACING your car or basically just having it that fast for bragging rights around town?

With my last 240 (91) I just put good headers, Venom Injectors, Magnaflow muffler front to back, and tried to keep it as stock looking as possible...

It got dyno tested and was at 178HP, I always found that to be enough for me..

250HP will make for a HELL of a fun 240 though!

It'll only be a daily driver for this summer, but I do plan on doing more work next summer and racing it possibly.

well if you go with the sr power plant its not that hard to make 250 bhp, you could do it for well under 5k, but if you stick with the ka you can do it slightly cheeper than the sr, its all up to you tho, its all pretty much the same, if you stick n/a ka24de, full exhaust header back your looking at like 700$, cams 250$, injectors 400$, fpr 120$, high compression pistons 400$, new rods and bearings 400$, and a nice tune about 300$, you could be pushing over 250bhp

with the sr20det 2,300$, new intake manifold 400$, new turbo manifold 100-400$, exhaust 500$,injectors 550cc or higher 400$ and a nice tune 300$, your in the same ball park of power.

its all up to you though if you want quick and easy i'd say sr causee most shops can swap an sr in less then 3 hours, but if you want it to be your baby and you want to look at your work and feel the pride in it i'd say ka

You will never get a na KA at the 250hp mark without a stupid amount of money. Your estimates are way off and your list really makes no sense. The parts prices and estimates of the sr are way off as well. Seriously, a stock t25 but you get 550cc injectors, new exhaust manifold, and , an aftermarket intake manifold?

How long are the stock ka engines known to be good for? If I never plan to go insane with the hp, would it possibly be cheaper to just turbo the ka or should I go for the sr20 swap anyways?

It's always under high debate, from what I understand. the ka is better suited out of the box for boosting as in comparison psi to psi of boost. The ka takes it via displacement. HOWEVER, a must are rod upgrades due to the longer stroke, you need to watch out for moderate boosting and high rpm's w/o a connecting rod swap. You can check out a quick vid of a supposed stock internal ka running at 14psi only an exhaust, header, CAI, and cam work was done. So stock internals runnin' 334 horse, 279 tq...

it's all a matter of ones opinion there are definately benefits on both sides of the motor story, just my 2 cents.

A KA24E Turboed at 7PSI with stock ECU and fuel injectors was running 230HP Dynoed.

Im sure if you bought a chipped ECU, new fuel rail, injectors, fuel pump, headers, exhaust, you'd be pushing over 250HP.

ka-t.org DOHC for dummies thread.http://www.ka-t.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6263

Read this. There's the full list of what you'd need for which power build for a ka.

SR wise.... idk. I've gone KA-T!!
