When you are a part of a community as large as this you have to learn to accept that a question or post that you have seen a million times may have never been seen by others. If searchable, then politely tell them so or ignore it if it really makes you that annoyed. It is not the noob questions or accidental posts that clutter this site but the persistent whining that follows from some members.

I am a KAT guy. I live in the KAT forum for about 80% of my NICO time...I wonder around and look for threads I'd enjoy reading. Usually the tech stuff and anything forced induction related. The rest isn't my thing, so I don't read to much of it.

If you go to KAT you can ask almost any question. Just so long as I can read it and understand what you're saying. I don't allow flaming and noob bashing. At worst I'll link you to the sticky, which has a ton of great info.

This isn't to say that some people don't need to have their teeth kicked in. Because they do. Sometimes people are trying to get attention, or they're being willfully stupid. I have no tolerance for that. But I don't assault them verbally. I tell them to rethink everything and post it again later after they've had time to think and read. Then I lock/move whatever thread. I'm human though, sometimes I say things I shouldn't. Sometimes I drink and type...etc. But for the most part, I try not to be a total prick. It's a choice...

One of the reasons that the forums seem to be in decline is because of today's youth and the accepted forms of communication. No grammar, misspelled words and generally awful sentence structure will never lead to good communication.

What people fail to realize is that this is the Internet, there is no emotion. So all we have to go on is what you type. If I were to judge a persons character by what they type, I'd brand 60% maybe 65% of NICO as barely functioning members of society.

If you can't be bothered to take the time to capitalize the first word in the sentence, use some form of .?! whatever at the end and at least try to spell the words right, why should we even take the time to answer your question?

If English isn't your spoken language, then say so FFS. I'm not a damned mind reader. I have to assume that people in CA can't speak English these days...because most don't

Here's the deal...

The forums are yours. 98% of the posts and threads are from and by members. Grow up and police yourself like adults. If you see things getting out of hand, step up and do something. Sitting back and flaming or piling on so the trolls have more ammo isn't something we as Mods can stop. It's a choice...you either choose to be a poopyhead, or you choose not to be. It's really that simple.

I'll have a few hours today...I'll browse and post and try to clear some things up. But the majority of change has to be from the members.

To follow on what WD said about trolls: I watch for trolling, and I usually lock threads down if the trolling has gotten too far out of hand. By that point, there's nothing more that can be added to a thread that would be constructive and it would only be a back and forth of flaming. However, there are times when you can catch it early enough or the trolls didn't take a huge bite of the thread that it can be cleaned up.

Also, there are people who cruise for certain threads to go and be /b/ on the thread. This is an unfortunate side affect from certain websites getting too popular and the general mean attitudes from those sites bleeds over into our site.

Lastly, there are a lot of people who can't seem to use Google or our search function. Our search isn't that hard to use. Input keyword; select forum to search within, or make a general search of the entire boards; click search; ???; profit. Or you can go Google your question and generally you can find the answer on awesome off-site places or it'll return one of our threads here on NICO. I can't tell you how many times a week I used to see "How do I upgrade my brakes to 300ZX?", "How do I install an SR20DET?", or "Please give a complete list of parts I need to install an SR." There are a lot of repetitive questions posted on NICO that could have been answered with a simple look in a FAQ sticky or a search.

Now I'll give you that the 240 Gen Chat FAQ is crap. I'm going to give it a re-write like I did to the RWD SR FAQ. It'll be a while before I get around to it, but hopefully it'll be more useful than the current version.

As for your comment as to how members with higher post counts can break rules, Redstar. That's not exactly how things work. If I see a blatant disregard for the TOS, I have no problems locking, temp banning a member. I usually avoid banning because I feel that it doesn't send the proper message, but there are some people who need it to get the point across. As for your situation, you have posted up several threads in the past that our general populace don't seem to like. So, you're going to have people hound your threads and troll them. Either you move on and ignore them, you keep doing what you're doing and fight back (which leads to threads being locked), or you take the Nala route and use it to your advantage.

And sometimes, when things get real bad, you just have to apply your lessons learned, and make a new account.

Seriously WTF does that even mean? Why don't you just start over and re-type the whole sentence in some sort of coherent manner? Is English your first language? If not, tell us what is so we have a better idea of what you are trying to say (many of us mods are Bi-lingual).

I love how besides the Mods in this thread, im the only one that's been on NICO the longest.

If i was a Mod, i'd be the one to lock a thread the second it was posted. I wouldnt even say a word about it. Eventually people will learn

No I shouldn't have to make a new account because some members don't like what my post are about. I was flammed for posting in the wrong thread and it didn't stop when I put the post in the right thread. There's no pleasing some people in this world.

The moderators are controlled by the members that think a post isn't cool or is not their's. My bad I was hella tired

Ok that's still wrong but now its at least readable. Not to mention its completely un-true.

FYI, people don't mind the occasional typo or grammatical error, but when a post is absolutely riddled with them, people often give up on trying to read and revert to flaming.

I fixed your sig for you.

No it doesn't matter if the spelling or grammar is perfect they will still read it and flame away. And what was wrong with my sig, you didn't fix it you removed it

The image was effing huge... it was 1100+ pixels in one direction.

I removed the image, thereby fixing your sig.

You have to learn that there are many things that people will flame you over.

One is spelling/grammar. Use the NICO spell check option, its located directly above the text box during a reply, to the right of the "preview post" button.

Another is if you make a thread that has been made a ton of times, and blatantly did not search before you did, or lying about it and saying you did search. I have seen this MANY times, and often times a duplicate thread will be on the very FIRST page of that forum.

Also, if a thread is in the wrong section, you might catch a few flames, but it shouldn't be as bad as the other scenarios listed here. Tell a mod what's up and have them move it for you. Don't do this every day, people will get tired of it, and so will the moderators.

Finally if you make an absolutely retarded thread, you are bound to get flamed. Lets say you make a thread that says "yo dawg my whip done got slayed by dat 'ho... whachall think might be da dillio?". Not only is riddled with gangster slang, but there is nowhere near enough information to give any sort of non-flaming response. Make sure you give plenty of details and coherently display what you are actually asking.

Edit: New one:If you make a post where you are clearly in the wrong and feel like people should sympathize with you. Like if you blatantly break the law and end up complaining about the end result. Or if you a bragging about driving like an a$$.

I've used the spell check before and it tells me the same spelling for a word that I know doesn't look right. Same with the "search engine", I search for what am gonna post and it says no results found. As for my sig there's been others with just as big if not more pixels or size pics. I had that sig on for at least 2 or 3 days and it wasn't a problem to other mods. It's so hard to please the unpleasable I guess.

I drink all the time and my spelling is always the suck. I use google toolbar...lets you spellcheck everything and translates all foreign languages as a bonus.

Just a tip.

Point being...relax. Life happens, chill the F out and take nothing seriously. The path to enlightenment lies before you. It's all in the choices you make everyday.

Judging by what I've seen you post, you are better off trusting the spell check, even if you think its wrong. If you find a word that you know is right and spell check flags it, let us know and we might be able to change it. If you don't want to do that, get Firefox, it has built in real time spell checker.

Perhaps the search doesn't work for you because you aren't spelling things correctly, or aren't typing in the right thing to search for, or aren't using the correct search criteria (searching post titles only, or thread bodies, etc). I can't recall ever having a problem with our search function. Don't like it? Try google. It will often bring you back here as well.

Had that sig for a whole 2 or 3 days huh? That really isn't a long time at all. I'm not at all surprised nobody else caught it, considering you don't have many posts at all, and most mods in 240 gen are more concerned with keeping the place from destroying itself rather than editing sigs... not to mention not all mods have the ability to edit sigs. But there is an outcry for moderation of this forum... so that is what is happening.

Well, maybe NICO just isnt for you. I have NEVER had a problem with NICO. however, i have been a member for 4 years and have been driving these cars for just as long. Its not like NICO is MAKING you be on here. Dont like it, go elsewhere?

It's a catch-22 with mods getting the brunt of the complaints. Let things go and people get butt hurt, complain and leave. Show of force in imposing the rules and people get butt hurt, complain and leave.

The problem with 240sx Gen? If you are not an OG you usually have a 16yo mentality, think you know it all or are out to be cool (loose generalization). Get over it, life happens. In real life, others really could not give a damn about you or your opinion. At least on NICO we do care to a point as we want the forums to grow.

Same 'ole sh1t, different day.

Tell that to a cop the next time you are pulled over and see how it floats...

I think Nico needs a Grammar Patrol. I set of mods who patrol the forums and fix grammar. I think that would be awesome.

Not really an English teacher persay, but really some people on this forum that actually have good grammar. There are quite a few grammar whores on this forum that would be pretty helpful grammar wise. It's a pretty good suggestion, but it probably wouldn't be accepted. I don't think the admins want mods going around changing members text around.

Simply use Fire Fox which will tell you when you have a screw up. The base NICO spell check works OK too, but not automated.
