Hi All,

I installed a JVC HU in my 2012 Rogue. I got the steering wheel controls, backup camera, navigation, all working fine. My only problem is there's like .5" gaps on either side of the new stereo in dash. I used a Metra Dash kit 99-7613. It is really not looking good frankly it looks so ugly. I'm so disappointed. I soldered all wires and spliced into wires that didn't come in the harness. I spent so much time in installing this properly only to find this disappointment.
Has anyone run into this issue? How can I fix this? I don't want to put back my stock stereo even though my new stereo functions are awesome.

Edit: Here's a Pic

Ok, so you skipped step #1: Check the fit BEFORE installing. Well let's start with the JVC HU, as in which one? Is it a single or double unit? Are you seriously saying there's a full half inch gap on both sides? Most people have a much narrower gap that's easily covered with strip trim moulding.

How about trying Metra kit 95-7417

I installed JVC KW-NT30HD. When I checked on Crutchfield couple of months ago it said it fits my car. Now it's not available on Crutchfield. It is a double-din unit so I thought it is the standard on all models. Isn't double din a standard size?Image

wooow! THAT IS A BAD KIT YOU GOT THERE. YOU NEED TO SEND IT BACK, OR TRY A NEW ONE. IT OBVIOUSLY WAS CUT WRONG FROM THE FACTORY. THIS IS NOT YOUR FAULT, NOR THE HEAD UNITS. DOUBLE DIN - IS DOUBLE DIN. LOL

Take a look at the sides of the kit i posted below, compare THE WIDTH of the side pieces, to yours!

There are several different bezel kits listed as compatible for ROGUE, but I believe my previous post shows the bezel kit you need.

ImStricken, Which year Rogue is that pic you posted from? 2011 or 12? I have a feeling '12 dash has a bigger opening.

Rogue One, I think the one you posted is for Rogues before 2011, since after '11 the dash is one piece all the way to the stereo.

With chrome molding on the bottom it looks like original from 2012 model without aftermarket dash kit. Did you have originally navy system in the car or was it a regular stereo? I wonder if dash is different from trim to trim model in 2012?

Riiight. But in your pic one piece dash works fine on aftermarket unit so how come his dash doesn't work with it? He said it's '12 Rogue so I guess he used original dash that came with the car? I assume there's gotta be add-on frame included with headunit to cover the gaps in order to install it correctly so the dash should be fine.

I had non-nav stereo. Everything's original except for the JVC. I think the Dash opening is bigger in the 2012 from 2011. If I can confirm that from Nissan that'll be great.

Yes, I used Metra 99-7613 (or that was what it was supposed to be.) I meant the Dash is original I didn't change anything on that. I'm going to go to a local stereo installed today to see if he has another dash kit that'll fit mine.

Sorry, but it looks funny...I am sure the professional shop will find a proper frame and solve the problem.

Actually, I did use the trim plate that came with the dash kit. You could see it around the HU faceplate. It is very small. I sure as hell did use the trim plate that came with the kit.
This is not the first time I'm installing an In-dash Nav stereo. I've done two more before and I'm not an amateur. I wouldn't even attempt to install a complicated setup like the one I did if I didn't know what I was doing. My only problem was that getting correct information about 2012 Rogue was very hard. Most of the info was for 2011, because of that I may have made a mistake in assuming all the dash openings are the same size.

again, you didnt use a full dash kit. you reinstalled the original dash bezel, when it should have been replaced with something that will cover more area and give it the standard double-din cutout.

the stock bezel's are often different sizes, shapes, roundness, etc.
for example: 2008 rogue. the radio is the shape of the bezel. its a double din - but its contoured to fit the dashboard. to place a double din into that area, you need a whole new bezel to fit the contour the radio used too, and then create the standard box shaped to fit aftermarket double din headunit.

the same goes for GM cars that are 1.5din and often ROUND shaped:
Image
SO HOW TO YOU INSTALL A STANDARD SQUARE DIN OR DDIN HEAD UNIT INTO A HOLE THATS ROUNDED IN THE CORNERS? == DASH KIT!!! it will create the rounded edges for the original size, and then square the inside up for the new aftermarket headunit.

unless im blind, i cant find any dash kits that will work for the 2012 that has the radio bezel & the air-vents as one after market piece.
what i suggest for you, and this is the easiest = buy the air-vents from the 2008ish rogue, and get this aftermarket dash kit:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/07-10-NISSAN-RO ... 4f&vxp=mtr
(just make sure you dont have a center speaker on your rogue)

OR JUST GO BUY THE DASH KIT FROM THE DEALER FOR $50-$60

YELLOW = STOCK RADIO
RED = DOUBLE DIN AFTERMARKET
LIGHT GRAY = RUBBERY DASHBOARD
DARK GRAY = WHERE THE AIR-VENTS BEZEL IS SUPPOSED TO GO.

Image
if i took out the stock radio(yellow) form my 2008, i cant just expect to put in a double-din(red) and expect it all to fit in. i would need a dash kit that will go into the place of where the yellow isnt covered by the red(double-din radio). does this make sense?

so you need to find a dash kit that will give you the exact dimensions of a double din. dont expect the old radio's to always be single, or double din perfect. many original radio's are so odd-shaped and not even close to double or single din.

I don't know about the brackets on 11-12 but I thought that model don't need any aftermarket dash at all because there's NONE for sale (at least yet). If that's the case when you have to "downgrade" the dash by getting new vents from 08-10 model and dash let's say from metra then I wouldn't even do it. I do prefer single piece dash like in newer rogues.

DoomLord. Is this the kit you got? http://www.crutchfield.com/p_142NN1670B ... ml?tp=3121 I can find only that kit for 2011-12 models so it sounds to me like either that kit didn't click in the right spot of your dash or it was fabricated the wrong way. Try to look if your dash fits that kit first by removing the whole unit. Then we can see if you have to cut some plastic on sides to modify it the right way.

HE'S USING THE STOCK BEZEL. somehow the stock bezel uses a double din radio thats wider than the standard double din.
i want him to take a picture of the whole dash of his. i want to see how much room is left on the stock bezel and the edge of the area designed for the trim/bezel.

i had this same problem with my maxima
the 2002/2003 nissan maxima had this same issue. you had to buy the kit WITH the vents too.
Image

because the stock radio was a double din - but the molding on the face of the radio made a hole to big in the dash
to nicely fit an aftermarket double din radio

So that is the problem. All he need is those brackets and keep original bezel then. That's all.

Head units generally come in either single DIN (180 x 50 mm panel) or double DIN (180 x 100 mm panel) size.
The US standard for a DIN radio is 2" x 7" and the Double DIN sized radio is a 4" x 7"

OP measure you hole in the stock bezel please

and your sure you used the right trim that came with the kit?
see black trim around radio

That's what I said I think? The front bezel is going to be the same since it works for aftermarket radios as well but rear brackets are different. Check out the link above from crutchfield. They offer scosche kit for 11-12 models but its rear brackets only. So that means you keep original bezel to keep original look. Heck! I might even get '11 bezel for mine then. http://www.scosche.com/car-audio/product/2229

yes after further inspection, it looks like the sides are thick enough to cover the given area that is now in question
