Hi, everyone! New to the forum and recently helped my fiance purchase a 2011 M56x with just 36k miles (got a great deal - paid below KBB, also got the dealership to put 4 new tires on the car, new rotors and a new battery).

Few questions - what gearing does this car have at stock? I'm mostly just curious and cannot seem to find the info anywhere
Any worthwhile engine mods? I know stillen makes a pretty nice sounding exhaust for it, but I can't seem to find much else... like, not even much in the way of tunes or CAIs. I've heard that these are pretty choked from the factory and that a simple exhaust mod will add a good chunk of horsepower/torque, any truth to this? Are there any active exhausts available?
Any good exterior/interior mods? Again, cannot seem to find much here either.
Besides the timing belt/chain recall, is there anything else to watch out for?
Thanks!
Welcome to the forum! I bought my '12 M56x back in Sept 2015. Came off of a three year lease. 52k miles, all stock. Just a few suggestions from my experience with this model.
1. Yes there is a transmission update:
https://x.infinitihelp.com/forum/showth ... 4131c& but it's not free, probably around $130
2. Like previously mentioned, not many mods for the V8. I recommend a custom exhaust vs a bolt on like Stillen. Yes the stock exhaust is the same as the 3.7, too chocked for me. I removed everything from the manifolds back and replaced it with a 2-1/2" X-pipe and sport mufflers. As far as the intake, I went with AEM dryflow performance air filters, and kept the stock airboxes. I did drill a series of holes in the sides of the filter boxes, to promote better airflow, like CAI, but still maintain the ram air set up.
3. The V8, being a DI engine, does use oil via excess blowby through the PCV valves. You will need to check it about halfway through your oil change. I did install PCV catch cans to catch the excess, but I still use about 1-1/2 quart every 5k miles.
4. Tuning options are Uprev, Ecutek, and a few folks have used the plug and play style like the Bullydog GT. I went with Uprev once I did my mods. This car runs rich from the factory. The tune will lean it out, as well as timing advance, transmission line pressure adjustment, speed limiters adjustment, etc, all of which will make your car run a lot better and gain MPG.
5.Yes on the timing chain recall, the dealer will run your VIN to see if it's been done. Loaner will be provided, takes a few days or so.
