Nah I agree with you, I also have a truck I've been restoring for the last several years as well...lots of power n torque for playing off road, but the 8-9 miles to the gallon and 10 if I'm lucky, just isn't very appealing. We have a car to people ratio of 2:1 and you'll see right around April-May you'll see cars with low body kits or lowered cars, old muscle cars, tons of vettes and everything else RWD come out of hibernation up until Aug-Sept when they all go back in the garage.
I wanted something quick, better than 10mpg, slick looking, I can drive all year round, something I could mod if I wanted as well. Another problem is folks up here think all-wheel or 4x4 = I can go as fast as I want on ice and snow and not have to worry. I've had vehicles of all sorts, but nothing beats a FWD on ice...as long as you have the right set of studded tires. I won't go under 18" rims on this car either because of how bad the roads frost heave n Jack.
I've had my Altima for 2 years now, I've never had a problem on the roads even when we get a flash dump of 18" of powder in just a couple hours and I've never been stuck yet (knock on wood). Just really happy with how it handles all year round and my warranty is about ready to burn up anyhow, so naturally I'm looking around to see what my options are. Supposedly there is someone in my hometown the builds his own, but his stuff is so expensive regardless of how mouth-watering it is. I don't need anything that will peel your face off, because I still need clearance off the road as well and doing anything in excess would probably ruin my day.
