1jz Powered s14

V8 240sx? Sure! If either the chassis OR the engine is non-Nissan (i.e. SR20 in an RX-7 or LS1 in a 240sx), we've done it.

Sup Everyone, I wanted to take the time to start this post on the growing popularity of the JZ Engine Swaps. I want this post to be an informative and resourceful one, to help those considering doing the JZ Swap into their car. This is not a debate on RB vs. SR vs. 1J or staying faithful to Nissan, etc. Thoughts on whether to go 1j or 2j are welcomed. I decided to go with the 1j in my '95 240sx, after my Bro did his swap and got great performance from his '96 240sx. He put a single turbo and hit 400rwhp without breaking a sweat (an everyday driver and good gas mileage). His ride link is:

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2260807

...if you want to hear how it sounds with at Super Dragger:

I will post pics as my project goes along and I will include info on pricing, locations, websites, etc. on the JZ Engine swap.

I ask that anyone who has done this type of swap before, to include their thoughts, pics of car, pros and cons and info. to help anyone interested on doing this swap.

My 1J'ed 240 project started about 2 months ago, with my bro and I talking about the pros and cons on doing this swap. At the time I had a '92 s13 coupe and was going to do it, but then decided to go with the '95 s14 when an opportunity came up to buy one at only $1600 (later sold the transmission for $100). The interior is in great condition.

The KA was bad and screaming to put it out of its misery, so I did.

I put a deposit on my 1j (looks like it's on Layaway, )...

and after I was able to go full speed with the project, I got my engine

...and had the guys start the work!

...and the Master Power Turbo! Built to start spooling at around 3k rpms and open wide at around 4500 rpms.

This is where the project is at now and I will post more as it progresses.

Great project man. I look forward to keeping an eye on all the updates you post. Make sure you get lots of pics of the entire install process and things like the mounts etc.

How hard was it to get that 1jz in there? custom mounts? drive shaft? crossmember?

Yes to all of the above I imagine. Most hybrid swaps will require those basic things. But it's no bigger then any of the RB's, by much anyway, so it's a good candidate for a swap.

How about some updates?

the crossmember has to modified. the final position of the mounting location should be 1.5" forward and 1.5" down from the stock location of the s-chasis mounts.

the mounts/insulators themselves do not have to be modified (i would suggest getting some MKIV 1994 engine mounts - bulkier and have an outer shell which seems more rigid and protects the poly-urethane).

also for the swap i am assuming youre using the trans provided, 5-speed? how are they going about extending the shifter, if at all?

any more updates or information? thanks

if that is directed toward me...if getting a 1jz: buy a front clip (i would recommend getting a clip so you have a ton of the misc. stuff), but just my 2 cents. the clip was 2600 shipped and i sold some of the un needed pieces for about 600 bucks, so its pretty good deal.

if getting a 2jz, go with a JDM aristo swap (front sump oil pan & easier to find) with an r154 trans (you will then need a 1jz bellhousing to bolt to the 2jz as well as a 1jz flywheel and MKIII type clutch). but if you can find a USDM dropout (best of the three) it will cost you due to the transmissions...again swap it out if you would like and get the r154 5-speed.

you can do the above by buying an 2jz auto dropout then sourcing a r154 trans and such...

if you are looking solely for an engine set, you can go to RND Factory, JHot, Driftmotion, and others online. there are a decent amount of dealers, but be sure to do your homework on each of them...

RND Factory usually has at least one clip laying around...

Thanks for the postings. The car is up and running, just working on getting some more money to get the Super Drager exhaust, suspension, rims and the JDM Navan full aero kit. It should all be done by August, but I should have some numbers and drag times by this month.

As for how the engine work was done:

No mod to the crossmember just custom brackets. Position is as low and as far back as possible for "Low-center-of-gravity" sake. Old 7m engine mount were used. They are sturdier than the MKiv are.As far as transmission mods..... NONE! If you get a Chaser 1jz swap no modification is needed, it comes with front oil sump and extended shifter like the soarer.

very nice. yeah i want to try and find the OEM chaser linkage and shifter cover (but very hard to find separate) - if you know where they can be had for a good price and not too long of a wait, i'd be interested, heck even a part number...

i got the clip from RND Factory...decent guys.

We'll, like always, things are going slower than I want because of funds. The car is 70% done. I made a short video of the car running, for a friend to see how the set up is coming along. It has no exhaust and piping, but I just won a bid on Ebay for a HKS Super Drager and as soon as I get it, it's going in! Then all that's left is the suspension, boost control, wheels and tires; I'll rest my pockets for a couple of months (2-3) and then get the kit installed and the car painted. Here is the video:http://videos.streetfire.net/s...d.htm

I decided to put 550cc injectors and turn up the boost. I should hit 500+, but will stay at low 400's for low boost and high 400's for high boost. And of course, nice meaty tires 275/18/35 at the rear for hooking all that power in a light car!

More updates to come...

550cc injectors? you may want to invest in something that can dump some more fuel

And just why should he get larger than 550cc injectors? He is aiming for high 400's hp... 550cc injectors on a 6 cylinder are good untill 500-550hp at 85% duty cycle. Going larger would accomplish nothing, other than increasing the possibility of poor idle issues.

Yup, that's as far as I'm going for a daily driver! 400 something low and 500 high boost. I'm already going to have traction issues on just 400 rwhp and I'm expected to do mid to high 11's in the 1/4 pass (on street radials), so I think that's more than enough for work, daily driving and play!

Note: If you wanted to, the 1j can be taken to even higher hp.

Don't even think about it Dre, I got LoJack on that Super Drager!!! Sorry Ali; but since you're a friend of my boy Dre and you really want a Super Drager for your project 240, I'll check Ebay and other sites from time to time and will give you a holla when another one comes up . When are you starting your 1j 240 project?

That exhaust is impossible to find. I've called racelab and other places and nothing!

I think i'll be going with the buddyclub spec 2 if I don't find a superdragger.
