looks pretty. But hey, did you have to clip anything off or do any custom fabrication of some sort? And what tools did you use? Did you use any instructions given online?

so i'm guessing your are talking about the sr?

Thats just the engine, the KA weighs 500 with the transmission. SR is even lighter with transmission.

217 Kg = 478 lbs + transmission (if that figure is even accurate, website looks pretty credible)

you're probably right...the guy who gave me the link said the weight was long block, so I assumed transmission too. Perhaps the link does not mean this? Anyways, the transmission sits in the middle so the only thing to worry would be engine vs engine weight...

True true.

Dont get me wrong, i'm a HUGE fan of the 1jz. My dream ride (or at least one of my many :D ) is a VIP style Toyota cressida with single turbo 1jz under the hood.

Hell yeah...imagine that cressida pimp mobile...Total sleeper...

So many cheap ones in my area too. Would be a hell of a project car.

I tried to buy one last winter, guy wouldn't back down from $2500 on a 91 with 178,000 miles on it and a crapload of NYC-induced dents and scratches :rolleyes

it should beat rb25 by a long shot...

that is if you do stuff yourself, and know how to shop around.

it has the 6spd transmission in it though...the transmission and engine alone cost me 5500...finding the 6spd with the twinturbo is kinda tough these days.

the 1jz is a better engine than the rb25 if you want big power. i think nissans rb26 is about as much power as i could ever dream of(that and i am quite happy with my little sr). the 1jz does not have the crappy head, exhaust manifold, or valvetrain that plagues the rb25. all said and done, i would not pay one red cent for a 1jz with intentions of putting in my s13. i am all nissan all the time. hope the project goes well though. nice pics. i may have some questions for some of you guys soon. a friend of mine is ordering a 1jz for his mk II supra. i told him he could drop it off at my house with the clip and a truckload of money and ill do the swap for him.

the accursed J-engines. They are my wolfsbane, I have never, seriously never beaten a JZ-powered car. The best I did was hang with a 1JZ with one of my R30s but I blew the head gasket in the process

Geesh, where were was everyone when I was talking about this swap last year? :P

Anyway, this may not be my place but, props to everyone being supportive of these pioneers. It's nice to see people showing that it can and has been done instead of the usual "anything is possible with enough money" response. I can't really think of anything to productive to say other than I'm happy this topic is being discussed seriously and with a high level of maturity. I was kind of scared when I first saw how far this thread had gotten.

where i'm from (Thailand), 1jz and 2jz are very common and cheap swaps ($2500, including the labor, i'm not kidding). MOST RWD car there either have, Rb or the J series engine.

I met this guy in Thailand this past christmas w/ a 2jz powered 200sx (240) dynoed at 780ps, daily driven. The car's freaking sick.Cefiros are very popular in thailand too, you can usually pick one up for less than 5k and put another 2500 into it to have 2j or Rb26 put in them.

A touch off-topic but,

I have taken to affectionately calling the KA in my 240 the "Iron Pig". All the same I have a certain love for the thing (I have respect for any engine that at least starts every day without fail).

Are you sure you're not talking about YOUR SR and NOT the RB25?. I don't see any SR's making nearly 600RWHP with completely stock heads now do you? Exhaust manifold? what about it?
