I am attempting to put my transmission back in. I tried the 180 / upside down position but the clutch fork hits the side of driver's side hump. It feels like the shaft is about an inch below the center of the clutch disk.

Did you try putting the trans into gear to get it to slide in easier?

Try supporting the transmission evenly when you slide it in along with putting it in gear.

There are literally hundreds of tips if you search for em.

The tips said something about lifting the trans into place upside down. I tried this and the clutch fork hits the upper left side of transmission hump. putting it in gear won't change the position of fork.

Starter hump on bellhousing pointing down, then rotate it into position.

Get a jack and a a plank of wood, loosen your motor mounts a bit and jack the motor up from the oil pan SLOWLY (disclaimer: you can screw up if you forget to loosen the motor mounts or jack it up too high) so that the rear of the motor is aimed down a bit... that should make it a little easier.

The best advice I can give you in the end is: it seems impossible now, but once you get it in there once you'll be able to do it again without struggle.

I was able to get it in last night. Took it for a test drive and the transmission won't go into 5 th so I guess it will be easy the next time. Thanks for your info.

lame luck....

It sounds like a synchro issue... how was the condition of the transmission before removing?

Here are some similar issue threads I pulled up..
