Sorry to ask this question...I have been out of the Silvia/240sx scene for over 10 years. I actually have two questions. One is retarded, again due to being out of the loop and the other one, well I think I used all known available options to ask my question.

Question #1 What the hell is "56 Killa?" Just curious. I keep seeing it from time to time on different sites trying to research info.

Question #2 I have 91 240SX standard coupe with KA24DE and auto transmission. It is all stock. I bought it and slowly plan on getting it fixed then start modding it. How can I tell the rear diff type? I looked online, searched the ga-zillion Nissan forums, asked the local tuners and couldnot find anything. I called the dealership and gave them the VIN and they gave me some BS where they could tell if I brought it in to them. I did not see a yellow tag or sticker on the rear nor can I find any model tags. I need the info so I can get the correct output seal...it is leaking. The previous owners did not take care of this rough jem at all. While at AutoZone when trying to get the correct seal, 3 different options come up. Your help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks guys and gals.

As far a the diff goes, its an r 200 open end diff (unless you have hicas or a canadian emission vehicle which is most likely not the case) it sound like the guy at the part store didn't realize they were just from different campanies because there should only be one seal option. They are even the same part from left to right

Just because its not HICAS or canadian, does not mean he has an open diff. AFAIK the VLSD was always available as an option, but IIRC it only came paired with ABS. Why, I do not know, but you could get ABS, or ABS and LSD, but not just LSD.

A long time ago someone posted a decoder for the VIN/option # decoder that decoded the number imprinted on the firewall VIN plate. This number listed all the things the car was optioned with when it left the factory. Let me see if I can find it.

Just VERY rare that a coupe in the US would have LSD from the factory though, I've only seen one in person and it was a SOHC.

Indeed, but it does happen.

That why I said most likely not the case. Too many people say ”oh I can leave 2 black marks on the ground...I got possy” . Shoot I could do that with my open end and automatic, lol. I dont even think it makes a difference if its open end or vlsd for the seals because the o.d. Of the output shafts for both are the same and the housing is still a r200.

The reason is that the ABS system uses the diff to measure wheel slip at one point in the rear instead of two. Otherwise, Nissan would have just shoved two wheel sensors at the hubs instead of the one at the diff input.

^possibly, but NA 300ZX's (which use the R200) have 4 channel ABS even with the LSD :gotme

All the output seals are the same for R200 diff cases, LSD or not.
