37522 is a carrier bearing, and it's supposed to absorb vibration and noise as far as I know. If you try to turn 37522, you can tell there's some cushion kinda thing inside. I think most noise is coming from u-joints on both ends on aluminum shaft. I don't know how to explain it, but I suspect that their angle is larger than OEM driveshaft, maybe???

Figured I'd bump this, and show my new driveshaft from from Shaftmasters. It's an aluminum one, and fit pretty good once I got rid of that dust shield. Going to have to make another one I guess...

Can't we put in output shaft boot like things on the drive shaft for dust protection? Or is it too fast? (4 times more rotation)

good write up 94. On shaftmaster's website it says no mods necessary, so there is no way to get that dust shield to mate up with the new shaft? I have an s13

Wow. I didn't know about shaft master. I'm going to have to order from them. That is pretty much the price point I was after!

No, s13 stock dust shield is too small, so you can't mate it up with an aluminum shaft. You will have to remove dust cover. I used s14 dust shield to fabricate one. It's going to be hard to fabricate s13 dust cover. My recommendation is remove the dust cover or find s14 dust cover and fabricate like I did.

i got and installed 1 hardly noticed any ny diferance in tq as it quoted in the add but it is alot lighter so i guess it should increece gas millage a little if that maters to us hard drivers anyways. but if ur going to get one 9 times out of 10 its going to be an in to long so u r going to probably have to cut a bit off of the rear trany seal dust cover and either a. lower the trans by removing the crossmember or b. loosening the diff bolts and nuts to drop the diff nose a little. and after its all done you might hear a vibration noise on the decelaration. relax its just the yoke rubing the dust cap. it shouldnt be removed unless u want to have to replace the seal every six months hence the name dust cap.

Recieved and installed my Shaftmasters.com driveshaft last night. haven't even started the car yet, so no driving experience though.

A+ for shaftmasters! Showed up a day early with a free t-shirt. Unfortunately they forgot to throw in a "Shaftmaster" decal, too bad.

I know why you bolted the bearing holder is in place but I wonder if it would be strong enough considering all of the driveshaft loops I've seen on and off of race cars were much more heavy duty, there must be a reason for them being made that way..

Considering I've worked on, in and around a handfull of race cars, I would not trust the bearing holder to perform the same as a real driveshaft loop.

The location is a nice one for a driveshaft loop since it has bolt-up points already made into the body.

This is something to think about.

I agree, it's not exactly heavy duty. But then again, I am only putting 125HP to the wheels, so I feel safe.

If I was putting down more power I would beefen up the bearing holder or replace it with a true safety strap system.

Has anyone encountered a vibration/noise under full vaccuum in 4th gear (between 2000 and 3000 rpm)?I've got an ebay shaft and its annoying as hell. I've been emailing with David at SM and he hasn't had any complaints of that nature.

Cuz he balaces his? I had talked to him before I bought mine from Shaftmaster. David said he would definitely exchange it if there's any vibration issue.

ok this is a LITTLE off topic, and im bringing back an old thread, but where can i get a dust cover for the driveshaft? I dont have one on my car right now because it wouldn't fit with the driveshaft. (non abs car w/ abs driveshaft...it works but eBay screwed me that time)..

i'll probably get flamed for this but, its probably a pretty important thing to have right?

NOPE RIGHT THREAD LOL

I don't think anyone offers one for the aftermarket 1 piece driveshaft. OEM dust cover won't fit like you said. You have to fabricate just like I did. s14 dust cover is easier to fabricate than s13's.

If you want to buy s14 dust cover, it's $22.20 from Courtesy.http://www.courtesyparts.com/3....html

i dont have a 1 piece driveshaft, i was just wondering if any other places sold them besides the dealership. I'll probably have to get someone to fab me up one later on if i go one piece as im not a fabricator.

but running without = HUGE no no correct?

I purchased one from ShaftMasters for my 5speed swap. With shipping, it came out to $239. They provide great service and a free T-shirt. Out of the box it looked solid and heavy duty. Its perfectly balanced and its a better deal than a used unit. I've had it for 9.000 miles on a S14, and it still looks stunner underneath the car.

Highly recommended. You have to change the drive shaft, so do it right the first time.

I would say it depends on where you live. It prevents dust, so if it gets bad, you can simply drop the driveshaft and replace rear seal on the transmission. It's not that big of deal to replace it. It's not 100% required, but it's better to have.
