so as the title says, a buddy of mine convinced me that i should get a 240 project car. after some searching we came a across a pretty good deal. Decided i would go ahead and share with you guys:89 240SX hatch, DOHC swap, auto to manual, aem intake, cut front springs and some aftermarket rear (which has to go; ride sucks and way to low ), no cat or cat back (but on order ) oh and i gotta rub it in, PERFECT DASH; just scroll down and you'll see

pretty straight body

KA24DE, a possible future KA-T if motor passes compression test, etc., if not SR20?

random shot

hatch needs paint

what no cracks on dash?

thats right, no cracks on dash

picked it up for 2K. idled kinda weird, accelerated weird some times. new 300ZX fuel filter and lines, and a new o2 sensor did the trick. idles and accelerates like a champ now. will prob get a new fuel pump soon for it. oh and 2.5 hours driving back with open downpipe exhaust was the first thing i ordered. feel free to leave comments and all, just dont flame

Looks like the perfect start to a project, its clean.

I must disagree on the too low comment though, as you will surely here from every kid here, "slam that ish". Hahahaha, just kidding. Get yourself some properly fitting wheels, and some real suspension, and you will be set.

i totally agree man. im searching for some coils now, but if i cant find a deal ill go for a shock/spring combo. yeah yeah i know, save for coils, but i hate this suspension so much that if i cant find a deal on coils im getting shocks/springs. as for the whole rim thing, ill rock the tear drops until i find a deal on rims

Wheels man! Rims are for bikes!

As Ian stated though, it looks really clean. Once you get the suspension sorted out I say give the engine bay a nice thorough cleaning as well as check for leaks. From that engine bay pic it looks like your front main seal is leaking.

Looks good though. Great starter for a project car.

the guy i bought it from says he did all new gaskets when he did the swap. e.g. valve cover, intake mani, head, etc. he said he started pressure washing it to clean off the build up and the pressure washer broke. but im gonna clean it soon to make sure that it really isnt leaking. so i see that ur running KA-T, i think i might be going that route. whats ur set up like?

Plz don't waste time and money on a spring/strut setup. Just wait about a month and religously browse the Vendor's sections here and at Zilvia. I'll bet good money that vendors will be slashing prices like crazy on things like coilovers and other suspension stuff around the major holidays.

You might even be able to grab some brand new Stance coils for under a G, some PBM's for maybe ~$900, Megan ~$800. Megan is as low on the quality/cost scale as I would consider though. I would avoid K-Sport and Godspeed.

Ouch....lol

My opinion is, unless you're going to track the car OFTEN, don't get coilovers. I mean yeah, if you just want the "look" whatever, but coilovers SUCK for daily driving. It gets old quick, especially if it's your only car. Way too rough. But you can take turns as fast as you possibly want! Still not worth it though imo.

some coils ride very naturally on the softest setting.

Precisely. This way, I can tell you from experience the strut/spring setups are very dissatisfying, IMO. So whenever I hear ppl considering get strut/springs before eventually upgrading to coils, I always advise to save your time and energy. Just get what you really want and don't settle.

I'm saving for Stance GR+ Pro's for the s13 and Enduratech's for the s14. I wish I had just done that from the start.

Edit: I also want to add this - The only strut/spring setup worth a damn is the Koni Yellows / Ground Control setup. But I don't know if you have ever seen a proper setup using this, but it costs almost $2000 to do it right. You might as well go with a high dollar coilover system....

Very clean starter, good job. I see some rust in the engine bay, might want to start by checking out the entire chassis. Rust is the 3rd largest destroyers of 240's. 2nd being car crashes, and 1st being ricers.

Coilovers have been my best investment. Ultra smooth ride on softest setting, Spirited driving on hard!

Also, welcome to NICO!

ive done 4 carpets with that stuff, works great but really let it dry, and it helps to scuff it up then repaint to get all the fabric. i was going to post in this the other day but i forgot, it looks like a great start for a kick a** car, keep us updated.

i know what im doing this weekend, going to paint the carpet black ive had my interior almost completely apart anyway so its nothing new for me to just take it out and repaint

also, KA-T FTW!!!! I have a spare ka that im going to rebuild and 2 manual trans, 1 for a manual swap, and 1 on the side to also rebuild to handle about 350-400hp. Im planning on rebuilding and turboing next summer. This summer its all about suspension (kts coils), brakes (300zx all round w/ rear knuckle), and 5speed swap.
