I'll take a shot at this.
None of these are my pics, but I've had all this stuff.
1.) Columbian Food
A columbian mixed-plate usually comes with some of the following:-Beans-Avocado Slices-Carne Asada-Chicharron (deep-fried pork fat)-Cheese Arepas-Rice-Fried Eggs-Sausage-Maduros (plantains)
This is, suffice it to say, the GREATEST COMBINATION IN THE WORLD. When you're really obnoxiously hungry, absolutely nothing beats a huge Columbian mixed-plate.
2.) Hawaiian Plate Lunch
Ironically called the "plate lunch" as it is almost always served in the ubiquitous Styrofoam carton.
It can consist of many things, from hawaiian food (lomi salmon, kahlua pig, poi), to Korean stuff (fish jun, kalbi, kimchi), to wacky combinations of things (curry loco moco).
It is usually served with "two scoops rice, one scoop mac salad"
This is "loco moco", which is a hamburger patty (seared outside, medium inside is the best), on top of rice, with gravy (I prefer substituting curry for gravy), and a runny fried egg on top. I also like some shoyu-fried spam on mine. This is SO GOOD. I make it at home on the regular, although I nabbed this pic from Flickr:
(this particular pic has the ubiquitous mac salad and also what looks like some lo mein noodles):
3.) Peruvian Chicken
This is pretty simple. Spice-rubbed chicken cooked on a rotisserie over open fire by people who do nothing but cook chicken this way all day, every day, for years.
There is no finer way to cook chicken, I promise (Jamaican Jerk is very close IMO, I think they're about equal and very similar). In DC, our favorite spot is a local two-restaurant chain called "El Pollo Rico". There are many others, most of which are good, but Pollo Rico is the best.
This is what you get. 1/4, 1/2, or whole chicken with awesome fries, cole slaw, and two dipping sauces (one spicy, one more like a mild mayo):
