i'm SERIOUSLY thinking about shelling out 3500 for a motorsetalso, i'm not 100% certain on the differences (ie. rb26 rods, vtc, solid lifters, bigger injectors/turbo, overall a badass block) between the series 1 and 2 rb25's, but i do know these motors kick ***, and would be WELL worth the extra $$$

i don't frequent this forum much, so i searched "neo" in the rb section and came up w/ 4 posts...i know this site has a killer rb section though... so yeah, just wanted some pointers from a few guys who've already swapped teh r34 NEO..

things i plan to do would be (going in a s14)

- syko mount kit- i saw a post on here for a wiring harness(i think that'll be the hardest part) "carl h" i think - fmic-Greddy IM (maybe)- griffin radiator (if i can find one)- some decent fans- all belts, hoses...all the little stuff (adds up)- arp head/main studs- headgasket- clutch- water pump- oil pump- yada yada...all the necesary bs

anyway i landed a job paying enough money to make this happen and i cant f*king wait to start

any advice will suffice...flames are welcome, as long as informative!

thx in advance

I would pass on that. My RB20 came alot cleaner then that and for a couple hundred more you can just get a RB26. Plus you can tell alot from a motor the way it looks. Open hoses and open ports = nono in my book. Seems some parts have been taken off from that motor.

3k only for the motor only?? No transmission?? It looks like it was auto too. And wheres the ECU??? For the parts missing its going to cost you another 1g at least.

Good luck! My.02 cents.

thx for all the comments guys, much appreciated

how can you tell it was an auto? the top pipe is gettin replaced too, though i won't use it (greddy mani) . i have pics of the ecu/maf too, and neo cover

trans

he said it he leakdown tested it and came back good. Compression was good however it was brought to my attention to get him to send pics of a compression gauge testing each cylinder. if that comes back good i'm gonna get it monday.

looks arn't everything, a little dust could cover the most reliable motor out there, ya never know. even if it's a blown motor, they'll refund my money.

u guys spot anything else that looks shady?

thx again

Wouldnt a NEO Engine require less engine parts like rebuying all the pumps that you do for the rb26 since all the NEO's come from R34 Skylines?

i'm gonna say it depends on the motor..

ideally neo's would have less mileage but not always the case

You guys are right about looks aren't everything but wouldn't you be a bit skeptical? I mean it also tells you how its been taken care of. And for some damn reason I just have a bad feeling about this motorset.

But hey good luck man. Hope the numbers come back damn good.

compression came back 200 psi all across...

this is bs... a new rb should be 174ish... he said though he put a tbl spoon of oil because the motor has been sitting which is why it read higher

i'm not sure what to do now, i've got another one lined up that i could eat off of...compression good around 150 - 160 all accross but he wants 3800- 4000...

i guess i should go with the better motor, but damn that's high as f*ck!

gotta pay to play i guess

so i bought the motor from jdm-online! and i'll just keep updating this thread with pics...

motor: R34 NEO RB25

reason i chose this motor -

NEO's fixed the crank collar (found in the series 1 & 2) problem resulting in oil pump failure has RB26 RodsSolid liftersNewer motorPull type clutch (better engagement).. puts out 280 hp stock..w/ BPU (3in exhaust, intake) should be lookin at 270-280 whp if not more.

today we changed headgasket for a cometic/arp studsbare with my ****ty photo skills

before head came off..cams have no wear/sludge buildup..low miles yay

head off

old vs new

prep

studs

wanna thank aaron for all the help..if all goes well should be up and rolling by halloween..next update will be with timing belt/ tension/idler pulleys and maybe port/polish for that extra 1-3 ponies... 8)

...have most of everything (parts) already, just waiting on the odds and ends now..

questions/comments/w/e...enjoy!

timing belt... tensioner/idler pulleys... torqued head to spec.. water pump

would've pulled the KA today but my loaner car (honda {piece of SHlT} civic) let me down..clutch went out on the way to auto zone...think the slave cylinder let go because pedal pressure was redonkulous..like pushing your foot into a brick wall, then all of a sudden NOTHING. anyways, that blows... onto the pics!

water pump

front w/ belt and pulleys

painted valve cover black...so nice, engine bay will be the same color

syko performance mounts...holy sheep SHlT .. diesel mounts ftw

clutch from tennessee clutch and supply w/ reworked pressure plate $120 : : :

if all goes well, we will be pulling the KA next weekend? hopefully...

contemplating the idea of chopping the factory runners off the IM and making a custom one (factory throttle body) to eliminate the crossover pipe..still wanna keep idle control lines along with other stuff, that's on down the road though...

stay tuned

yeah, somewhat... i didn't get the MAFS with my motor and it took Nesar almost 2 months to ship it...still don't have it, it's in transit...but yeah the motor's in good shape, harness was perfect, turbo in good condition... i paid 3000 shipped!

got the clutch from a shop here in nashville called

"TENNESSEE CLUTCH & SUPPLY" they reworked the stock pressure plate to accept the diskit should hold up until i can afford an exedy hyper singlei just wanted something to throw in the car that's better than stock and doesn't cost a fortunepull types are priceymy buddy has one (same type) in his turbo FC and it's holding up good. it's a sprung 6 puck that's supposed to hold 400 ft lbs.i'll let you know how it holds up!

do yourself a favor and go with a Q45 T/B reason being the factory NEO T/B is ridiculously big and an unsightly thing IMHO. mine is working fine with a Q45 T/B and im using a greddy plenum too...here is a shot of mine if you wanna check her out.

this picture you can see im not running an IAC valve cause the NEO IAC is a 4 bolt and the greddy plenum for the R33 series RB25 is a three bolt..seems how im not running AC i deleted it.

i opted to stay stock for a whilewith the factory IM...also stock TB

few reasons, i couldn't justify the $700 at the time and ..and id really rather have a clutch type diff

money wasn't the main issue either..the guys at SAU say the ports are a little different on the r33 greddy plenum and wouldn't advise to mate it to a neo head.

i don't see how, as i replaced the IM gasket with an r33 rb25 gasket and it was identical to my old gasket. also the iac and the ficd(?) aren't used, i'm a noob and am not sure how that alters the factory setup...all stock here, only mod motorwise so far is power intake and 3" exhaust from turbo back

plazmaman? i think makes one for the neo in australia...w/ custom TB he wants around what a Greddy goes for

this is all just what i read though, hope i'm not misinformed

i followed ur build on ur 240sxforums thread.. hows she running with the 35? any problems besides the bad coil?

running very well...i did make a bad choice however skimping on the turbo manifold..i bought an ebay one which i had to modify, the manifold is still in fine shape but i have been fighting a problem with boost creep. at first i thought it was a the size of my wastegate so i bumped it up to a greddy 50mm racegate..it did help out alot but i am still experiencing creep..the manifold will yet again have to be modified...meaning one additional tube coming from just underneath the flange for the turbo and plumbing it into the gate..i want to get ext flow from a better source..so instead of having one pipe running to my gate i am going to be having two..(kinda like the peak performance one)

well i can tell you that the guys on SAU are incorrect..i have had mine up and running with no issues on that side of the motor EVER. the only thing is i had afew obsticles to overcome. one was the IAC valve, two was the throttle body and three was the injectors..the injectors i still maintained top feed injectors but i had to modify my stock fuel rail to make it fit the way i wanted it to make me satisfied. you can see in this pic whati had to do

yeah, i'm half tempted to go for the greddy plenum now, seems like the fuel rail won't be too hard to adjust

only thing is i wanna run power steering. no AC though.

my buddy suggested turning the thottle body adjuster screw, whatever that is - similar to an idle adjustment bolt. just enough to hold the butterfly open a little to bump up the idle a little bit so whenever it sees a load like power steering it won't fall on it's face.

anybody ever done this?
