There you go, lot's of early 80's and late 70's turbo cars didn't have them either. Then you can just use intercooler hose from turbo to TB.

Thats for the entire FMIC kit, couplings and piping included. I only used that as an example. Aaron obviously has hunter gatherer skills, I'm sure he can snag a Supra IC or somthing along those lines for way cheap.

Not to mention when he does swap in the RB for his next project, the FMIC stays. So it isn't just a ghetto budget item, its a good investment.

Period Dot means end of argument, anything said beyond that becomes mute.

Masta hunter/gatherer/fabber here!

I mean, I did score the complete rb25 swap (out of a s13) for 2350...

Current progress report:

I've had some free time this week, so I've made some good progress. I did install a good fmic, but I'm not going to include the price of it due to the fact that I already had it, so it goes in the category of "shop parts". Also the battery relocation, that was done more in preparation for the rb swap anyway. The manifold is done and mounted, I'll get some pics tonight. The downpipe is about half done, pics of that too. FMU is installed, as well as the walbro. More complete update w/ pics to follow...

The only problem I have with the $200 budget is that it is effectively unattainable for anyone but you. We are talking about a turbo setup that was built mostly from stuff you had lying around like a $90 fuel pump and a $180 FMU, $150 intercooler set, etc.

I am happy that you are able to get a little piece of turbo heaven for 200 or so bux, and get by until you have a fully built RB25, but it is hardly budget.

Upon completion of the project, I'll go through and make a parts list with current market values for all the parts. I'm guessing the total will be around 5-600.

I like the idea of that, and I think you are probably right. Something between 500 and 700.

BTW, have you checked to make sure that the mani seals? Or are you going to address it when you get it started and find leaks?

You know the worst part of it all, is you will make as much if not more WHP as the CA claims in CHP for that. HA! What a bunch of dopes!

Here's the update.

Manifold completed and installed:

With the turbo setting in place:

A couple pics of the beginning of downpipe modification:

FMU installed, but not really mounted yet:

And the sweet pvc (as promised!) cold pipe mocked up :

It should be wrapped up and running tomorrow. Then there'll be plenty of pics and video of the "finished" product.

Bet the first problem is that the pipe dope fails. Not naysaying, but I know that stuff. I built a boost leak detector and it kept popping off. But you might be alright at only 7psi.

look @ that manifold!, so was that the stock mani, welded shut on the end side and made a hole in the middle?(always though about somefin like that with a dohc mani, not do it by the middle but more like @ the end of the mani)

There do make adjustable FMU's but aren't all FMUs round, since they require the discs?

I'm not absolutely sure. That's what he told me, but it has no identifying markings on it, so???

Just up the pressure to like 60PSI or something, should get a few more cc's of fuel in there. Just make sure the fuel lines are on good.

Then he gets crap gas mileage and his idle AFR's go in the gutter...

I'm trying to get him to swap in some 370's he has and go with a MAF Bypass and base timing retard for tuning.

OMG

Please remove valve cover tube from cold pipe unless you plan on boosting the crap out of the valvetrain and block insides.....

Although funny to an onlooker it would surely make your entire budget and craftsmanship efforts moot.

Yeah, WD sorry, I'll buy you a beer if you're ever in CT.

Not true, My Enthalpy ecu I have been running at 75psi and Have perfect idle and cruise. I just don't know if it is safe. But in his situation, it might not matter, cause he has the RB waiting.

If you're running 75psi its because the tune sucks or you would be running rich, don't argue because thats fact. Rom tunes are either designed for high fuel pressure or they are designed around a 43.5 psi base fuel pressure. Increasing said fuel pressure WILL make the fuel map rich...period.

Update #2 - Project Success!

After a couple minor issues, the project has been deemed a success! The issues basically consisted of me neglecting to disconnect one of the pcv lines resulting in poor oil drainage characteristics in the turbo drain (think m4d smoking turbo) as well as some oil loss in other places. With that rectified everything seems to be pretty satisfactory. I didn't really have room for the wastegate actuator, so we just wired it shut. We're making max boost of 8 psi at approx 2700-2900 rpm. Here's some pics of everything.

Our sweet temp boost gauge

Apex-i GT exhaust (it came with the RB, so I figured I might as well put it on, it sounds great!).

The FMIC that also came with the RB.

Plumbing, cold pipe side.

REAL FMU installed in there.

Ign coil relocated to former air box location.

Side view of the turbo, showing the drain, supply etc.

The sweet downpipe mentioned before, kinda brutal but no leaks!

And finally, an over-all front view of the turbo.

That's really all there is to it. It took me about a week, working a few evenings and one Saturday. I'll be doing a realistic market value breakdown on everything shortly.
