Well... just an idea of what im running..

1990 chasis fb1994 S13 redtopBone stockKA radiator Old fuel pump (walbro will be installed once heat/time/work permits)6 puck clutch (freebie)3" down pipe, 3" high flow cat, BRM exhaust.210lb heavy arse (myself)

I came to the track hoping for mid 14's at worst or even best. Even a 14.9 would've made me happy.

But, I ran 15.5 best and 16.2 at my worst......

My reaction time was .6~.7 on average

Now i turn this into a question, is it me, fuel pump, radiator (super heat?), or maybe my cat that may be causing such horrific times? Or just a combonation of it all?

Any help i'd gladly appreciate.

P.S. most searchs i pull up of "stock" sr20 installs are simular but may have a new fuel pump or if not a koyo radiator or something that makes it different than my baby. And from what i see they run 14.1's on average.

Fuel pump would be a priority in my opinion, mainly for insurance reasoning against detonation from running lean.

Another thing you want to look into is getting airflow to the intercooler, as well as checking over all your timing, and vacuum setups. Once you get a well maintained setup you can go from there.

Removing the hi-flow cat will only give you about 1-2 HP tops, the OEM one is worth about 5 HP on a relatively stock engine. 02 housing won't do much for you either. The only thing that you could really see a large gain from would be to save up for a FMIC setup. Then you could run more boost, and get down into the 13's.

Radiators can help by keeping the car running cooler, which will help keep nominal timing.

Better gains can be had from better tires, and more off the line traction. With slicks you'd be in the 14's easily as is, but honestly it wouldn't be a realistic street trim result.

It's not your reaction times that matter. It's your launch like what Nismo_Freak said. It's your 60 ft that counts the very most when drag racing. You probably had 2.5 60 fts or something similar to be running that ****ty.

Just to finish this thread up, thanks for the info guys. Time to finally go install the fuel pump, and make sure everything is super A-OK vacuums/timing is alright. Thanks again.

Cool I wouldn't expect a whole lot from those things unless something was off, but at least the car should run smoother.

You talking to me? How you figure shifting was a problem? I've driven stick since I was 15.. I'm 22 now.......

i wouldnt go bashing his driving yet. what kind of trap speeds were you running? because if they are low, something could be wrong. back when i ran 14.1 i trapped at 97mph. You should trap high 90's. or if u have ****ty traction you should trap even higher. :P

no mack daddy, i meant heavy1.....

he said he ran 15s with a sr dropped in.... i dont know how you can manage that. ive always been a natural driver, my 14.1 at the the track was my 3rd run ever on the track and just learning to drive stick. r/t .2 an .3 from then on. my next r/t 'sat the track was 0.02 to .300. his car is a 14 second car even with the smic...

and my 14.1 and 14.0 had trap speeds were both at 97mph just a note

Sea level is very important in time difference as well.

I'll be honest here, with my first sr swap years ago fastest I ever ran on a totally stock swap with stock boost was 15.1 @ 91 mph with a 2.2 60 ft at 2500 ft above sea level.

You probably got one of those super duper sr's. I remember a guy five or six years ago on a complete stock sr swap doing 12.9@1xx mph. Even had the timeslip to prove it...odd, but guy opened up the head and everything; was found to be stock.

yeah, im not sure whats up with my sr... tops out at 127 and not 115.... weird... and its 127 cause thats what the cop told me last weekend.... having a skyline conversion and a good personality can really get you out of some jams... its a shame my turbo is going.... my mbc spiked to 16 on me one night and i didnt realize it until a massive flame shot out of my exhaust during boost... still feels straight but im sure i have some shaft play. yeah, some engines are magical... jdmexchange.com, when i was at their warehouse, they say some engines are just nuts. they said they are waiting to open up this rb26... its got madd goodies in it for sure but it does look stock. hks had its way with it.. thats all they know

Even if your swap is near stock, get it on the dyno with a simple fuel controller. Right after I swapped before tuning, my car only managed 167 on the rollers with a s15 turbo running 7 psi. The fuel parameters were simply crap even with the stock ecu and injectors with a bigger fuel pump. The result of $80 worth of tuning and just 3 extra pounds of boost? over 240 wheel horse power. I know a near stock SR can sqeeze out 240whp with some tuning, and that extra 70 horses goes a hell of a way in making the car faster.

Wish maybe some day I'll be lucky enough to get a motor like that. Unfortunately I've had three motors that are stock

Six years ago I started out with a swap that was put together collecting parts for two years(harness, ignitor chip, ka24e maf, ecu, etc) then when the swap finally came I discovered the freaking transmission was shot so I had to buy another transmission to replace the old one. It was damn hard collecting parts then, it cost an arm and a leg for everything. Whuddyaknow...six years ago it was damn hard to find someone that would sell just the transmission also so I ended up with another motor/transmission set. So I just swapped it in like that into my s13 coupe at the time. Now I have an s13 fb with a black top sr and still the same. I wish one of these motors was special!

You can use the KA transmission on the SR right? thats what I've heard from everybody, I havent really looked at them closely, I have an extra KA transmission left over from when I went from kasohc to kadohc.

But about the quarter I had a lotta of tranction problems with hard street tires and an open diff. if I launched from above 2500 rpm it would just roast one tire so my best run was from less then 2000 rpm which meant hella turbo lag through first, with lsd I could have done much better.

LSD helps yea but if you know how to launch you can keep from roasting the tires.

I ran last saterday for the first time

1989 HatchRedtop SR13 PSI on SMICSAFC IIExhaust6 Puck Clutch with stock everything elseOpen Diff.195/55/16 tires

Reaction (doesnt matter) 0.16860 ft: 2.341/8 et: 9.23 (.3 Slower than my prior best)1/4 et: 14.1Trap MPH: 100

Didnt spin at all off the line because I reved to 3000 and preloaded the rear end (Slip the clutch some on launch) Once you feel the car start to pull pop the clutch all the way out and let it rip.

i ran a 15.9 at 85mph with my 93 240sx coupe, all i have done to it is an intake and exhaust. my r/t was .5 too, it was my first time racing at the track, so i think i did pretty good.

oh and you guys know to let some air out of the rear tires... i put them to about 22 psi... great for traction at the track. could shave .1+ off 60ft.... i have an open diff and really can pull off some awesome launches on my 195 65 15.... im hoping for 12.9 @ 14.5 psi of boost on the t25.... best times ive seen with stock motors on the t25 is 12.8 step 2 hks cams and gears can ususally help the t25 put you in mid-low 12s.

My Buddy ran a 13.2 at 108 on Balled tires running 13 psi, FMIC, LSD, Full Exhaust including Manifold and J Pipe and stage 1 HKS cams. With tuning and tires we think we can get him into 12s easy.

Have you ever seen a slick? Bald tires = street slicks...no honestly though, bald tires are actually better for drag racing than tires that still has a lot of tread left; more contact patch is the reasoning behind it.

starkos14: I know about the decreasing rear tire pressure helps on traction, I'm too lazy to pump air back into the tires before getting back onto the freeway.

Although the main reason why I don't decrease tire pressure also is because it creates more friction which can also slow you down also. Controversial, but I like to run my cars street trim. Until I hit 300+ whp then I'll go to slicks.

first of all i wouldnt even call the strip driving, its looking at a tach and shifting at a certain point. if your going to question someones driving abilities atleast have a motorsport that requires some skill as a starting platform

That was sarcasm if you didn't get it. But bald tires do give better traction than tires that has treadware.

A. I knowB. slicks > street slicks > Bald smooth hard compound > good tire with treadware
