Post Title: KAT Picture Thread
Posted by: WDRacing at 1:17 PM 1/16/2007

Here's a place to post all of your KAT related pictures. I'll be going through these daily looking for article worthy rides and cars to use for the "Ride Of The Month". Please feel free to post whatever you have. Maybe a short review of what we're looking at, but thats not important. I'll be scouring the Net for quality pics and posting what I find.

This thread will also assist in helping out others who are trying to decide what route to go with. Or how they can build a DIY type of setup.

If you have pictures but either don't know how to host them online or don't have an account anywhere. Simply email them to me and I'll host them on my account and post them for you here with any information you'd like me to include. To email pictures, simply go to the Add Attachment link and add whatever you'd like me to host for you. Just put "KAT Pics" in the email heading, so I don't miss them. WDRacing2003@yahoo.com

Also, try to limit the size of the pics. I'd like the thread easy to scroll through without doubling the size of the page. Again, if you need help resizing etc, just email the pics to me, I'll edit, host and then post them for you.

Also, lets keep all the posts limited to those posting pictures. If you want info about a certain pic, email that person or make a thread about that particular setup. I'll be monitoring this thread closely and will be editing it as I see fit.

WD

Here's a few to start things off. This is Scotty240's old project.

I don't know WD....this thread might get a little out of control if we just stick all the pics into one thread. I do like the fact that it's easy accessible since it's already in the KA-T forum though. However, I really also like KA-T.org's idea of having a separate section for pictures. Im up for anything though but I'm just wondering is this for sure how it's going to be.

Also, I realize there's no more picture hosting? Am I wrong? I don't want to bother you with pictures I want to use for the classifieds section so what should I do?

Well I installed my FMIC today, looks ok. excuse the crappy looking bumper i have new bumper and fenders coming next week. I have to adjust it a bit 2mar, install took about 2 hours with a few soda's here and there.

the black piping scheme had to be altered, it was a universal kit and the piping didn't come with air idler nozzle. so i had to actually used my old warm air intake. it fit's just like it was meant to be there. I have a ton of piping left over, only used 2 1/2 bends

Here is my 93 ka-t. the engine is blueprinted and balanced, wiseco standard bore 8.5:1 pistons, Pauter rods, clevite bearings, stock head with 3 angle valve job and rebuilt, stock cams for now. Homemade intake manifold, FP 60-1 turbo tial 38 WG, 780cc injectors DSM E-PROM ecu and supporting sensors, etc..
I just changed out the rear end with the Q45 rear ( I kept snapping axles on the line ) I am waiting on a test nissan auto transmission with manual valve body and T brake from a well known domestic tranny company. ( it will arrive in the next couple of weeks ) Welds and MT Drag Radials 275 50 15 on the way, as well as B&M pro ratchet shifter. This should be on the track by end of May or first of June.

Well here are some pics.

I will post up some other pics when Image shack stops being dumb. I tried the host you posted the link up for WD but it put the same wrong 2 pictures up over and over.

Actually I am in the middle of making another one. But this one will not be a chopped up stock manifold. It will be made completely from scratch and I should be testing it out in the next few weeks. I want to see how it does against a stock manifold in my S13 on the dyno. Then a friend is going to buy it and we will see what it does on his S 14 stock block with the 232 cams.

I will get some pics of mine up soon!

nice setup. lol got you beat on price too
yeah I have a "back up" turbo I managed get out of my budget but it is kinda blown(probably makes boost still just oils from old/bad seals)
also this is my second motor, the original 190kish sohc lied to me about the temp, all water ran out, and it got the tap like the clap but for cars

like I said IDK what this motor has gone through in its life but I personally beat the **** out of it. Daily. I'm still in the ooohhhhhhh aaaaaaahhh stage with it all, I've gotten sideways a few times even ran a few guys, hardly had to go past 4600ish, I keep thinking its about to redline and its not even close so I think it might last a bit if I keep the boost down and dont rev out to redline all the time like n/a needed to.

I would like to go bigger but the budget is not looking good for it atm, movign is a *****.

Post Title: Re: (neverlift)
Posted by: Biggamehit at 3:34 PM 9/3/2007

hahah yea right now im probably just hitting the 1500 dollar mark... forums and local shops have saved me a bit...

my first turbo motor lasted about a year.. and i beat the hell out of it... the last one was a freak accident.. and the one i have now is good.

man if those seals are blown, dont use it lol i had to clean about a half qt of oil out of my intercooler and clean all of my couplers and bov lol

Post Title: Re: (Biggamehit)

its not pretty but is works...improvements coming over winter.

Post Title: Re: (nelson8708)
Posted by: Biggamehit at 5:43 AM 9/4/2007

hey man its all about learning.. you have guys that sit on their *** and try to save up ALLL these parts in **** thinking that they will not have issues... why they do that you have already boosted your motor and learned tons of things.. there have been enough of us that have blown things up for you to read about and say ........... yea im not going to do that lol...

good stuff bro... as you can see my setup evolved from a laughing stock to a good setup.. and still when i have the beginner setup, i put my car in the 13s...... funny ehh lol

only thing is bro.. once the heat hit those home depot couplers enough,, they will pop off

Post Title: Re: (Biggamehit)
Posted by: nelson8708 at 1:41 PM 9/4/2007

i am sure they will. I am getting a holset over winter to put on and play with (probably a Hx35, Hy35, or H1C). Maybe then i can finally put in my injectors. I cant trust my wide band because of the gay turbo flange on the t25 leaks. I am not able to get the 5th bolt in. I hope by then i can have a daily beater so i can really turn things up.

Lmao yea bro

i could have cut it at the end to make it go down. but you know that would have made it almost impossible to clamp..

i also had to insert a piece of pipe inside the end of the cold pipe so that i could clamp it hard enough.

i hacked up the greddy hot pipe.. well cut a section out and flipped it upside down.

Great DIY setups fella's. Quick tip, use hairspray to keep the couplers from seperating.

I noticed that too. The pipe would just.. collapse. Mine's cut right where you see the blue hose and then from there I just tossed the old piece and replaced it with some ABS drain pipe 90* elbows. Hopefully they won't blow off under 7 psi. The car isn't even finished yet, but it won't be running that sidemount for long.

..And certainly not at anything over 7 psi.

stfu I like zipties the angle is perfect too, 5psi is like the seven I was running... sleeper looking too

open hood shot showing the eghey bov(nice sound too )
excuse the two tone I have going on, paint is on the list...

still need to get my 370's in but I may just up boost to 10 check my afrs for a few hundred miles and leave the 270's in so long as they hold me in the 11:1 or below afr, if she has good numbers leave it alone for a while. Come feb, the build can really start.

nice rides guys keep it going.

I was gonna post these images in one of my other threads KAT Redeaux, but I decided here's as a good a place. I shot these back in August. I blew-up the red OBX Silicon radiator hose so that's gone. I can't justify $140 Agency Power silcione hoses yet...so whatever...Got rid of the thermostat completely. She's running a bit rich and needs a tune real bad, but I tell you what.. the car can literally take my breathe away... hahaha...

whats up with the fuel rails guys lmk I would like to find out if they are out of boxbolt on? I know top feed injectors are required

Post Title: Re: (neverlift)
Posted by: xsvhp at 8:11 AM 10/1/2007

In Germany, the term was used for both turbo and supercharging during WWII and beyond. Both use the system of compressing air into the intake. In fact, most early turbo systems were known as turbosupercharged. As turbos became more prevalent, many shortened it to just turbocharged. (I'm a history teacher).

If you look at many of today's superchargers, they are VERY similar to a turbo, just driven by a belt rather than by exhaust gases.

Post Title: Re: (xsvhp)
Posted by: neverlift at 2:40 PM 10/1/2007

well I didnt know that thanks teach

well kinda I didnt know the superturbo part, I've contemplated making a supercharger from a turbo cartridge just for shyt and giggles may do it with the spare I have but IDK sems too much work would be involved, for a s/c system in general... lol a s/c seems crazy now I'm boosted, this t25 spools so fast rain driving is very nerve testing, anything more than 1/3 throttle and boost comes on with tires blazing directly after, even 5th

Post Title: Re: (neverlift)
Posted by: ZiG at 6:51 PM 10/1/2007

Hmm. I had always thought turbosupercharged was the same as twincharged. I guess a centrifugal supercharger resembles a turbocharger.. but not a roots or 'screw' type.

But let me ask you this: Did any mercedes benz ever come with a turbocharger and a badge saying 'kompressor' on the back?

No it's a Renova panel, it'a full carbon fiber panel sold by Phase2Motortrend. Same basic design as Garage Defend, but a lot less, does the same job.

That 'backwards' motor is normal. The picture was just mirrored. Look at the accessories, fuse boxes, and other items. 2+2=4

Post Title: Re: (eazye2000)
Posted by: 480sx at 7:17 PM 3/13/2008

EZ you may be good at arithmetic but wth are you thinking man! That picture is definitely not a reflection of a ka-t(engine, with the bay and everything else normal), or some photoshop trick. Thats a legit pic, i still cant say for sure what it is however.

I figure since i have a ka-t i might as well toss my pics up here too. Took me a year to get it to this point. Enjoy!

Dude, LOOK at the picture. Look at the fuse box. It's on the opposite side. Along with the coolant overflow tank.....
Also, look at the fuel rail. Then look at the fuel line. It's going to the 'wrong' side of the car. If that was a 'normal' picture, the fuel line would have to go back over the engine, and then down.

Someone tell me I'm not crazy. Just take a second and look at it.. I'm gonna fight this one until someone proves me insane....

Just to make double sure.. Here's the pic again.

Post Title:
Posted by: DevilMB3017 at 4:08 AM 3/14/2008

There it is mirrored. And a NORMAL engine bay. A lot of cell phones mirror images automatically if you have a flip-phone closed, it assumes your taking pictures of yourself... haha

Altima KA in a 240? Why would when you get a RWD KA for so little?

I made those things man! They turned out so sweet.. Cost me less than 10 bucks . Just used 3/8ths inch brake line that you can pick up from any parts store and bent it myself. I offered to loan out the tool to any of the regular ka-t guys but no one took me up on it. Check out this thread if you want some more info. Its in the FAQ too ---> http://forums.nicoclub.com/zerothread/300407

Damn, good at arithmetic, AND observant! I had no idea about the cell phone thing, makes sense now.

frsh13, your not gona be the only one with those manifolds for long! Im getting one too ^^. AMS made another batch for us and we should have them in another month or maybe a little longer. Cant freaken wait..

I've been looking at all the catch can setups you guys are posting.
And I've just been contemplating about it for when I go KA-T.

Is the proper way supposed to be between the PVC line that comes from the front of the intake manifold, and the cold pipe?

Or in between the V/C to after the MAF?

Or filter both of them?
