So, we set up the aquarium a week and a half ago. Added some suicide fish, and once the water had started to cycle, we brought home the newest member of our family.

His name is "Atilla" and he is a Silver Arrowana. He will grow to be 3 - 3.5 feet in that tank. The tank is 75 gallons with a 10 gallon sump filter. The little guys are just the feeders (suicide fish) and helped to start the ammonia/nitrate cycle in the tank.

I have also added some nice living plants to the tank today, after I took the pics. (Looks way nicer with the foliage He is alone for now, but will have a hystrix stingray joining him in a week or two.

oOO Nice. I like those a lot... but 75 gallons? Is that enough? Seems like 100-150 would be better?I wouldn't know since all I have are cichlids

Yet to be named, kinda ugly, but cool looking at the same time

No sweat. You have some nice fish. Just takes a lot of savings to get it set up.

I hope others post up pics of their fish too...

I had a nice sized fish back home but it died. as did the rest of my many other fish.

when I get my own house I'm going to have a giant saltwater tank. or one that requires no changing of the water lol. that's always a *****.

the algae is a come and go thing, i leave the sides because of the position of the tank against the wall.

bean thats my porcupine puffer, a rescue from a few years ago. she was one of the designer "dyed" fish and the dye is now starting to fade a bit. but she can swap colors at her choosing. the irony is i have photos of her entire life in my tanks since i got her. my friends call it the "baby" book.

if i wasnt into Sw tanks id prolly have more money for my s12 but its a worthy trade off.

what i dont have photos of is the shrimp, clams, corals, and mafia style demoiselles in the tank. but its the same size upper tank as yours. a 75. I do hope youve sealed that lid on your tank. arrowanas are awesome jumpers its just never good to find them on the floor after said spectacular jump.

im going 150+ gallons soon enough, the porc will hit 18" at some point and ill need the space.

if you wanna see other shots of her i can post em up, but i didnt wanna take the whole thread over.

had a beta fish, aka "master-beta" it lived a good while, then commited suicide(jumped out of the tank). I would too if I had to spend a year in my sister's room.

Use to have an Oscar in a 75gallon tank. ne day I went fishing and brought back 2 brim. Almost as big as him. In th emiddle of the night I was woken up to water being sloshed and the lid falling(luckily went to the wall side)Time I got to the light there was 2 dead brim lol. Oscar just had a messed up nose, and a couple scales missing.

I want an Arrowana, I'd probably rather have that than anything saltwater, at least anything reasonable (giant grouper notwithstanding, etc...)

Is it tough to keep Arrowana, or are they relatively easy to care for? I really am considering putting a large fishtank in my game room....

But the same set up that I have, if I had done it in saltwater, would have cost me up to $1k more. The fish are more expensive, and they are MUCH harder to care for.

Arrowana are easy to care for if you get a mid-sized one. Small (under 8") are harder because they mainly eat tiny feeder fish and bloodworms. When they are larger (if you train them to) they will eat uncooked shrimp from the freezer. I feed him shrimp from Costco. He also eats cichlid pellets, and anything that swims in there. I try to stay away from common feeder fish, since many of them suffer from some type of sickness, and can pass it along to my fish. Crickets are a good suppliment for them as well, and fun to watch them eat. Basically, yes, they are a hearty fish, and easy to care for. Just like it was mentioned earlier, get a good lid, and put some weights on it. I have 10lbs holding down mine, because they are awesome jumpers.

yeah, bean is correct, my SW system is worth about 10k at retail prices, ive traded, cut deals, bought gently used, and had custom work done to reduce the cost and still maintain things well. my regal angel (the yellow blue and white slightly blurry photo) is worth about 200 bucks at half that size, and a healthy eating one that has survived as long as mine is easily selling for about 500 or so to a fish enthusiast. i paid 30 bucks for it and took a VERy risky shot as they are extremely delicate fish and dont do well with shipping.

enough typing though here are some more photos.

Jager, you have one seriously AWESOME aquarium!

Teddy, the neon's are cool. My wife didn't want her neon's anymore, so the neon's and some scissor fish became the "suicide fish". Most have been eaten.
