Hey, I'm not that familiar with rbs so can anyone please briefly explain to me which of these three engines would be best to swap on a 240sx s13 89?

You found the right forum, so It could be worse. But it's not what others think is better it's about what you figure out that you want on your own.

figure you budget for such a swap as in how much you have to spend or willing to spend.

Figure the type of application you wish to use this car for (street, road, track, drift, drag, etc, etc, etc.)

research, research, research the engines you might potentially swap. much is uncovered in this step.

Make a grid, matrix, cost vs. benefit analysis, etc. etc. whatever fits your decision making process.

Determine what engine best fits your needs and budget.

Re-evaluate budget.

multiply by x2.

Then call me

Knowllage?

Postby rbNissan » Sat Nov 08, 2008 11:40 am

Im a bit of a noob when it comes to Nissans I was a honda guy for the last 10 years and have decided to move on to a more powerful car. I have a 95 nissan 240sx I am looking to swap a motor into the car and I am looking at putting a rb25det motor into my car Ive read this forum. But am still alittle unsure. how reliable would a rb25 motor swap be in the car.

as reliable as you make it. Get a beat up motor or just swap it in without going over it to do maintenance and it can either provide you with a good time of fun or a problem child thing after thing.

Spend some money and do things right as you swap it in, then these things are less likely to fail and cause you problems when using this motor daily.

Its just like anything else in life... Date a girl and not pay her any attention during the beginning of the relationship, she'll either dump you or will create problems for you and you'll be picking up the pieces as you go.

Or you can just start out by learning what she likes, get the bad luggage out of the way, etc. and you'll have a much better prepped relationship.

(now thats some quality advice, people pay for that, )

hope that helps

Alright then. According to the shop they have replaced the intake manifold with a Greddy Intake Manifold, Greddy Intercooler, Nismo Engine Mounts, Upgraded Fuel pump, Upgrade Water Pump. Now assuming everything else is still in good condition. what would the next step be I have heard that the main bearings are good to replace. Any other suggestions?

If you are going into the block to do bearings, you should opt to do the crank collar as well. Replace the rod bolts with some ARP hardware.

Cool? Sticking with an I6 is cool, but I would swap an M motor in. Good luck and keep us updated!

A drive shaft out of a datsun 620 pu works too for those of you that want to use a single drive shaft. It can be cut to size for around 40 bucks anywhere. I have used this myself for a swap.

I just have a quick question. I know a guy with a shot rb20 block and i know where i can get a good rb25 block is it possible to use the 20 head on the 25 block? If so what needs to be done to make this work? I now the 20 head isn't as good as the 25 but the 25 block has no head with it and his 20 head is good.

Whats the deal w/ the 26's individual TB setup? Is it worth keeping or is it better to do a regular 25 style intake w/ single TB? I'm still a newb to the RB so I'm not sure which is better to have for a race setup.

There is a shop in Richardson that sells rb25det. A friend of mine bought a H22A there and has had no problems with it. I've bought some r33 brakes and rear subframe from there. They jacked me around a little on shipping. But if I go there in person everything is fine. "jdmenginescorp" on ebay. They have a rb25det for sale right now for $2k. I suggest going in person and picking out the rb25det you want.

NOT all rb25det's have cermic turbos ONLY the s2 had them. I personally know this because i have an actual r33 skyline gts25t S1 and am running at full boost 17psi STOCK turbo if it was cermic it woudl have blown apart at 1 bar

Rb20s are great and fun. Even though they arnt one of the more money saving swaps they are definatly worth it and sound better stock then any other 240s ive heard when they get on it

what are the three weaknesses of the rb26 for reliability.

I believe they are:

1 - too much oil in the head, extra drain needed.
2 - crank collar.
3 - ...

fill in the third and elaborate please.
