You don't need RB26 power in a "drift" 240SX. You'll be fine with any engine, really, even the much-maligned KA24 and RB20 can pretty easily get the ideal-for-drift 350-400hp.

I have a GTR. And I would just like to agree with the original post.... $$$$ $$$$ $$$$. Fully rebuilt my engine too a 2.7L with forged internals, head work IE. Cams cam gears etc... and added GT4088R, and GReddy manifold. Let me tell you.... $$$$$$$$ but will be well worth it when she is running!

so, just as general info...you could stroke and bore an rb20 block to fit rb26 pistons and rods?what kind of result would this produce and what kinda head work would you need to look into??just checking the idea out because it's entertaining my tinuh wettle mind

you stroke a RB20 using the RB26 crank. Custom pistons are in call for this setup.

You'll end up roughly a 2.4L RB. Depending on your piston bore is what gasket you'll use for the head as well if you need to enlarge the domes or whatever on the head.

Back to the RB's. I'm torn between the RB25DET and the RB26DETT. I really want the 26 but i think that i might have to settle for the 25. Besides the upgradability of the 26, how much better is the 26?

I've found that emissions are pretty simple here in Ohio for RB engines. A simple catco high flow catalytic and my rb25 passed with 98% efficiency. Just have to let the car warm up, is all.

and have a pre-obd2 car

I dont want to burst your bubble but to truely bllueprint an engine would cost mad $$$$ and every engine would have to be hand assembled...not only does blue print mean bearing clearances but also balancing the rotating assembley, ring end gap, bore ID and taper, piston to wall, deck height, not to mention top ed components like valve spring install height, seat pressure, valve guide clearance, etc. Hands down no mass produced RB engine is truely blueprinted, they may have tight specs but not blueprinted...only RB engines that i know are blueprinted are the 400R...sorry eh...

I've recently considered an rb25 or rb20 for my daily driver s13 (no drifting, maybe kicking out the wheels ocasionally but no drifting). so any real life experience opinions on my idea?rb20?rb25?

thank god, the guessin i have been looking for since i started to read all of these post. please some one answer this. I'm leaning more to the rb20 side because im going for a dd, and want to have the rb > the sr. and is it just me or is the rb25 enough for a s chassis? do u really need the rb26dett, unless ur going for drag.lol just my 2 cents. (Newbi Q ) i have also hear that the stock tranny on an rb20 is weak, but how? will it be ok for a dd w/ minor drift tendensies?

RB20's are fun, and so are RB25's.

The RB20 tranny is noted to be "weaker" than a RB25 tranny. Not to mistaken as a weak transmission. 20 Trannys are more than capable to handle daily load and some thrashing. To consider, RB20 tranny = SR20 tranny strenght since they use the same internals.

What ever your budget can afford/ application you seek to use the motor for will determine which route to take.

Either way, you'll be happy with your purchase if wisely research your journey.

Carl did a write up on installing iirc a KA or SR short shifter in his 20 box. search it up.
