ya so i'm in the process of baking my lights right now. took off my stillen front fascia, took off the passenger light, baked it, pried it open, painted it, and i'm letting it dry now. OMG! this thing was f***ing horrible to open! i opened it without really messing up anything but i had to fight with it and the stuff they use to seal it is like plastic so half the time i wasnt sure if it was part of the light or just the sealant stuff. here are a couple pics, stay tuned throughout the night.

the worst part for me was the fact that i opened the light without taking off a lot of the stuff that seals it. so then the light was open (the back, black plastic piece was off) but then the clear "glass" part and the rest of the light were still together. had to take out i believe 3 screws (they wernt flat head or philips, the 3rd kind) and then when i tried to separate it, it wouldnt separate! turns out there was some more of the sealant stuff holding the silver part of the light to the clear part. had to use a heat gun to loosen it and then cut it.

just took a break to eat some hella good Bosnian food from my friend's mom and now taking a hookah break

i painted the first coat flat black and it came out pretty damn good! i sprayed a 2nd coat just for the little spots i missed by the reflector. letting it dry right now and then for the scary part, putting it back together and hoping it seals good... i'm not using any sealant, just whats already there. i dont want to use other stuff and then have the seal too fat and not work right. so i'm going to see if it seals fine with just this, if not then ill open it again and use some more stuff.

U should break out all that old sealant and start fresh with new sealent. That way if u need. To open them again it won't be so hard. But great work. One of these days I need to. Take another crack at it. I also want to do the dash lights. Maybe we can. Arrange a little trade. U do my dash and I will make u a fiber glass sub box. Lol

P.s. we have the exact same garage door. Lol

Make sure u bake the parts u paint again before re assembly. The paint can release fumes and cloud up ur lights when they get hot. Balding them will cure the. Paint and get rid of the fumes

ya, your right. lol i'm doing it at my friends house and every place is closed now but his dad was an electrician and he gave me some clear silicone and thats what another member recommended. he said he used it for his lights and it worked out perfect.

i would do a write up but there already is one. the only thing i would really add to the write up is saying that when opening the lights, use a flat head screw driver and try to pry it open from all sides and that it helps to have a heat gun and a friend to help hold the light from moving and sometimes to hold the heat gun..

i didnt bake the paint on BUT i went over it with the heat gun a good amount so i think i should be ok.

here are some more pics (not the greatest cuz its night time)

comparison between stock and painted

and on the car... the flat black matches my cars color (dark slate)

How long did the one headlight take you ???Was the silicone anything special ???

I wasn't too eager to do this until I just saw your pic right now. I always thought the chrome would look funny with black so I was going to hold out until I had the guts to try projectors.

awww man, i'm still here at armin's house with my car in pieces! i finished one light and i just painted the other so i might have to do another coat once it drys but idk. then i have to put the light back together and let it sit for a while and then put everything back together. Armin's sister made cookies and gave me some! then his mom made me some hella good Bosnian food... oh and sorry for not texting back, i was a lil busy..

the problem is, most people take out the reflector and to me it looks horible when you take out the reflector. ive only seen one other person paint the reflector and thats what made me want to paint my lights so bad.

the silicone wasnt anything special, just some clear silicone. i put a good amount to where it looks like everything is sealed. if it gets moisture, ill put some more silicone.

it took me a while for the lights because i started with the passenger light and took my time and then with driver side, every step has been hella harder. hella harder to take the light off the car, hella harder to open it... passenger light should take about 4 hours because you have to let the paint dry and let the silicone dry once you seal it.
