Mr. 300ZXttZMAN,
I have another question that is off topic in this thread but is starting to drive me nuts on the speedometer needle and hope you or other readers have input on this, I will give quick scenario of what I have done. I am getting mixed ideas from reading the forums about this issue. My ride is a 1992 300zx TT with 90k miles on it, according to original cluster.
In 2008 when I got this car, I noticed the speedo needle was not acting correctly back then when the car would have been only 16 yrs old, the motor was shot and I decided to get a Big build done to it. It took 5 yrs to get it back up running due to finanial reasons on the cost of build along with bad economic times back then.
Anyways, when I got her up and going, the original speedo started acting up as expected right off the bat. The Odo's and everything else worked in the cluster, including power steering and cruise control, which should indicate the speed sensor is working. When I start the car, it will sit at 40-50 mph just idling in park, then goes erratic when I start to drive it.
I pulled a cluster out of my junker '90 TT car both clusters appear to be identical all features. I installed it and for a few miles, seemed to be working fine. Then the speedo needle on it started going bonkers too. I did try doing some solder touch ups on the board, according to where Greg said to re-do them. Well, I was not able to get it back working flawlessly.
What to do: Should I bite the bullet and get a new speedo gauge and circuit board ($360.00 Concept Z) and speed sensor or is there a remote possibilty that there is a wiring problem between the sensor and speedo head? When I explained the 2 speedo's both doing the same thing, a guy in Toronto at a speedometer service shop thinks I should run a individual "speaker wire" from the sensor to the cluster to confirm/elimiate a wiring problem between the two. Is this possible???
Recap: The Odo's, all other gauges in cluster, power steering, and cruise all work, so

LOL
Thanks, J.
