Hey guys, I was just cruising around your forums here and i was wondering if there was any nissan owners (240sx, 200sx, sentra) in the greenville, sc that would be interested in a friendly race? I would be glad to make all the arrangements such as location, time, video, etc. Let's make it a n/a zx2 vs. n/a nissan (one of the mentioned above). I have a 1999 ZX2 with the 2.0L. I've only had the car a year but would love to see how a fair against you guys. No turbos, n20, superchargers, or engine swaps allowed...only bolt ons. Let me know what you think. Once again, this is a friendly challenged. i'm not coming on here to flame your cars or say mine's better, yada yada yada. I have much respect for your cars and would just like some friendly competition...that's all. -Kyle:cool:

Interesting... kind of a random post, but still interesting... Too far away. I hate to get all competitive, but someone around here take him just to further prove Nissan dominance with 4cyls (SR20 powered Sentra would do the job well, but our 240 population is probably more readily available). Oh wow, I just checked Edmunds, that car weighs nothing, 2478lbs, nearly 200 less than my Sentra, dang! One has to wonder if he's got something up his sleeve though...

Nothing up my sleeve really. I've done about 150lbs weight reduction on my car, plus i've got some extensive n/a work (stock block). I just want to see how my car runs against the nissans. Let me know if i need to clarify anymore. It is an odd post, but hopefully i'll get a good response. -Kyle

I don't think anyone's going to give you the light of day unless you post a mod list. Very few around here stay N/A when trying to make big power, it's just not very easy, and reliability concerns and so forth. Anyway, 2330ish pounds is so lightweight for a presumably street-driven car it's not even really funny. I sincerely doubt anyone is going to accept the offer if you've really modded the engine too.

Yeah...our cars make 130 hp stock. Here's my list of mods:

My numbers as of last month are 175whp 165tq, i'm gettin the car back from Precision Engine (doing more work to the engine) sometime this week. He said to expect closer to 190whp range. Not too bad considering the zx2 only comes with around 100-105whp from the factory. Does that help at all? If I need to make a more extensive list i will. -Kyle

130hp stock, I checked, that's at 5750rpm. 127 torque at something like 4250rpm.

edit: Apparently he beat me to the punch on that one. 190whp from an N/A 4cyl is pretty extensive. Kinda sad, all that work and money and only 60hp gained, still commendable. Bolt ons with a good driver in an S13 should be able to compete, right? I/H/E/cams, pullies, maybe a bored out MAF or something. S13's are pretty light if I'm not mistaken.

edit again, apparently someone decided to go ahead and figure that one out for me... I'll disappear now...

No one with a NA 240 is going to race you if you are putting down those numbers. Your car is lighter than our 240's and pushing more hp than our KA. If they were NA and spraying, ok then I could see it.

You don't think anyone will race me? Wow, I didn't expect that reply. I didn't have the money to buy a nissan at the time and the zx2 seemed like the next logical answer. I'm not trying to come on here and seem all "high and mighty" saying my car is better...because i hate when people do that. But I do respect your truthful answer when you said that noone would race me. My apologies if i came across the wrong way. I'm still open for any takers though. Thanks. -Kyle

P.S. In a previous post it was quoted that it was sad that i spend all this money and only gained 60hp. If you read slowly you'll see that i'm pushing close to 190WHP. That's an 85-90+whp gain over stock...that's equivalent to over 100hp gain at the flywheel. Thanks, just wanting to make sure that you were clear and i didn't mislead you in any way.

If your open to swapped Nissan's or guys spraying, I'm sure you could get a taker. I'm just doubting any KA boys will take you on, unless it was KAT. :D

You may want to check out our 240 section. I think you will get more responses and maybe even a taker or two. But, be aware that you will more than likely get some flame job posts in there.

yeah, they get kinda 'tarded at times...

if It wasn't SC, I'd race you, but right now I'm also prone to not getting traction...

torque can be a mother at times...

I've raced a zx2 before. My friend Carl had a nice C-west body kit for it. But it was sorta ricey, too.

Anyway. I think that stock, the cars have very similar powerbands, cause we both raced stock and i came out a little ahead of him. After i put his headers and exhaust on, he wasnt much ahead of me. Its too bad i dont have the crazy n/a KA i built 2 years ago. That would give you a real run for the money.

Any of the DOHC KA guys with port/polish, I/H/E and SOHC pistons should be able to beat this guy if you run on 104 octane.

I own a both a '90 240 fb and a 98 Zx2. They are both stock(but the 240 is probably a little under spec due to previous owners'). Compared to my gf's 95 escort lx and my mom's cavalier, its a pretty powerful little machine but based on previous experience with my 240s I'd still bet one the 240. I bought my zx2 for sort of the same circumstances are you, stealthzx2, but mine was because my parents said no more imports or they wouldnt cosign, after witnessing my wreck with the 240(that rule didn't last long). Of all the USDM(GM, Ford, etc) sport compact cars I like the zx2 the best. I hope someone takes you up, should be interesting.

I almost forgot to mention that my chip is setup to allow me to run on 104-110 octane as well. It's set up for 8000 rpm...i have a n20 kit that's set up for a 35 shot, but i'm not challenging anyone to a spraying contest because i know there's a lot of you guys out there spraying WAY more than me..lol. I might try posting in the other forums like you guys told me to, but i just wanted to let you all know that except for one, you all have been very hospitable. -Kyle

Hmmm, I want this race to happen...it'd be nice to know what my girlfriends car could do if worked over :D Too bad its an auto :(

Edit: I actually really like her car, its like a frieking go kart at that weight, noticeably lighter even than my S13. Mine's faster but hers has a radio...definitely a plus. She likes how mine takes corners better though, but thats kinda to be expected.

wow, you wont get a KA near that without some MAJOR MAJOR work. i'd say a nice classic SER with a good deal of work. theres one here in dallas with lots of stuff done that runs almost a 14 flat. but its not set up for drag, mostly autoX and road racing. most 200sxs and SERs will do a high 14 with some stuff done.

NOT TRUE. If you raise comression on the KA, you get some serious power and mods done after that really push out some alot more. Talking from experience here. I had around 180 to the wheels.

right, not simple bolt on stuff the average joe can do in his garage. i know you can get some major NA power out of them, but its not something a lot of people have. i know the KAs in the racing frontiers make like 298hp and 268ft/lbs of torque, but they're carbed and not road legal.

BTW, what rods did you use and what other mods did you do after the compression was raised, IE gas, ignition, timing etc.

I don't have any rods, just ARP rod bolts. After i raised compression in the cylinder head, we set up the chip to take out some timing when using n20. We haven't really upgraded the ignition except for plugs, wires, coil. I usually run around 93+octane on a regular basis, but i will put some 104 octane in occasionally. Does that answer your question? If not, tell me what you meant and i'll try to explain further. BTW, thank you all for being polite and civil here. I tried posting the same thing on the celica boards and all they do is bash the crap outta me saying i'm doing this for self esteem and boasting rights (trying to prove something). But I'm trying to be as respectful to them as i am to you all. Just wanted to say thanks for the hospitality because it really stands out. -Kyle

By the way, he was talking to me about rods.

I forget what rods, but they were from nismoparts.com and werent really that expensive. I stayed EFI though. I had a set of 300zx injectors with discharge wires and new ignition transistor (from HKS i think?). It was a while ago, so im sketchy on it. But I had 9.1 to 1 SOHC pistons in it so compression was really high (11.5 to 1) and i burned a little oil sometimes. I had to burn 104 to make it go at all.

at least you know what you are doing stealth. i can see getting flamed if you came in here with almost nothing done, or if someone did everything and you knew nothing about the car. but you're being civil and you seem intelligent enough not to get into a flame war that one car is better than the other. i appluad you on that one. we'll find someone who can give you a good run, just dont know who...:(

Thanks you guys...just let me know. Them celica boys are sure letting me have it! lol. On top of that, they're trying to get on the zx2 boards and start a flame war. Says a lot to the maturity of the nissan crowd and for that....i applaude YOU GUYS. -Kyle
