This seriously need to be implemented. I'm sick and tired of my mom coming out and turning off the A/C in the middle of the night when I need it so I can sleep properly. If I don't have a cool room that is at least 78 degrees at night, I can't sleep. If I could have zoned climate control, I'd be seriously happy.

78 degrees? You'd freeze in my house then... I have to have it at 71 or i'm not gonna sleep good at all.

78 is warm as hell for me, lol. I'd probably kill your mom.

I must agree. My furnace only runs in the morning and evening. It will drop to high 50s on cold nights around these parts, I sleep like a rock.

I need zoned climate control in my house. It would be a zone in the form of a bubble around my wife that never drops below 85 degrees, that way she could stop complaining about being cold. When fuel oil can cost $300 a month, I am ok with her having to put on another sweater and pair of socks.

Well, now that I think about it, when I was in the Keys for all that time, 75 was what my room temp was when the outside was around 95 every day....

I'd like it a lot colder, but at least with the A/C on, I can fall asleep. Then when I'm already asleep, temperature really doesn't bother me much. I'd love to have it down to like 70, but that'd kill our electric bill. At least we're getting a cold front down here.

Maybe what you need is a fan running for the white noise.

+1
Breathing colder denser air is more efficient for your body though... probably why it likes it so much (just like an engine :) )

They already have zone climate control. It's called getting your own place and paying rent and utilities. :chuckle:

You could do something like this as well:

http://www.google.com/products/catalog? ... CHgQ8wIwAA

Its basically a single room A/C with an external condenser. Might work well for situations like yours and/or rooms that are terribly balanced. Its a bit pricey, but for situations where a home's temperatures way warmer in a particular room, it can be a simple solution. For a more short term solution, you can get one of those portable A/C units for like $400.

I am actually tempted to move out in a year once I've gotten settled in at my new job and have started full on college.

A little too pricey considering I'll be leaving this house in around two years.

My house stays at 80. I'm sure people break in while we're not here and grow ganja. Still have yet to catch them in the act.

My thermostat is 66-68F all year. Summer power bills are about $310 though.

I make my roommate use his space heater if he has a problem with it.

Dude. Can I live in your house? That sounds like the greatest temperature ever.

Random question: do you have (and use) a clothes dryer at your house?
I keep my place around 72 in the summer, and my electric bill rarely cracks $130. I turn it off during the day, and I don't own a dryer. I have a sun room that I just hang my s*** up in. Its typically dry within 2-3 hours. I also spent the money I would have otherwise spent on a dryer on a badass washing machine.

If I turned the AC off during the day, I'd be really hot! When summer ends, my electric bill drops to $95.

The latter option is not out of reach for most people. And zone climate control is likely to require quite a bit of hardware to work correctly. Valves, sensors, wiring, the controller, etc. Not to mention installation of this hardware. And as far as I can tell, the set-up in the link is just programmed to help balance the output. You'ld probably want a system that can apply the A/C to specific rooms. The hardware would be mostly the same, but you'll likely need to find or write code specifically for this. Otherwise, your mom may turn it off regardless...

I would NEVER remove A/C. I refuse to. I don't care how much weight reduction I wanna do. My car keeps A/C. Period. I live in goddamn Florida. F*ck not having A/C. That doesn't fly down here.

My family only ever owned one car with A/C when I lived in Florida. It wasn't until ~highschool that this occured. I only owned 1 car with working a/c while I lived there, too.

I drove my S12 around Florida all day long and in 100 degree weather the whole time without A/C, it's not like you absolutely have to have it there... Man up! But you do need water.

This.

It doesn't matter if I'm wearing anti-perspirant, my pits get mad when it's hot out. So does my head, but that's for obvious reasons.
