i emailed that fella you mentioned so I will pick up a bottle. how do you apply it? by hand or with an orbital?

also, what kind of tire dressing is recommended? i use a cheaper Eagle One spray, but it gets all over my wheels and then the brake dust (although its not alot) gets on it and sticks. just something from an auto parts house is fine with me.

I would advise you to wash your car very good with Dawn. Yes....Dawn. It should remove any oils and road grime. Dry your car, then apply the Zaino with a soft cotton applicator and let it dry. There again, just a thin coat. Usually when I apply my Zaino, you can hardly tell anything is on the car. Let it dry at least 30 minutes then remove it. I usually do that on a Satuday, then do a second coat the next day. I need to get a 3rd coat on Z-Bo. I will probably get at least 5 coats on there then probably wax it about every 6 months. A good spring and fall coat.

:)

Now....don't wash your car in Dawn again. Get a good gentle car wash.

i apply by hand. like 370z/28 said, you apply such a thin layer, it's almost pointless and impossible to use an orbital buffer. any soft microfiber applicator pad will work. i do this every 3 months. as far as car wash, first time, use Dawn as mentioned to strip off any old wax. now i use ONR (Optimum No Rinse) car wash.

:ohno: Oh, noes. Not the tire dressing question!

IIRC, Miz B got an earload of advice on that not long ago, so she can probably spare some. Everything from brake fluid to xylene.

Basically anything you spray onto the tire is going to end up on the wheels, whence it will pick up dirt. Whatever I use, I put an old sock over my hand and spray it on that, then rub on the tires. Keeps the initial application off the wheels, and unless you put it on really thick minimizes the "sling" effect.

I don't like shiny tires, so I tend to use "natural finish" Armorall mixed with Mothers Back to Black (about 5:1). I also ran across a fairly new Eagle One gel-type protectant that works well on tires and weathered trim, and is a sort of satin shine, not too gaudy.

oh yeah, i use a tire wipe thing for tire dressing. never spray directly on the tire. also, i usually swipe the tires first and let it sit while i do the rest of the car. that way, it's pretty much dry when i go to drive it and doesn't sling all over my car.

thanks for the tips. this last time, sprayed on the tire then swiped around the tire to tub it in. next time i will spray it on a sock. there are a few rough spots in my paint from rocks, etc. and old bug residue that never would come off. what do you recommend for this? in late summer when the "love bugs" are out, i use simplegreen to get them up and that works well.

i am thinking of using a compound to get the hardened mess that wouldnt come off. any thoughts?

Ooh baby....Simple Green is awfully strong to be using on paint.

:ohno:

Try a clay bar (a good one) or a clear coat safe rubbing compound. Keep lots of good coats of wax on there to keep that from happening again.

And remember, if you drop that clay bar on the ground, it's history. Don't try to wash it off and use it again, it will tear up your finish, you can't get the grit out.

For old bug residue, Mother's Cleaner Carnauba works well for me, I just use it on the spots, not the whole car. Won't polish out the chips, though. Then Dawn and claybar if you're going to use Zaino.

Fair....I like Clay Magic better. It is bigger and you can cut it in 1/2 or 1/3 and just use what you need and save the rest.

Bought a Mothers kit in Feb, and it had two bars. I did the car twice with one of them and about half the included detailer/lube, for what it's worth. But the Z-girl used to show cars, so she probably has more experience with the stuff, I don't know anything about Clay Magic.

When I first got my G (it was black), I got stuck on a road where they were painting the stripe. I was being very careful to stay between the lines, but the A-H in front of me kept going in and out of the wet paint and getting it all over the road. I ended up with yellow paint ALL OVER the side of my car. Took me 2 clay bars and a whole afternoon to get it all off. They work really good.

Just remember like someone said before. Don't drop it on the ground. If you do, you have to throw it away. Debris would get embedded in the clay and you could really damage your paint.

My car club calls me the Queen of Clean.

What are you using, Biggie? I can do the whole car in about 20min with Collinite 845. Now, my fondly remembered '95 Q45, that was some sheet metal!

I too used Meguiar's Gold Carnuba. Arm was just tired from other car work the 2 days before.

Used electric buffer to remove, one bonnet for hood/roof/trunk, one bonnet for both sides/bumpers, then a fresh one over the whole car to ensure there was no smears/swirls.

Took about an hour and half to apply and remove wax, along with terry towel to remove excess from glass/seams.

I had to pull it out of the garage yesterday to mow, so pollen got it already, but I'll drive it to work Wed/Thurs, so that will completely cover it yellow again.

pollen is gone down here in Florida, but the bugs are out now. especially when the sun goes down.

I do not have a whole lot of experience waxing, but i noticed that the carnauba seems a bit thinner than normal wax. it applied very nice.

i am excited to use my Zaino when it comes in.

i did my whole car inside of 30 min and i didnt use an orbital.

biggie, you must have be taking beer breaks.

I take my time and do small things. Took a while anyway since I washed outside then let the car sit in the garage for a couple hours to cool down.

If I hadn't been so tired I would have detailed the wheels (these 19"s are pissin me off with dirt between lip and spokes). And should have cleaned the interior, is dusty on the dash.

I used some ScratchX before waxxing Saturday as well. Had some small scratches due to people leaning against car during tailgating.

In my case I let them lean against, just didn't think about the metal on their jeans (girls).

But all I have is 2 door cars, so I never have to drive people. When I had Pathfinder/Versa that was a different story.

Can't believe Timmy didn't say this, so....

Next time they want to lean on your car, tell 'em they have to take the jeans off.

Oh, wait, I'm probably old enough to be their grandfather......
