Cool build thread. Everyone in drifting has a V8, but I'm glad this still retains a VG.

Thanks. Im aiming to dis-prove the "drifter" theory that z32's are a bad drift car and VG30's suck.. I already know that this is fiction not fact, but most are still skeptical. I love telling people that i used to drift an RB s13 before the Z, and i actually like the Z better. At least in most aspects. Their a little overpriced to become a popular drift car, but i like that.

Rebirth_Z: They use V8s because, generally, they have nearly the same torque throughout the entire powerband.

skywhine: A twin turbo is definitely the way to go if staying six cylinder because the way the torque comes in earlier and remains more-or-less consistent. I was considering a RB26 (like everyone drools over), but after seeing how it dynos with a big honking turbo, if I'm swapping a motor it'll definitely be an aluminum v8, naturally aspirated. Until then, I'm happy to beat on the vg30.

It comes down to application really. A proper drift car ins't ideal for drag, a proper drag car isn't ideal for autocross, etc. All aspects (engine, transmission, suspension, brakes, etc) come together for a build, but I wonder how many people actually have a real goal at the end other than 'moar power'.

It's not a tune as much as it's a parameter edit to get the car to idle and drive. A tune, a real dyno tune with A/F measurement and knock control/monitoring will give you the most potential from your car, safely.
Ok so you say dyno tuning is a must. My only concern is the factory ECU. If i wanted dyno tuning i would need an ECU that is adjustable/tuneable. Correct me if i am wrong but the factory ecu is not. Therefore i would need $2000 worth of standalone, which i am not against, but for now its not on my priorty list.

Thanks
It isn't tunable without a daughterboard... There are plenty of options cheaper than a standalone. Nistune is a nice option from what I've read... Plenty of people doing lots of HP with the stock ECU (just different maps/params)...

For now I'm just going to get an EPROM, I already have the socketed ECU with a Jwt chip. So I'll just get the chip for 740cc, single intake(maybe dual we will see) 91 octane, and run 18-20 psi on a set of gt28rs's, which I will be purchasing soon. 2/3 there cash wise.

Hoping for around 500whp on stock heads with the EPROM, we will see. Then when I need more build the heads and get a haltech. Oh and of course all the other breather mods.
