stock ka24de, i try to run 91 whenever i can...but with these gas prices, depending on what i have in my wallet i may go with 89 or sometimes even the dreaded 87 which is honda gatorade...lol

doesnt seem to make such a diff, but im sure the engine appreciates it. my baby has 169k miles on her so im not gonna feed her any crap, less chance of detonation is always good.....and RIGHT ON THE GAS DOOR it says "use premium fuel for maximum performance" probably there for a reason.

Even though premium is recommended, I think the manual still says 87 is the ok minimum. And since gas is so ridiculously expensive here in CA, I use 87, save the premium for forced induction.. At my last fillup I paid $2.60 per gallon (of 87). If only all those rich idiots would stop buying hummers, suburbans, and excursions, there might be some gas for the rest of us.. Oh, and I average about 23 mpg mixed, on long road trips I have gotten 30-31 mpg

I usually run 91 octane in my ka24de and I usually get around 20 miles to the gallon, but last week I ran 93 octane shell gas (*I usually get gas elsewhere) and so far I have gotten 210 miles on 8 gallons of gas, and I'm not done yet. So I've gotten 26 miles to a gallon already. I reset the odometer (whatever that little things called) every time I get gas, and make a mental note of how many gallons of gas I get. I like the 93 better.

about a year ago during the summer I did a test to see which octane gave me the best mpg (for the sake of my wallet) I found that I got slightly better milage the higher the octane that I put in it... But I also found that the difference from the mid-grade '89 to the premium '91-'93 wasn't a large enough difference to justify the 10 cents higher cost. But the '89 was leaps and bounds better than the '87 (well I'd say about 3 mpg better) it made the difference of filling up about every week on '87 to filling up every week and a half on the '89..... So that is why I choose to use the mid-grade. This could just be for my car and there could be a number of different fastors that play into why I've seen these results. But as I've said before, I'm getting right around 20-24 mpg on '89 driving mostly city miles.

FYI, just got 26.3MPG, about 1/2 tank highway, ~70MPH, and 1/2 city driving on Exxon '93.

Ill spend the extra ~$3 a tank for premium and piece of mind. It's not that much more expensive

When's the last time you changed the O2 sensor? Also do you have do emissions testing? Those numbers can sometimes help to diagnose poor MPG results. BTW I'd just get an OEM one from Nissan, they're only about $65-70(which is cheap BTW compared to some OEM O2 sensors).

I've been using 93 oct. since I got the car 3 weeks ago.

Best mileage was 27mpg after I changed the plugs, wires, dist. cap & rotor, oil & filter, and a K&N drop-in filter.

I got about 23mpg my last two tanks with a lot of city driving.

92 pump octane with mineral spirits and xylene at times.

12mpg and running lean, 270cc injectors maxed now running 460's going staged in a couple months (8 injectors).

So yeah, I drive my corolla a lot.

93 octane, always... lest my motor blow up.

Gas mileage too depressing to keep track of.

Same here. Its not so much depressing though, its more that I just don't care. I fill up to 1/2 way when I get to a little less than a 1/4 left and that lasts me an entire week because my job is 4 miles away and I only go to class ( 20miles round trip) about once or twice a week. I don't know why people complain about gas prices, they're not bad when you have a 4 banger.

91 octane, since that all that Cali has to offer and I get about 20-22 depending on how heavy my foot is feeling that day.

In miami the highest we can get is 93. In my bone stock S14 however, its 87 all week. I can't even keep track of mpg, just fill it up when it needs it. No need for any higher if the car is stock, the compression isn't high enough to take advantage of the higher octane, and by law, no octane can be "healthier" or "clean your engine better" than any other octane. So unless you have a turbo pushing 300+HP, theres no real need for it.

Octane has no effect on mileage. Only heat content of the fuel does, and the only fuels that can cause lower mileage will be those oxygenated blends (or Ethanol). Basically, if your municipality doesn't have stronger emissions laws like we see in California you are likely to get better mileage than those people.

I use 87.

1995 240sx with 185k miles, 100k or so on engine... bad knock sensor, bad emissions sensor (somewhere, possibly 02) and 30-35mpg (I shift at 2200-3000 rpm)
