What up NIcoClub... im in the market for some lowering springs. I just CANT stand stock ride height anymore! I feel like im driving a monster truck! I cant afford coilovers yet, but i need something in the mean time. Anyway ive been looking at eibach springs(pro-kit, and sportline), tein s techs, megans, ksport, etc. Im looking for springs that adds a good drop to my S13, but im also looking for stiffness and better handling! Im not going to upgrading my struts. Im just looking for your opinion on the best S13 springs... and why??? Thanks

Dont waste your time/money on springs unless you find some used ones on struts already for like $75 or something. Thats what i did when i had my s14 with some knock off tein S techs and they only brought the car down about an inch and a half, but it rode awesome and took out some of the body roll. I payed $75 total, and it was a hell of a lot easyer than replacing the spring on the stock strut since it came with springs, but it definatley would not have been worth the $200 something dollars to buy the springs brand new

honestly though, you should just save your money and buy some used coilovers. I got my D2's used for $500 and they sell for $900 new. I absolutely love them for the money i payed.

Nah, if i buy coilovers which i will eventually... i want them to be brand new not used. Because they are expensive, and if you buy them off someone it voids the factory warranty and automatically expires! Just if anything goes wrong. Yea ill buy some used springs/struts off someone if they have them for a good price, but if i cant find some im gonna get some new springs, and my friend can help me install them!

Tein S Tech, Eibach, are good. I have RS*R drop springs on kyb agx's and theyre pretty nice. if you get a good strut and spring combo it will hold you over for a long time until you can buy some good coils

Springs + struts = waste of money. Unless you're talking about a full Koni + Ground Control sleeve setup.

You're going to spend about $500 for brand new struts and springs. Why not save about $300 more for decent entry level coilovers like Megan's or something?

Maybe in some cases. It depends on what you want, what your looking for, what you need, and what you have in your wallet.

^F that my car is low as you can go without scraping frame on the reg.
kyb agx and Eibach sportlines IIRC that's is what is on my daily coupe. Its the lowest you can go before coils and it still has camber issues but not so bad you need to correct right away but a nice suspension set will be your future. I think its slightly over 1.5 inch drop, and if you want slam go for coils.

*pretty sure you can look at my sig for what to expect if you want more pics I can supply At request,

Actually I was paying very close attention. I added in the price of struts because I know if you put lowering springs on your stock struts, you'll blow them in no time.

Soooo... unless you've already got aftermarket performance struts & shocks, you might wanna add them into your budget or just jump straight to coilovers. That is, unless you like doing the same thing 2 and 3 times over...

Nah, i got a buddy with eibach sportlines(one of the lowest springs) and oem struts... he has had them on his coupe for 4 years now! No blown struts! I would buy his sportlines, but he dont wanna sell them!

I also have Eibach Sportlines with Tokico Blues on my S14.
1)Sportlines aren't that low. Pro's are lower, I believe.
2)Tokico Blues are engineered for a comfy ride and are considered OEM replacements. Two of them blew with in 6 months. Thank god I had a warranty.

Take that chance on a 2.2 inch drop if you want. Your friend's results are not common.

No the sportlines are lower then the pro-kits! And Tokico Blues arent OE replacement, they are an upgrade! Idk why 2 of your struts blew... but im pretty sure it wasnt because of the 2.2 inch drop!?

Ok man. I'm not gonna debate something wholly inconsequential to me. I just frown on buying parts and planning on replacing them again down the road from experience.

Simmode is right. Tokico Blues and KYB GR2s are OE replacements.

His struts blew because they were OE standards and the valving was not built for the change in spring rate that the lowering spring has. This combined with the strut "bottoming out" (because of the lower stance) wore out the seals and blew the struts.

I have some sportline's on my car, not sure what struts though. I will post some pics tomorrow. Pretty decent drop, I'll be putting them up for sale but not for a couple months.

If you're gonna buy coilovers later, don't waste your money on a pricey spring/strut setup. Just get some damn no-name ebay springs(not coil sleeve) and run them on your stock strut. Don't buy something for $200+ if you're gonna replace it. Just spend $70 on ebay and call it a day.

It's a spring. That's it.

It's a 240SX, not a Ferrari. I have used these "cheapy" springs on so many of my friends 240's, mk3's, etc. It holds them over just fine until they have the dough to buy the real deal (coilovers).

Okay a few issues.... Use the multi-quote too, your post are annoying because there are so many. Second read about the tokiko blue and you will find out that they dont recommend using lowering springs greater than two inches. The reason is they blow both literally and by expression. Third you will not get low at all, but certain spring strut combo feel awesome. If you don't care about not being low at all I suggest KYB AGX and tein S-Techs. They will run about 650-750 bucks, but they feel awesome. Koni Yellows are a great option for building your own coilover, but I don't think this is the direction you want to take.

^^^So much wisdom... I have strut/spring setups on 2 out 3 of my 240's. And I wish I had a) not let ppl talk me out of the coilovers I really wanted; and b) not cheaped out and just gone with coils from the start.

My first S13 has had the S-Tech/AGX combo on it for years now. It's money in the bank. Handles great. But the drop looks like a$$. For $650 - $750, thats close to entry level coilover price. But Imma stop beating a dead horse now. I'm actually surprised that this thread has made it this far.

Agreed I bought AGX and S-Tech in 2006 and it was an awesome feel, but it looked horrible

Ok cool thanks... i was always very hesitant of buying ebay parts(other than like intakes and exhausts) but if you have used these m2 springs with no problems... maybe ill give them a try until i get coilovers.

Honestly, im surprised that its gone this far as well! Its very clear what i asked for from the beginning, and everyone completly jumps off topic and goes to spring/strut combo, or coilovers! Very few people here have told me what i needed to know! I did more research on the tokico blues and you were right about them being oe replacement. But i did see a few people say that lowering springs on them are fine.

im 95% sure my s13 came with those ebay springs.. on blown struts

so it felt like garbage..

i understand that its "just a temp" but why even waste the $100? just save it and you will have coils $100 sooner.. if money is an issue, than why waste what you have on "temp" parts? i dont get it..

Money isnt an issue (usually) im in between jobs now. I just cant stand stock ride height. Within a month ill have another job again... then ill start saving for coilovers... so if i do get these ebay garbage springs, they shouldnt be on my car longer than 2-3 months!
