I'm not saying this because this is a nissan infiniti board, but I absolutely love the Nissan Maxima. I sat in one at a dealership and it was all I could do to get bak out.

I like the infiniti g35 but could never buy it knowing that a maxima is in the same price range and IMO so much more car.

What ONE new sedan would you get if you had 35k only?

I'm not sure what justifies a statement like that...

The G35 is built on a better chasisIs RWDIs a 4 door 350Z basically..

Now the new maxima is Newer, so it has some features, the G doesn't (better sound/skyroof/etc)

It's funny all the car reviewers, everyone I talk to etc, lists the price as a problem for the maxima, not the G..

IE while the maxima is great, it's now the same price as a G, so why not just buy the G.

To each his own, I'm not hating/bashing..

If you want the drivers car out of the two, the choice is clear..

can't stand FWD cars....I hate being pulled around town. I rather be pushed around from the rear....also IMHO....RWD is just plain better now that traction control systems are so advanced taking away one of the main purposes for developing FWD.

you guys never mentioned the sedan you would get for 35k. I dont want this to be a g35 vs maxima thread.

but, the reason that they think the maxima is overpriced is that the name MAXIMA supposedly ought not invoke the prestige pricing that the infinitis et al enjoy.

I think of a maxima as an inexpensive lexus. THe interior comfort and finish is world class, and for a big guy like me, the interior was spacious without being boatish.

I also heard that those maximas can haul.

I say the maxima is arguably the driver's car. Unless it is a woman who enjoys the more compact size.

you mirror my thoughts exactly. Now that the G and maxima are the same price, why buy a G? other than the infiniti namebadge that adorns it

well since you asked about sedans for under 35K....None Period!!! I was looking for a new car in December & January seriously and the only cars that I could find to my liking were at least 40K and up. I have not had a car payment for over 4 years and the thought of getting into another 60 month payment at 600+ per month was something that I was not ready for...so I decided to keep the Q and sink about 10-15K into it...totally redoing it...mods, interior, paint job, stereo...and at the end I would not have a car payment. Yes there are some pluses and minuses to keeping the Q and pouring over 10K into a car that is only worth 8K on the streets at best, but I am having fun getting my Q modified and it will make a very good second car within the next year as my next car will be a very sporty 2 seater convert...so when I need to entertain more than 1 guest...the Q is the choice.

Sorry...just ain't anything new for me under $35K that I would consider. Maybe if I already had a car payment this would be a different story for me.

Tough call if one is a consumer that will wind up only with about a 10% discount on a new car or has no access to deeply disounted auction cars.

I start with what I like & would work backwards until a hotly debated, old school fist-on-the-table-or-I'm-gonna-walk-out type deal is struck at a dealer.

My Dad was the master. I used to get so embarrassed as a kid.

So to answer the question, if I may use a used car, the Q, M45, Marauder (25-28k new), perhaps a new GTO/Chevelle, (can't argue with an LS1), new TL, all should be able to be had for the price mentioned.

Are you KIDDING ME?

That is one helluva ignorant statement... Check yourself nissan fan boy..

Maxima=FWDG35=RWD

FWD IS NEVER OPTIMAL. IT IS NEVER AN ENTHUSIANTS CHOICE.

EVEN FWD FLAG WAVERS LIKE HONDA MAKE THEIR REAL CARS RWD... S2000 and NSX

Sorry for the caps, but come on.

The MAxima is a very nice car with a great interior arguably better than the G's.

Since I was just in the market for a 35 or under sedan my choice should be clear. I defintely like the Maxima but simply couldn't see spending the same money as the g35.

As far as calling the FWD Maxima more of a enthusiast car than the RWD G35 that is simply absurd.

Sure is, wanna know why?

The G is a drivers car.. They had to skimp a little on the interior, to pack all the drivers car feel into it..

You can call the maxima a nice car.. you can say it has better interior..

You CAN'T say it's a nicer drivers car.. that's hogwash.

Until the maxima is RWD, don't even try to compare to the G.

The Maxima is one heck of a car. But the 03 model I drove had horrid torque steer.

Around 30-35k, I'd have my eyes on the G35, Cadillac CTS, Lincoln LS, or I'd save a few grand and get a loaded Mazda 6.

Jesda,

All new nissans do.. The VQ is simply way to much power for a FWD chasis.. I like nissan blah blah, but all the fanboys can't cover the fact: The VQ=torque steer

Rather it's the Nissan Altima 3.5or the Infiniti I35or the Nissan Maxima

They are all packed with nasty torque steer.. If nissan keeps increasing the power of the VQ, they are going to have to address the torque steer issue..

Same with acura.. The new TL has torque steer in gobs.. You can't escape it.. There is no tech that can hide torque steer. It's there, it's nasty.

Driving fast 101: It's never optimal to have the power going to the wheels that steer. Period.

I never said that the MAXIMA is the enthusiast's car.

In this showdown, the G35 will ultimately emerge as the enthusiast's car.

With the subjective definitions of "driver's car" however, the maxima can arguably emerge as the driver's car among the two.

For me, a driver's car is the one that offers more comfort. The maxima UNARGUABLY offers more comfort than the g35

I agree that the Maxima is a larger, more comfortable car. The interior is really nice, offering a sort of techno-urban look. Lots of features, tons of style, and $35k loaded with -EVERYTHING- (Navigation, etc) is hard to argue with.

The Maxima would be a top choice for a quick straight-line cruiser with more room for extra people. The G35 wins over luxury enthusiasts (that pop-up screen is just too cool) and semi-purists (RWD) like myself.

Theyre both driver's cars -- but what kind of driving are you doing?

In terms of looks, here's how I rank them:Lincoln LS (class)G35/Maxima (sport)Cadillac CTS (bold)

The Maxima is supposed to compete with the Mazda 6, Taurus, Impala, Malibu, Accord, Alero, Camry. When you compare the spec sheets to the competition, the Maxima wins. Hundreds of thousands of Americans specifically SEEK front-drive sedans.

So comparison of the Maxima to anything else besides the above is like apples and oranges.

"Hundreds of thousands of Americans specifically SEEK front-drive sedans"

Because they are stupid. FWD is not safer.. I wish I had the link to the top gear comparison between FWD/AWD/RWD..

It was basically a comparison on avoiding a teddy bear.. needless to say RWD was the only one that safely cleared the bear.. FWD nailed it dead on..

FWD sucks.

It's the trump card which ruins many nice cars.. Sure the acura TL is one nice car.. but it's FWD.. All the great features of the car are ultimately trumped by FWD..

I guess if you like driving in a straight line, you're ok with that..

I hate to continue this arguement, but I'm going to anyway

"The maxima UNARGUABLY offers more comfort than the g35"

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...=6400

How can you say the interior is nicer? It has the same screen layout as Infinitis..

Sorry nissans never have nicer interiors then infinitis..

They may have equal quality, but not nicer..

Also, ARGUEABLY the pop up screen nav is more "techno" then some bland screen, you have to deal with all the time..

Sorry nissan fanboys.. But the G35 is a better drivers car.. a better enthusiasts car.. Better in every way.. BOOM

What would you rather have?

Nissans flagship ChasisZero Lift aerodynamicsA 4 door 350z, that WINS all comparison, even with BMWs

or a FWD car with massive amounts of torque steer.. Oh yeah you can get a skyroof!!!! That's so AWESOME, A SKYROOF!!! WOOHOO.

So a torque steering unsporty car.. or a 4 door 350z, that completely resurected Infinit..

The G35 will outhandle out brake out accelrate the Maxima..

You can compare a maxima to a camry, but don't even tyr to compare it to the G.. sorry nissan fanboys, but sit down, and remember where you rank in the lineup..

Nissan INFINITI.. not the other way around

all new nissan-infiniti interiors look and feel low rent compared to their cars of years ago, even the top q interior.sorry to admit, but the lexus, and audi - volkswagen interiors are superior to the cheap, hard plastic trash nissan is putting in all their new models.

Before I purchased my G35 I looked test drove the CTS and TL. I looked at the Lincoln LS and a used audi A6.

I simply didn't like the LS looks wise. Very dated interior IMO. The audi was nice but I prefered to buy new and a new A6 was out of price range. I test drove the CTS and didn't handle/accelerate nearly as well as the G35. Also I like the G's interior better at under 35K. The CTS's premium package runs almost 6k.

FYI the latest edition of Motor Trend did a 4 car comparision and the the g35 beat both the CTS and TL even though the price as tested was thousands more for the CTS and TL.

This should be considered a debate not an argument, but that's symantics.

Let's agree that different people have different needs and there's a chance that any given car may be right or wrong for someone.

I think the point that's trying to be made, is that for most of the driving population (let's admit their skills are questionable at best) the benefit of RWD is not "realized". If anything in poor weather/road conditions, RWD would be a detriment for most of the lesser skilled driving population.

That being said, maybe this (above average knowledge and skill) is the wrong group to see any FWD car as "good".

QSHIP,

Hopefully the NEW M45 will buck the interior trend.. It looks to have a very fresh and unique interior (from pictures) Of course you can't tell the quality until you sit/feel it yourself.
