"Nice car, too bad you didn't get Manual."

I got this, compliment(?) 3-4x since I picked her up.

Anyways, what did you get? CVT or Manual, why? Did the Cost played part in your decision?

I went with CVT (as did my sister, she has the 2.5S).

I've been driving Automatics and hated it so I took a 1 hour lesson from Young Drivers Canada back when I had my '99 Pontiac Grand AM/V6 and didn't get it ONLY because SportShift (Triptronic, etc.) was available when I got my '02 Acura RSX. I guess laziness plays a part too.

6 Speed because I prefer cars I drive to be manual. More control of the car and its more enjoyable to drive. I guess cost was a plus that it was less but definitely not because CVT was more.

come to LA/OC and you'll see why it's such a hassle to drive a Stick shift. I use the CVT most of the time, then when I wanted a little bit of power, just shift to Manual Good enough for me

I definitely wouldn't generalize like that. To each his own. It depends on where you live, what car you have, how you drive, past experience, etc. There are many factors that make up a decision to go with manual or automatic. I myself enjoy manual transmissions very much and drive them every year in Europe. For my daily commuting in LA, automatic is the way to go.

i wanted a 6 speed soo bad! but on the 4th of July my CVT was the only 3.5se they had. didn't want to wait cuz i just wrecked my SUV and didn't want my dad to think twice about buying me the A/C (he was in a good mood that day). i LOVE stick shift cuz it feels soooo much faster!!! gives you more control, can take more power.... the only down side to stick shift is traffic. but i'm happy with my CVT, it's better then a regular automatic and i love my car.... just wish CVT would support that Turbo kit that was at the SEMA show lol

I owned an automatic once. ONCE being the key word.

I want total control over my engine like I want total control over the world

I personally think anyone unable to drive a manual transmission should not be allowed a drivers license.

I can start rifling off countries that agree with me if needed.

You should go into politics and make that a law.

I like manual transmissions, but for a daily driver I prefer auto.My baby will eventually become a daily; but hopefully not for at least a couple years. Plus, its just more convenient. Someday when I can afford to have a bunch of toys, then I'll buy me some manual sports cars!

This is my first automatic transmission. I've always been in the sport compact scene since a teenager; however, now that I'm older, I see no need in a manual transmission anymore. At least not in my daily commuter that is. I actually enjoy the convenience of the CVT, with the option to "shift" my own gears when I feel the need. When driving, I'm usually always either on the phone, eating (I'm always eating something), mixing protein powder, etc., so the CVT comes in very handy. I do miss driving stick more than I thought I would though. Oh well, life goes on. No regrets on getting the CVT because I still do have my truck and Bulldog Jeep

CVT..... I use Cruse Control alot and have to traverse many hills. It would drive my Nissan Sentra Automatic nuts and me also when I encountered one it would down shift and the RPM would jump up to and sometimes over 3,000 and it would jerk the car. But with CVT all I notice is just a slight increase in RMP like 200 or 300 depending on the hill and I feel absolutly nothing. Then coming down a hill the Engine along with the CVT uses Engine Braking to slow the Coupe. So IMO the CVT rocks...

I have CVT in the 3.5se. For me, I love the technology behind the CVT. I love the feel of accelerating for as long as I want without having to worry about when the engine is going to shift. I love that I can pound on the gas at any moment, at any speed, and get a good amount of power without being in a situation where the rpms are too high to downshift, but too low to get maximum torque.

I'm a geek, and I've heard geeks are often all about the mt (and I can certainly drive a manual when needed), but I think the cvt is just a more elegant and efficient solution. When I'm writing a program I always go for the solution that allows infinite variations.

And for people who are talking about how they love the control of a MT, that's great, but you have to admit that you are still limited in the same way that all fixed-gear-ratio transmissions are limited. And you don't necessarily have "total control". Do you disable the traction control and anti-lock brakes too? Some of this stuff actually does a better job than you could ever do on your own. I'm not saying the CVT is better in every way, but again, I think it's more elegant and extremely good at what it does.

I see you're new to the forum , but I hope your user name is not a premonition of things to come.... In any case, you live in Tampa, Fl...cute, but after living and driving in DC and Atlanta (two of the worst cities regarding rush hour traffic), I would hate to have to drive a stick in either of those two cities.

Also, generalities and blanket statements are often symptoms of a lack of depth, understanding, and flexibility! "I personally think anyone unable to drive a manual transmission should not be allowed a drivers license."

Nobody said that. Some people just do not like the combination that is made by a manual transmission and traffic. Some do. Simple as that.

CVT, too lazy to drive manual as a daily driver like most. driving manual is fun, and no problem, but i'll have a separate toy to do that with, or do it when needed.. as above traffic, manual, and a daily eater while driving does not mix for me.

A manual-lover's response would be: you can always steer with your knees.

i got a cvt because it was all that was available at the time where i lived, dont regret it yet because once im 100% sick of it all i have to do is lay down some money and get it changed into a manual.... its not as pricey as people believe and i can also put in a better transmission then the a/c comes with. not to mention im not really sick of it yet due to the fact that ive raced a couple 350z's and g35's just fun and they pushed their car as hard as they could and it always came down to who had the better jump, only lost by a bumper or won by a bumped. so it really doesnt make that big of a dif

6M/T because I prefer driving manuals (except when towing) of course you don't getthe option of a stick in any 1/2 ton gas trucks anymore.

Biggest complinet, "Wow, that's an Altima "Nissan makes some really good looking cars", and "Nice car, what kind is it?"

Hmm, I've heard folks comment about how much faster the G35 is than the A/C! while this is apparently true for the '07 G35 manual (293hp), I just realized that the '07 G35 automatics had only 275 HP.... I wonder how this would pan out with the injen intake on the A/C. Probably about dead even huh? You may be able to crank out and extra 5 horses with an intake in the cold early morning! Just a thought.

I know the torque is slightly higher in the '07 G35 automatics also, but I would think the intake would slightly help that out also! So although the new VQ37VHR on the G37 is a bit out of competition, '07 and earlier model G35's are fair game...hmmm

Manual all the way!!! So much more fun to drive! IMO, if the car has a sporty look to it, then it should be a stick-shift, period.

My first car was an automatic, but after that all stick-shifts. Automatics are boring, and the CVT's sport-shift option definately didn't "do it" for me.

My entire family drives stick shifts. We now only have 2 cars that are automatic, and it wasn't by choice. One is a company car, and we won the other one.

I live in Philadelphia, so I do get some pretty bad traffic at times. But it is worth it! The choice was a no-brainer. The wait was 10 weeks for the order, I probably could have gotten it sooner if I wanted CVT, but the wait was definately worth it.

And I love being part of the minority... rare azure blue color and stick-shift.

Hey mcheddadi,

I like the "6MT" emblem on the back of your car. Did you photoshop that on there? Or is it an actual emblem?

Oops, I have the sedan... Got the CVT because I'm in stop and go traffic to and from work and really learned to hate a clutch when I had a little Nissan P/U. Drove our Xterra w/ auto for a few years before trading it in on the Altima and swore I would never go back.

Everything you said makes perfect sense about the Altima and G35. The cars are on the same basic platform - but I usually get on some AC owners Kinder Softer Side when I compare the 2. The main difference is the drivetrain orientation - In terms of pure performance - like a manual transmission, Rear Wheel Drive gives you more control.

Here are the specs for the Auto and Manual

Engine G35 Coupe G35 Coupe 6MT Type VQ35DE DOHC 24-valve Orientation Vertical Cylinders / configuration V6 with molybdenum coated pistons Block / head composition Aluminum / aluminum Displacement 3.5 liters Horsepower 275 @ 6,200 rpm 293 @ 6,400 rpm Torque (lb-ft) 268 lb-ft @ 4,800 rpm 258 lb-ft @ 4,800 rpm Bore & stroke (mm) 95.5 x 81.4 Compression ratio (:1) 10.3 Maximum engine speed 5AT/6MT 6,600 rpm 7,000 rpm Induction system Sequential multi-point fuel injection Valvetrain 4 valves per-cylinder Mounts (sides/rear) 2/1 Fuel type Premium unleaded (recommended) Emissions system Closed loop feedback system with 3-way catalyst Emission certification level 50 State, LEV2 Exhaust Straight, one on each side with dual chrome finisher

As for Stick vs. Auto. - You are always gonna get asked if your car is a stick if it is a coupe or sports car. My car is a commuter car so auto was the way to go for me. Sticks are cool but I think they become a chore for day in day out driving.

Back in the day when I used to buy hoopties I would always look for a stick because - that way you knew if you had to replace the transmission - it would only be the cost of the clutch for the stick vs. a transmission for the auto.

Good Luck
