alright guys, i need some help. today is my last day before the meet on saturday. i swapped out a full ka24de+transmission to my automatic convertible. the install was a piece of cake, but now it will crank over but with a loud howling and screetching noise.

Spark: I took each wire out and placed another spark plug there and ground it, as i turn the motor i see spark in each wire.

Fuel: I reviewed numerous engine shots plus the FSM and the fuel lines are plugged in correctly. There is noticeable amount of unburn fuel at the exhaust while i was cranking.

Ground: I went through every single ground listed on the FSM and they are all nice and solid

Battery: i have three battery at home, two used and one brand new Gel Packed battery. still doesn't make a difference.

Distributor: First off, i drove the car before the motor got yanked out of my friends car. It started fine and it drove fine so i doubt it's the distributor. Welp, my friend loosen the distributor and cocked it in different location to see if it will work. As he is cranking and i am moving the distributor slowly, every now and then i will hear about two power stroke and thats it.

Wiring: Went through the wiring countless times. everything is connected. Nothing has been damaged during the swap.

Starter: Starter was working fine but i still pulled it out to bench test it on the machine. It passed everything in the machine.

So that's all i pretty much have checked and done. If any, and i mean anyone could help i really appreciate it. I'm trying to get it done since it's like my last day before the big meet. Thanks guys for even taking the time to this.

Not the most experianced guy here but I would start with these sounds. I have never heard Screeching and Howling from a car that was a "good" sound. As you heard the engine run prior to the swap and it made no noise I would think when you did the swap something did not line up correctly.I think if you trace the sound you will find the problem.

Good luck

well i did timing and the weird cranking went away. so now the car cranks like a normal car but it won't catch but just keeps cranking. again i have fuel and spark. whats new is that the ecu put out code 12 which is air flow circuit. i borrowed my friends MAF sensor and nothing changed. does anyone know if code 12 (air flow circuit) relates to anything else other than the maf sensor?

Try starting it with the MAFs unplugged, also, try using starting fluid, you may have flooded it.

YOu can try starting fluid, but if it already has fuel that won't help.

try to erase the code first,u probably just created it, if it comes back, that's the problem why u have a no start. It could be the wiring, check if u have continuity bet. ecu & connector of maf, check if u have ground & voltage on the terminals of maf sensor. I need more info, what year, model is the car, manual transmission?what ecu & engine harness u r using, any mods. It could be the distributor timing, did u remove it , prior to installation? Check ur injector pulse w/ a noid lite. There r many causes of a no start, make sure u got fuel pressure, at least 35 psi. Start on the maf code first.

thanks for the info Jetroy240. the car is a 92 convertible and i swapped in a ka24de from a manual car. im using the auto harness, manual ecu, engine+transmission is from manual car so the TPS is a manual but the auto harness has two plugs for TPS. so one is plugged in and one isn't. the timing and distributor is corrected and triple checked by two other of my friends and it's ok. i'm making small progress now because now i crank it and i hear low tone popping noise from the exhaust. this is after the timing. i called it a night because the plugs were filled with gas so i took all the plugs out to let the gas evaporate. hopefully it was just weak spark that's causing the engine to not get that extra push to turn over. and i agree, there are many causes of a no start and going down the list is the only way to find out. thanks again

looks like it's already flooded, make sure u got good compression at least 150 psi average on each cylinder, let it dry-out, blow compressed air on each cylinder, clean the spark plugs, make sure u got fully charged battery to get a good , fast cranking.

what does blowing compressed air in the cylinder do? this is the first time im dealing with a flooded engine.
