it does when they are too hot and your HAZ is out of control, especially with SS it becomes very brittle and prone to fractures. I give you credit though for a 17 year old and probably pretty new your doing good!, a little hint i learned doing over the top style piping, precision sells those cast ALum elbows that you can weld to the outlet and inlets of the tanks, using those you could have made that piping go tight 90 up and tight 90 over and put that pipe against the top of the core for a cleaner look. but its not bad for a young guy. the only other person i have ever seen that could pull stuff off like that was a neighbor that i started mentoring when he was 14 years old, and by 16/17 he could fabricate complete turbo setups on his own. just keep on practicing on every thing you can

35 amps is plenty within where he should be, but all i was saying is that if the weld is ugly, as long as it penetrated properly, thats all that really matters. It can be cleaned up. I never said anything about the heat

thanks. appreciate that. im not actually that new to it. this is my second year welding. im working on my tig cert. as we speak. ive been wrenching on cars since i was 12. no joke.

since those welds ive gotten ALOT better. ive switched to a thinner wire and dialed everything in. i go from using a miller synchrowave at school to the lincoln at work. it took a good bit to learn each machine and use them simultaneously. my welds now look a lot colder. but still keeps the toes tied in and penetration sufficient. ive been taught by one of the best..

as for the aluminum elbows. i know. we have a couple. at the time i wasnt fond of welding aluminum, especially the rough castings as the PT ones are. i will consider it if i ever use the design..

i think im going to have boss order aluminum bends/piping now. thanks for the input guys.

ive worked with both a miller and the lincoln 275 i own, and i can say i am glad i bought the lincoln, i know alot of people prefer the miller machines, but i really dont, in the tigs at least. now migs thats a different story, i like the miller and hobarts over lincoln, but for the shop the next big mig i get will be a 220v lincoln. brand loyalty just for the hell of it i guess.

Snapon is probably a re badged unit like a lincoln. i know macs are. OTC or hobarts i think.

And there is a huge difference in experience between welding and fabricating, you could be a kick *** welder and absolutely suck at fabricating, i have seen it in person... then you have some bad *** fabricators that suck at clean welds. i strive at both, and i critique my own work way way harsher then any one else's.

right now im working a small production job for a friend thats has me welding up chopper fenders im doing 5-10 a day as he drops them off, and i cant believe how out of practice i was at laying a consistently perfect straight bead, the first batch was horrible, but im getting back in my rhythm again. im so used to welding tubing all day.

keep up the work! and keep showing photos of your work , i love seeing other peoples work its inspiring. check out the honda tech boards they have a great fabrication forum that alot of great fabricators frequent, i think there is even a guy from 1320 on there. and its alot about hondas, but not all about them.

haha the honda tech guy at 1320 is Austin. He's cool as ****. losing his mind though. he's pretty good at what he does. i thought he was bull****ting me when he told me how good of a board it was. they have a lot of useful information. more than just hondas.

and ive been fabricating not that long. ive been welding for little while but im new to fabrication deal. i dont think i got off to a bad start but im never happy with what i do. i have a long way to go.. ive been more worried about getting my certification than anything though. havent been making much. thanks guys.

yeah i was surprised also, i didnt think there were that many hardcore fabricators in the honda world, its refreshing to find a group thats doing stuff like i am, just on different cars. Dont worry about being new, just keep practicing and keep that humble attitude its refreshing to meet a youger guy thats not full of him self even when they compeltely suck. its so much easier to work with and teach people who know they need help. i still take alot of lessons from the older guys in the city when it comes to fabrication that im still green at.

Welding certifications i never got any, but i will if i close down my shop and look for work in the welding field. most employers train you for the certs.
