The fuses in the fuse box under the dash is too small to accommodate that size spade bit. You're best bet is to find the cigarette lighter wire and tap into that.

if you can use this slot to tap into if you have the right parts:otherwise you may want to look into your manual to see where some of those wires are tapped into, and just tap into any where that comes on when the car is turned on.

by the way, where are you mounting your radar detector after hard wiring it? bottom left of the windshield to hide the wire??

i've got the same one, had it since summer, it's saved me twice so far. got mine for $250 new.

i want to put mine up top, but i'm afraid the dot matrix will get in the way, plus i don't like having the cord hanging in the middle of my car

Yeah i never had mine that high, until i got the wire kit.

But i do know the higher up the windshield the more accurate, now the dot matrix cant block it that bad ( it's tint right) You should be able to see it from the back window tho....

P.s I got mine for 180

I'm very happy with my blue x50. Saved me buncha time on the way and back from FL. I also have my x50 directly wired but I used stealth cord that taps power from the back of rear view mirrors.

I plan on getting a radar detector as well. I agree with where you placed yours, up top. I was thinking, could you have used the wire tap on one of the power sources thats in the map light area?

Yeah lol... why hardwire it!?

I have a stealth cord (they are nico fabricators!) for over a year.. i think it was under $15 delivered, and took all of 5 minutes to hook up!

haha :\ I just bought a hardwire kit too, haven't hooked it up yet. Did you run your wire down the pillar? How did you get it to that fuse box?

i would suggest not taping into that wire if you have a volt meter you can check what wires in the fuse box turn on when your cars acc switch pops on so it turns on and off as your car does...i dont remember which one i used but i can prob take a pic if you need.

yes you are supposed to mount it high without any obstructions it will perform better that way.
