so i bought a 97 q45 a week ago.i've since registered it and spent some time cleaning it and want to bring it to get inspected today. yesterday i changed out one of the headlight bulbs sinice it was a weird VERY blue while the other was normal. when i got the battery out of the way and that grey thing off i was disgusted. someone had messed with the wiring here.i havent looked at the other headlight yet, but would imagine thar there should be harness with a plastic connector that the bulb plugs into. right? my car had a 100w blue h4 bulb in there with no connector. the individual spade connectors were connected to the bulbs spades. and the metal clip was messed with also.i put a regular 9003 bulb in there anyway to go to inspection with.what i would like are part numbers for:the plastic connector for the headlight harness, the metal clip, and any other part of the headlight connection i may be missing.i would be eternally greatful if someone could get pics of their unmolested light/bulb/harness/connectors.

also looking for part numbers for:cabin air filters (cannot seem to find this)fuel filterall the drive belts (and tensioner if i need it)engine air filterfront license plate bracket with hardware

the car seems to be in great shape otherwise. it was tinted at one point though and im going to have to get the rear window defroster repaired (lines cut when removing tint i assume.)

a few pics of the car:

side shot after car wash

front shot

***

matching headlights now

**** bulb

i wonder if the other side headlight connector was ghettoed off too. (didnt wanna pull off air box and other **** to see tonight) so annoying...

Nice looking Q! Mine is a black 99 which looks just like yours.

Some parts are easy to find..others are not.

I ordered "all the belts" from Infiniti of Scottsdale (AKA "Joe") and received three. Well, the car takes 4 and two of the ones they sent were the same. I had the car apart when I made this discovery. Arrgggh! So, I walked across the street and was able to pick up the other two belts from Advance Auto. I just assumed that they would be impossible to get and was wrong. Turns out I could have gotten all of them from AA.

All my tensioners seemed fine, but I found a guy on ebay selling replacement bearings cheap so I picked up a set to have on hand in case anything starts howling.

From Advance I also picked up a fuel filter, air filter and cabin air filter. All in stock. All cheap.

I cannot comment on your lights as mine are different. Good luck with that.

There are some here who presume me a miscreant, loser, low life, scum, tightwad, fool, moron, idgit, nimrod, doofus and reprobate (among others) for not ordering all OEM parts, but hey...it's my car and my cash. I bent over good for all the front end parts but there is a limit to my bank account...so.

If you choose to try and save a few dollars here and there feel free to join me and Forrest on the bench at the bus stop.

Try Andy's "Lightly Used Q Parts" for the License bracket. He has excellent service and fair prices.

maxnix- haha, yeah, i know better. that bulb is garbage. like, it was literally in the trash after that pic. too funny.oldmako- i specifically want oem parts here. i'm not a snob about it. for a little more money i would rather have oem. especially the air filter as i had to replace a mafs on my z33 last week due to having a cheap aftermarket filter put in. (not upgrade aftermarket, just cheap replacement)i emailed andy and havent got a response yet.i wouldnt mind buying the bracket new either though as theyre ususally less than $40 for any car.belts- i would never go worse than stock. i had an rb25 s14 a few cars ago and jumped that the chance to buy a greddy timing belt!the car was smoked in before me and still kinda smells even after cleaning it.i tried to clean the headliner yesterday and it cam out ok, but i may need the carpet shampood.another reason i want the oem cabin filter. no new smells needed. the car is smelling better every day though.

i actually ordered novus and xpel film to take care of the headlights. i'm also going to take them apart and remove the orange reflector in there. (ive read 6-7 min in the oven at about 225* is enough to separate them)i want to buy a spare set of tails because i have a friend who is going to convert mine to all LED and i still want to drive the car during that time.

i'm on a few other car forums about this car as well, but this board seems to have the most normal people and actual reliable info about the car.

Yes. There's a previous Y33 owner used similar (if not the same) wheels with a 1" (25mm) spacer.

Here's the thread zerothread?id=218159

If 19's are what you're after let me suggest the G35 coupe forged 19's, they're the same (if not less) money than the M45 sport and will require less spacers, if any actually. Not to mention they're a better wheel.

Hi There:

I just picked up my first Q (98 Pearl White) about a month ago and I can understand your hunt for the proper parts. I can also relate to the endless cleaning..........

BTW, the part # for the HVAC bulb (there are five of them in case you needed to know) is 27545-5P600.

I only know because I bought a replacement HVAC unit and one bulb was burned out.

As for the PO being a smoker, I feel your pain. My car was "occasionally" smoked in and doesn't smell like smoke, but it was really dirty inside (beige interior) especially the headliner and I have spent the last few weekends trying to clean it up piece by piece. It's been difficult doing anything with the weather being below zero here in Chicago.

I will tell you THE WORST project I had to take on has been the rear window tint removal and destruction of my defroster lines, keyless entry antennae and FM antennae. I purchased a repair kit from Frostfighter.com and will give it a shot when the weather gets a little warmer. It sucks not being able to use my keyless more than 2 feet away from my car and also having the rear window blocked with fog and/or ice lately. I may even have to buy a complete grid repair system from the same company if I am not successful in repairing it.

I ended up replacing my front license plate holder with a new Infiniti G35 piece (good luck finding one for a Q) I bought on Ebay for $20.00 including shipping. You should be able to find one online as they pop up ever now and then. It has the proper shape on the front bumper and looks fine once you mount it.

Well, good luck with your new purchase. PM me if you have any questions and hopefully I can lend a hand.

Ted

thanks for that part number!youre in the same boast as me, huh?i'm going to check out the website you mentioned about the defroster lines as i have the same problemi talked to a local mechanic i trust and he says you can buy a product that's kind of a "conductive paint"my car still has a couple pieces of the old tint left near the high mount brake light, hahai want to get the windows tinted and need to repair this first. i havent had a car tinted since i was 19 (27 now) but i think a very light tint would look amazing on a black y33.i will post any progress or stuff i find out here.anyone know how to better get ahold of andy?

After you shampoo everything and maybe even replace the headliner and insulation, you will probably have to use BG Frigiclean to try to get some of the carcinogenic gunk off your coils.

When you soon replace your filters, don't forget the cabin filter.

Couldn't pay me to take a smoker's car.

The 19" M45 rims post was mine...I wouldn't agree about the quality of the G35 rims, the M45 Sports are Enkei's and they rock. However, I wouldn't have done it over again if I'd known when I bought them what it would take to get them to work. I used 1 1/4" spacers that I had custom made, they cost me $275 delivered, but these bolt with the old lugs directly to the hub and create an entirely new mount for the rims, read VERY safe and no issues with anything.

If you can find the M45 rims for a good price (I got mine for $700 bucks, brand new) than this works. If you're just in the market I'd get the G35 rims or better yet a 18" or 20" set of FX rims. For certain the FX rims require no spacers. That said, the car with spacers looks VERY VERY good with the wheels pushed out to the corners. I have no rubbing issues at all. Next set of tires will be 245/40 19" to get a little more sidewall the the 35 series provides. I got 35 to make sure i'd have no rubbing, but I'm confident the 40's will work, wish actually I could go 45 but I would be worried about that rubbing.

another part number request is the lip on the bottom of the front bumper.mine is broken in the middle. here's a pic of what i'm talking about.i circled what is left of this lilp.

the rear has a lip made of a similar material that is also not painted. i checked a few sites and searched google and could not come up with a part number or find one used.anyone know of one for sale or the part number?i guess i could just take it off and live without it, but i would rather get another.

IIRC, the front and rear "lips" are actually part of the bumper covers. The bumper cover usually comes as one color and then the shop has to paint the upper portion the color of the car and then tape off and paint the lower lip the matte black finish.

If a part of your front lip got cracked off, you may have to get a decent black bumper cover and replace it or if you are so inclined, find a used bumper cover and have it repainted.

If someone else knows whether the bumper cover and lower lip are two pieces or not, please chime in. I looked at mine last night and it appeared to be one piece.

Good luck. I am moving onto the front suspension. I still have some more repair woork to do on the rear defroster, but the kit I bought fixed my damaged keyless antennae.

Evaporator coils.

To the best of my recollection, this is part of the A/C system in the car. Cabin and/or outside air is pulled thru this unit for cooling and then is blown back thru the vents. Over time, it has a tendency to become impregnated with the smell of whatever goes thru it, not to mention becoming rotten and cloged. Good luck with your "new" Q. It looks very nice.
