Well I tried some things cleared my codes hoping the knock sensor codes wouldn't come back but they did. I have a 1997 Q45 and need to know what all is needed to do the job. i called Infinitipartsusa and the guy didnt sound to sure about it but he thought i'd need just the wiring harness($15.32) and 2 knock sensors(128.68 each). Do those prices sound right? Is there a gasket that should be replaced in the process or hoses? Technical names or part numbers of these?

I think if you replace the harness, which is a very good idea, you have to pull at least the upper plenum. It will probably be gunked up, so a take off clean out is a goo idea. The lower plenum involves pulling the injectors and two gaskets there. You will need 3 EGr gaskets, IAC, and TB gaskets.

Be sure to thoughly clean the EGR tube tha goes inot the plenum. Strongly consider doing plugs and VC gaskets as it will never be easier.

I've pulled and cleaned the egr, iac and throttle body a couple thousand miles ago. so i could leave those connected to the upper plenum when i pull it this time correct?

Yeah, but it is a hassle. Yyou still have the EGR down tube to disconnect. then there is the bracket on the PS.

Like I said, once you see the condition of hte upperplenum, you will want to pull it anyway to clean it. Same with the internal EGR tube. I guarantee it is coked.

Depends how meticulous you are. I took my manifold into a machine shop for them to clean as they could get it spotless in their chemical bath much faster than me with a Dremel and brush and solvents, so that was a couple of days. First time, you have all parts, maybe 8 hrs. for the whole thing. I am dead slow and study the manual and take lots of pictures and label hoses and bolts and clean them, lubricate them.

Then if any of the special hoses need replacement.....it's call Joe time.

Don't pull the top plenum!!!!!!

You can access the knock sensors through the front by removing the alternator and fan. Should take you about a day of work (mostly trying to find out how to disconnect electrical connectors).Try to do a search on knock sensor and you will find good threads with pics.

Thanks 5zigen!

If you are going to go with Farfetched's method, but sure to order the short rubber hose. (See link from Farfetched with pics).
