WTF thermostat! I did an emissions removal a little bit ago and while i was taking off the manifold I just thought I'd replace the thermo too. Well it started overheating QUICK once i threw everything back together. I took out the thermo and ran it, Temps were fine system bleed out nicely. So I got a thermo from Nissan Installed it and BAM! overheating, the thermo refuses to open, nothing coming out of the blurp hole, hot air, bleeding the system correctly, losened the upper heater core hose. NOTHING the damn coolant WONT FLOW. This is really starting to piss me off. I did this a little bit ago with no air problems. Im thinking there is only air hitting the thermo and not coolant?! HOw do i get the damn coolant to flow to the thermo?! Any help would be appreciated, tips & tricks??

Prop the thermostat open with 2 aspirin pills when you install it, it'll move the air bubbles out quicker, and it'll later dissolve and let your thermostat work properly.
Bleed the coolant out on an incline.

I dont think thats very sanitary... ^^

Um so about the pills everyone can scratch that they break under the pressure when the thermo closes.
WHat Im thinking is the rad cap has to be on and bleeder off, because the system has to make some kinda pressure to draw the cold coolant in right?

WTF this is ridiculous, Its been running for like 30 mins and the temp is staying right under the *H a little water is barely trickling from the blurp hole (when thermo is all the way open it streams out), no air bubbles, and it never gets hotter or colder just stuck there.

You may have warped your head from overheating now since you ran it for so long while overheating. DOHC KAs don't like to be overheated for very long. That wasn't very smart...

Can I get a picture of which way to put the thermostat in?

I recently bought the car w/o the stat in,,i forgot the reason why, but it may be because it needed a new one, and it never got put it. If im running cold while coasting, and slightly under opertating temp thru the city in stop n go traffic, whats my chances of overheating after i put one in?

Yeah KA's are retarded, they are so picky the way you have to bleed the air out of the cooling system. I had to loosen the bleeder and run the engine for like 10 minutes under load for all the air to get out. What a lot of people do is park on a very steep hill and run with the rad cap off to get all the bubbles out. It's a pain either way. This was with Duralast and NISMO thermostats that I had to do this with.

Any engine needs to be bled, not all engines have a bleeder. The reason you jack it up is so the cooling system is higher then the motor. They have been doing that since cars were around.

yep a set of ramps and jumping up and down on your front bumper works, also while squeezing the upper rad hose making sure it doesn't get sucked closed.

Im guessing put correct adapter on your rad, fit water sealing neck to that and the funnel to that and viola you can over fill you rid and see bubbles come out. But it doesnt seem necessary the way I do it.

A little birdie told me that the 10mm bolt by the intake manifold above the water outlet can be used to bleed the coolant.

That thing eliminates all bleeding issues. The best $20 you could spend if you own a 240sx,180sx, S13. First of all, notice that the radiator filler neck is a decent amount lower than the engine; this causes air bubbles to get trapped in certain spots of the engine such as the back of the head or the heater hoses. Typically you will have to jack the car up in the air or put it on a slant (even the FSM says it!) in order to bleed all the bubbles out. With this you simply
1.)Park the car on flat ground
2.)unscrew the stock bleeder screw
3.)Fill with coolant until a stream of coolant comes out of the bleeder hole, put the bleeder screw back in and tighten it.
4.)Put on the correct funnel radiator cap adapter and put the funnel on.
5.)Fill the funnel up about 3/4 full and start the engine with the heater on full blast.
6.)As the car is running you will notice the level changing, let it run for a good amount of time (i usually let it run for about 15-20 minutes maybe longer because i am anal) and you will see it continue to rise and lower, rev it up a few times and it should rise and lower still. It will then lower a decent amount and it will stay down there.
7.)Confirm the heater is hot and then pull the funnel and cap adapter off and place your radiator cap back on.
Viola!!! 100% bled cooling system.

Strange, i have never seen that work before. I know how it is supposed to work but it still just does not. Glad to hear you two had luck with that though. :bigthumb:
