would this be a decent drifter?

well I'm not going to get into the you having that car bs . .

As for your selected mods:S14 is good, but a well tuned S13 is just as good and cheeper

Bride seat - Better be a bucket, and not a reclinable pos.

greddy intercooler - I have a VSPL and its good, but you gotta decide if your KA-T or Sr, and go from there. Suspension mods are better than power to start anyway.

Chargespeed bodykit - I'm not a fan of aftermarket body pannels. They never fit and are usually so agressive that any real driving will just rip them off (ie: D1 drivers)

Apexi Gt exhaust - not unless your going to be moding the engine, and then which one is that ka na? 2.5" pipeing for na. kat sure, but exhaust is mostly preference. I went with the RSR GT2 for the light weight.

Injen intake - decide turbo or not

18" rims - already said, to big. I have about 240hp and I'm only running 16" wheels. less mass to move arround.

pirelli tires - M&S?!?! NOOO! DO you know what M&S means? Mud and snow! WTF. Azina's, es100's something with a little bit of performance potential. I know the pzeros look cool, but that does NOT make a good tire. Do a LOT of research on tires because they are the most important part of your set up.

Wing - Personal preference. I have a wing about that big and I think it looks great. No real performance value, but whatever. I got my **** off egay for like $200 so whatever.

Tanabe coilovers - Good, but $$$. For that ammount you can get something better. Aviod JDM brands because opf the lack of US support, or at least find out of they have us support. KTS's are great . SPL parts are the ****. You cant really go wrong there.

Swift sway bars - See these are solid which means heavy. I have Tanabe's and they are hollow and chromolly. Very light (comparable to stock), but they are HUGE. The car corners very flat and changes direction much faster with these and the 8k/6k spring rates.

Sturt Tower Bars - Not ssure about S14, but in my oppinion the only ones worth getting are the CP racing ones. They attach to the firewall. The car is weakest at the point where the doors meet the front fenders. This helps that. Fender braces also help. If you want JDM tyghtness you could try and find the tomei one which is was nice, but dont expect to ever see it, and if you do expect to pay A LOT! The CP's are $230 shipped for BOTH F AND R! Only problem is that there in Canada so shipping takes a while, but well worth the wait.

GL, and go slow with the mods. Driver over everything. I've already been through 3 S13.

dude, we're just trying to look out for you... we don't want to see you on the news or on an online article because you screwed around in the street and got yourself killed or you killed someone... the car you got or thinking about getting is not bad at all but you do need to learn how to drive it. best way to do it is on the track... but remember the track is unforgiving as well...

FYI... KTS is a JDM brand, SPL sells their coilovers. I know for sure Tein can be rebuilt here in the US OF A, and I think JIC can too.

and for the kid. Just learn to drive your car first. It doesnt matter if u driven "X" car or "Y" car, every car is different.. Just buy a s14 or s13 whatever model you like and can afford and LEARN TO DRIVE IT RIGHT!!

yes, all these guys are absolutely correct. I have been involved in motorsports and racing since before i had a liscence and I started with a bone stock s13 not only do you not have to worry about crashing it, but it also gives you a much better understanding of the car, and teaches you car control so when you start getting better and faster you can control the car. I have driven 400+hp domestic vehicles most of my life and getting in a 300hp 240 is unbeleiveablt different, and if I diddnt start stock I probably would have crashed myself

dude, if u want it then get it. why should u care what we think. its ur money. if u wreck it due to lack of driving experince u might learn from the mistake or u might cry like a little girl and go to a different motorsport. what u need to do is go to ur local autox events and learn how to drive. it will teach u a thing or two.

yeah like the guy up there said. it doesnt matter what car's youve driven int he past. i am here to tell you.. there are no 2 cars that drive the same on this earth. every car reacts differently no matter if you do the same thing in each car. it will do different things. ie. when i first got my 240... i drove the **** out of it. IMO thats what you have to do to get use to a car. SOMETIMES you'll go over the edge, but it is savable. trust me even on wet roads.

start small, buy a 240, throw a diff in there, go to local drift events, practice, rinse lather repeat.

the problem is your attitude, having driven a Z means nothing, trust me. your being the exact stereotype you want to avoid. relax, start small, and dont try too hard.

im still caught up on the Greddy intercooler thing and the injen intake??? You need to figure out what ur doin with the car first...and like everyone else said....there is no way u are goin to be able to handle a modified S chasis right away....start out stock with a good LSD and soem coilovers....screw the rims...ull just hit a curb with em and scratch em up and start crying....leave the stock steelies on there till u know how to drift....and when u decided to go "screw around" make sure its in a HUGE parking lot away from everyone.....

Im not flamin you, but drifting isnt about how ur car looks, its about how well YOU can make the car perform....It has NOTHING to do with HP.....take the Ae86 for example....very low HP matched with short gears and amazing suspension= amazing drift car.....

by the way, loose the wing idea, or your bound to get flamed by many

Am I missing something, why all the flamming? Who cares if its his first car, he is dreaming, like all have done. Think back when you were 16 and got a car and wanted to make it a race freakin forumla 1 car.

A 240sx as a first car is not a bad car. Sure its rear wheel drive, but rear wheel isnt that hard to drive. And we all know its not a powerful car. Drifting is cool to learn(I guess) just as long as they keep it on the track or whereever a "sanctioned" event is held.

More power to ya. Get it if you want, take care of it and DONT RICE IT OUT.

just tell me wat you think of the car you've come to a friggin' nissan website, you're going to get a lot of positive words about an S14. but with a kid with an attitude like, let's say, YOURS... everyone is gonna tell you to sell it to someone with more than 2 months of driving experience. z or no z. that doesn't mean SQUAT. ...im sick of having ppl telling me that the car is too overpowering for me truth hurts, don't it? ....i dont care anymore and i got the point do you? so contradicting... .....is the car good or not...and if this site is like pbnation....ill report you to a mod if you flame me how old are you? ...
I think we scared this kid away, guys

Buy 240 -> Screw around with friends -> get pulled over for screwing around -> insurance goes up -> brag about new mods on nico -> screw around some more -> wreck car screwing around -> post pics of wrecked car in nico gen chat -> part car out in nico classifieds -> become another pwned teen that thought he was invincible and it could never happen to him.

Take the advice man...
he speaks the truth...i got my license and was like yes i can do anything i want...i had visions of me drifting and F1 racing running through my mind every time i got into the car. i didnt think what anyone said was true about these things. no one drives the speed limit and abides all the laws with a hot car like that. im glad my dad stepped in and told me i hat to drive my 98 altima and keep the 240 off the streets...for now anyway....i have plans for this car when im older..im 16

if anyone has hasnt noticed... I think the kid has realised he does not know much about cars and thus has left.

Seriously tho there is a lot that you can do and learn from when you get a stock 240. Hell I loved it when I changed out all the bushing and i mean ALL OF THEM and how much better the car handled and felt.

spend about 3 months in the engine section/240 area and READ EVERYTHING and maybe you just might figure out how many wrong moves you choice for your first car.

you dont need turbo until you have alteast attended 5-10 drift events then you can made a little more logical choice then.

So this has been dead for like a week now, and i just read it. I was laughing hella hard...

my point is, you guys are f*ing harsh, so the kid wants a 240 for his first car, and he wants to throw money into it. He wants to start drifting. So Y don't, instead of reaming him a new one, we encourage him to do stuff safely, that car sure as f*** wont roll on flat ground, so let him find himself a big freaking parking lot, and a large open arrea and learn, thats what i did, im 19, i have been drifting for only like 6 months now, and i can connect drifts, and controll the car to a level now that i am comfortable with. I just put an sr in, and its completly different , its just like learning how to drive again, yet for somereason, i still go out and try it, taking the chance that i could crash. OMG who cares, don't drift at like 2532mph and do it in an open area, and its gonna real hard to f up that car.

Hell, id love to have an s14, but i couldn't affort it, if he can, more power to him. If hes stupid and tries to drift on 4th and J...hes gonna crash it...but let him figure it out.

And yes. that is a good base car, but you really do need to research because this forum is a HUGE info database, and i actually didn't even subscribe till i started my motor swap. So research...cuz i ahve to admit...the random intercooler thing...just buy it and give it to me. U don't need it with that sick of intake. J/K
