judging by your signature you have a ka?

and its very hard to say what is annoying and what isnt because every person is different.

when u say 3", we usually think 3" all the way through

a muffler, like brm, will sound nice.

even a ka can sound decent with a 3"brm exhaust....just a lot louder

i dont think anyone has ever put one on a rb25.

should be fine. inline 6's are sexy sounding. i have no muffler on mine at all and it sounds evil. hehe

I have hotshot 2.5" headers, 3" test pipe, 3" RS*R ExMag II, and its painstakingly loud. I hate the loudness of it, but thats in a 240 with a N/A KA.

so for an rb25det, would 3" w/no resonator/no cat be best for making more power, or could i get the same w/ 2.25. 2.50in?

put a cat on

the power loss is so minimal its not worth the hassle for emissions.

and 3" or nothing on a RB.

going 2.25 on a turbo car isnt the best idea, you would just be choking your turbo, turbo cars dont need that backpressure the N/A car's do, I wouldnt go less than 2.5" for a turbo vehicle. and Kamin I dont have emmisions.

alright guys thanks 4 the info, im gonna go w/ the brm 3" exhaust w/ a cat. and kamin, i know i prob should search but i was wondering 4 your car, how hard was it 2 swap in the rb25 because im seriously like changing my mind everyday between an sr20 and an rb25. the price isnt that much more for the rb25(2,695 @jazzproparts w/free shipping) plus its an inline 6! im confused also to what the basic essentials are to the swap, these things i already know i need:

-motor mounts-driveshaft-intercooler-bov

i already know i want to replace the oil and water pump, and i want to get a headgasket and some headstuds...but what else would i need just to get on the road? thanks alot!

You dont NEED a headgasket off the bat, you also may want to do a timing kit on it. and replace all the belts hoses, theres alot of stuff you can do as preventative maintnace but it all depends on how deep your pockets are. I also belive you need tran's mounts too.

your gonna spend 4-5k to get a RB25 in and running the right way.

p.s. DONT buy from the cheapest place you can. get your engine from a GOOD KNOWN REPUTABLE importer.

ill never understand why people try to save 200$ by getting the engine from a fly by night ****hole then get screwed when its a bad engine.

and since their website says this Nissan SKYLINE RB25DET (GT-S) R32

id never buy from them. (no such thing as a R32 RB25DET)

Well, I have a 3.25 on my Laurel from the cat back and a split front pipe. At cruising speed, the exhaust note is nice and deep. Sounds beautiful. At WOT, it gets a little louder, but not unbearable.

It also depends on what type (brand) of exhaust you have. I see Skylines runnin around with pretty much the exact same setup as my Laurel but with different manufactureres and their cars are louder than mine.

I have a 3" Apexi N1 on my RB20. On the sohc ka it was really quiet at idle, almsot silent, but really loud at wot, not bad loud, it sounded good but when my interior was stripped it got old. I put a carpeted board over where the backseat used to be and put the trunk back together. That made it a lot more pleasant to drive but I still was getting tickets for the noise. It wasnt actually illegal, the cops just didnt know the code, they only had an abridged version that left out an exception that made it ok as long as it wasnt over 95db... anyway...

I have an rb20 with a 3" downpipe and 3" test pipe now and it still sounds good. Oddly though it is loud at idle. I think it sounds great and its never obnoxiously loud thanks to the FI. I'll get a video clip one of these days when it's running tip top so others dont post dumb questions about making an rb20 sound like a 26.

I can hear turbo spool louder than the exhaust so I am still happy with the real n1.

what about venus auto? they're even cheaper than jazzpro, and they're reputable...if i bought a messed up engine from jazzpro, they would replace anything wrong w/it right? i was also lookin at jrautoparts.com....im on a tight budget lol but i understand that saving up a lil more is worth it in the long run...but i want that damn rb25! haha

Heres a vid of my RB20, 2.5" down pipe, 3" test pipe and 3"Fujitsubo NGK cat back, like Carl said drone is a little bit annoying on highway, but underpasses sound good.

Also, 3" will be fine for you, unless you really plan a major build in the near future. In theory the Turbo provides enough backpressure to get good starvation in the exhaust valves, so everything after that is just restriction basically. Do run a cat, like mentioned before a hi-flow cats flow well and you should use one. The I-6 sound is different too so a lot of exhaust setups that sound decent or average on a I-4 will sound way better by comparison. My SR now will get annoying a lot quicker Ive found, its a 3" down-test-RS*R

Ok guy,

Lesson 1. All four cylinders minus i think a few sound like complete and total *** n/a with big exhausts, my 240 did my friends 240sx didnt though, he had the HKS hi power 3.4 inch exhuast on his and it sounded deep and quiet.

Lesson 2. All straight six engines sound great with or without turbo and no matter what kind of exhuast you have on it, it will still sound good.

I have a Megan Racing exhuast 3 inch with a resonator and no cat. It sounds great.

You have to be magical to phuck up the sound of an inline 6.
