I have a full 3" stainless BRM exhaust with no cat and no resonator.
At first, before doing my 5-speed swap, my cruising speed in my auto KA was 70-78 MPH on most highways, meaning 2,500-2,900 RPM, and let me tell you, it was annoyingly loud. I even e-mailed Greg and lamented for not having him install the resonator!
I did the 5-speed swap, and 420 whp KA-T, and now my normal cruising speed, the car's reving at 3,300 RPM, and much less annoying. Damn near silent, in fact. Just enough to let others know you mean business. It gets annoying when you hit traffic, and you're down in the 60-62 MPH range, but once you crawl past the 3,000 RPM mark, or go below the 2,200 RPM mark, it's all good.
At stoplights, it sounds deep and very, very mean. I'm not a kid (36 years old), but I have to admit that I periodically do the young driver thing and give it a little gas just to let people around me know what the little red 240's got. It sounds like a V8 at idle. With my manual swap, I haven't thought another moment about adding a resonator! It's nice just the way it is. Loud, but deep.
