ok...so on friday night, my friends and i were gonna get a drink. We were driving down this really wide and straight street with no cars. He drove a black bmw 540i and i drove a s14 with sr. I was following him and all of a sudden he just speed up and took off. Since i wasnt too familiar with the streets in that area i tried to catch up so that i wouldnt get lost. I reached around 6000rpm of 3rd gear and i think i was at nearly 70 mph...The speed limit on that street was 45mph i think. When i was about to shift to 4th i realized how fast i was going and i slowed down while my friends black bmw was still acclerating....and yes the worst thing happened. A cop from the opposite direction saw us and he pulled me over...he couldnt get my friend cuz he was long gone. To make the long story short. He said i was street racing and that i was going at over 100 mph. I thot to myself WTF??? 100mph?! How could i have reached 100mph when i didnt even pass 3rd gear? I knew that he was talking out of his a$$ cuz he didnt clock me... my cop detector didnt go off...he even told me himself that my speed wasnt radared. I explained that i wasnt trying to race my friend, i just wanted to catch up with him... But being an a$$ that he was, he cuffed me, took me to the police station for a couple hours, and impounded my car...
i dont know what they are going to do to my car and what kind of penalty i might get... shiz i am worried...
worst weekend of my life...

that does suck. one day i was late for work and it was right after i put my turbo kit on. this car infront of me was doin 25 in a 40 so i passed them. well a cop was at least 200 yards away at a road work site he told me to stop. asked how fast i was goin i told him i got up to 45 to pass that guy. he says "bull**** u were doing at least 50". this guy is looking from straight ahead far away and thinks he can tell a 5mph difference. he didnt even have a cop car it was a nissan frontier i think. he looked at my plate, told me to stop driving fast and turned around.
the cop charged me with street racing and going above 100 mph... i am all stressed out right now. the cops in my city really had nothing to do. Keep in mind that i live in a small city in and there were probably 4 or 5 cops in the whole city during the night. It took 3 of them to arrest me...two to make sure i am sitting on the curb not moving an another one to check trough my car. they even brough a helicopter...dude what did they think it was? grad theft auto? and i just hope that my car is ok. Yea i am taking this to the court for sure...would the judge believe me if i told him the truth?

This is SOO bad. Were you alone in your car ? I would definately protest the over 100 violation becasue this is BS. And usualy when numbers are that big cops better have radar measurments to back it up.
One thing for sure, you want a good lawyer and you want to tell the the truth and say you're not familliar with the area (it happened in SoCal I assume). Admit that you accelerated to 70 to catch up with a friend who was an *** and if you get him to come to court that would even be better. You both might get away with 70mph tickets in 45 if judge likes you/your story.
I only pray you don't get into whole emissions crap with your car.

your definitely screwed. If they impounded your car and took you to the police station that's bad news. Here's the absolute min. your going to face:
1. $1000 or more to get your car out of impound2. $300+ speeding ticket3. Traffic school if its been over 18 months since last 4. Insurance $60+ a month (depending on prior record)5. 3 points for wreckless endangerment and street racing
The worst:1. $1000 to get car out of impound2. Loss of lisense for min. of 1 year or lisence suspension3. Possible emissions hassle (if they find out)4. $300+ speeding ticket5. 3 or more points on record6. Traffic school7. Wreckless endangerment, street racing, exhibition of speed Violations8. Huge insurance increase or possible drop from policy.
How do i know? 2 of my friends dads are cops, one is a CHP and one is a local cop. Plus, i just went to court for a 60+ in a 35 ticket and i got another one to pay by the end of the month. I would definitely look into getting a lawyer if you can afford it.
Also, the cop that gave me my 60+ speeding ticket by just "estimating" because i was "flying" so bottom line, if your hauling azz they dont need anything to give you a ticket. fight it. ive known people that have gotten off because they werent clocked on radar. I believe a cop cant give you a speeding ticket if its not on radar or he hasnt gone to a class inwhich they get a certificate to judge speed of cars. Id be worried about them knowing a thing or two about nissan and they pop your hood.anyone know what happends when a 240 with a sr20 in it gets impounded?

Sorry to hear that too, my boy in his 300zx got a ticket for 95mph in a 55mph. He didn't get locked up or car impounded, but he gotten a 500 dollar ticket and like 6 points I think. But he went to court and his attorney got it down 74mph in a 55mph and had to pay 250 dollars and got 2 points instead.

if you want to save the silvia you will probably have to make some shytty story. your still gonna get raped by impound once you get your car back leave cali of go back to stock. and the police on the east coast suk too. The night of receiving my new s15 front i was joyriding next to my friend in a paseo. Since he has no exhaust it was really loud. story short the penalty for street racing is felony (mandatory 2yrs. and loss of P. O. V. my saving grace was i was military and so were the cops.
I wonder how long until the cops move onto something else. What happened to the war on drugs? Come on, isn't it more profitable to pull over drug dealers?
Oh, that's right. Modified cars are easier to spot than drug dealers. Not to mention, easier to impound and less likely to be driven by those packing AKs.
