Well I'm at the mall with my friends and we decide to go see Watchmen. We run out, jump into my car and speed to the movies thats about 15 min. away. Movie started and it was sold out so we decide to go to another movie theater *close to the mall we just left another 15 min drive* to see if they had any good movies playing yet. On our way there, were laughing, joking around like normal teens untill I stop at a red light. My brake, oil, and battery light go on and the car wont go. I turn the car off and start it again and its fine. Drive it a bit more untill the next red light and it happened again, but this time the car wouldn't go more than 15 MPH. I put my emergency lights on and drive hoping i could make it to the movies *which was like no more than half a mile away*. Car stops on my way there and I pull over to the side of the road and try the little trick again but this time it wouldnt start. Tried turning it on again and I noticed smoke coming from under my hood. Open the hood and hear the sizzling from the radiator. Decided to maybe wait it out and along comes a good samaritan. Kid trys opening the radiator while its steaming, I don't know but I thought everyone knew those when hot build up a lot of pressure, hence the sticker on the cap with the warning. After 5 min along comes a cop, and I dont have a license. Cop calls a tow truck and while im in my trunk getting my jump starter, I hear WOAH look and see antifreeze everywhere. Couldn't believe what happened, to bring this story to an end, $175 later here I am, with a car that doesn't run. Anyone know what I should do? Planning on taking out the SOHC for a DOHC KA, so quick question would the same wire harnesses work with both engines?

Dude, that sucks man.

No, the harnesses are completly different. I just finished up with that same swap and you had to have the ECU and the wiring harness. I was going to try to use my KAE harness, but I layed them out next to each other and they are indeed different.

Yeah, s*** happens. My car had two holes in the block. Sucks when things happen, but if you fix it yourself, you learn and grow with your car. Someday, you will know that car like the back of your hand and it will probablly end up being one of the best cars you ever own

Am I missing the point here? Did your radiator just blow or did your motor take a s*** on you?

So your weren't arrested for being an idiot unlicensed driver? No offense but have some respect for the law. What about insurance? Do you have that either?

Sizzling radiator, shutting down, fluid everywhere and you kept driving on it...... your gonna need a head / mill job along with that new head gasket.

Next time, when there's something wrong with your car, like it shuts off, lights come on, and things happen that aren't supposed to happen, STOP DRIVING lol jeez.

......... So you were speeding 10mph over the limit, you don't have a license, and you don't ever expect to get pulled over?

1. Take your drivers ed so you can get a f***ing license, you CAN get arrested for not having a license and they will if you get pulled over a numerous amount of times.2. STOP your car and check it out when it turns off and your dash lights come on.

well i really dont think 10 over the limit is nothing if basically all the cars around me are going even faster i dont know about where your from but i know cops give leeway with things like this if you go 75 yeah ur getting pulled over 65 they don't care and im not going to spend $500 that i dont

Im getting my juniors but still that doesnt help but if i drive fine they wont bother me and i know you can get arrested for numerous times im not stupid but i never got pulled over

I thought it was my battery because recently i had a problem with my battery that it died.

Jesus im just asking for help not criticism im not stupid i know what to do. What should i do know it wasnt my engine that shat on me it was the radiator but now why did it overheat. Im thinkin about it going to go check everything out soon but i don't want to put too much work into a single cam because in the end its just a single cam

if its just your radiator why not try and build a turboed sohc. there are some pretty insane parts for the 24e out there plus you will learn a s*** ton about your car. your car seems to be a good candidate for it as well since it has 116K on it. my car had a turbo on an 24e engine with 182K and it lasted a long time.

the reason it over heated was probably due to a water pump failure so that should be checked as well as the thermostat also since you did still drive it i would check to make sure the head gasket is still good and if it was the water pump go ahead and change the thermostat while your in there its only like 5$ and its better to do it while you are already in there than hope this helps you out

yeah i had a cutlass (dont ask) and i blew a head gasket or gaskets and it would start and drive fine no noise nothing but after a few minutes you would hear the radiator boiling and then running into the overfill tank and it would start steaming on the windshield so you couldnt see i thought the radiator hose was loose a hair so i tried to tighten it up just a little over did it and the hose blew off giving me 2nd degree burns on my arm (wrist to mid bicep) so deff just let it cool all the way down to avoid injury cause it really sucks lol

Did the same thing to my CA18 once. Damn temp gauge didn't read off because there was no coolant for it to read. I hit a stick and it pulled the lower rad. hose off and I never saw the coolant leak out. Sucked.

Anyway it was almost exactly like you mentioned, and what did I do? I left it where it was overnight, then the next day I came back with a few gallons of water, filled her up, and she ran just fine.

You might not have been as lucky as me (and I don't think there is any Nissan engine quite as resilient as the CA, except maybe the GA) but your car MIGHT be fine.

it sounds like your car is running hot. check the radiator fluid. mine did the same thing, but it wouldnt even start when it came to a stop. do the lights and radio work inside when you try to turn on the engine. idk. i would def look to see if you have any antifreeze up in there

You are completely naive for your age, that is understandable. If you are choosing to drive then take full responsibility for it. You may not be stupid now but when you do crash you will look incredibly stupid.

To be honest, I would not even give him advice on fixing his car without him legally driving it.

Get your license, for your own sake as well as others on the road.
