Forgive me, Jesse, but when Harvey Keitel tried to utter the line "I'm a mean God-fearin' son of a ******" with a straight face, I had to suppress the urge to eject the tape from the machine and give it some of my .30-06 medicine.

Well the point of the movie was to be a joke...obviously by the vampires alone, you can tell the movie wasnt to be taken to a serious note.... : ) The second one was sooooooo bad...but you gotta love the "titty twister' hahahahahah

I do admit, rather guilty, to liking Cheech Marin's cameo in FDTD.

Joe vs. the Volcano was pretty bad. (good one) How about Howard the Duck?. That was a cinematic lowpoint.

howard the duck was great, and its own genre pretty much...gotta love the creativity...i'd watch that if it was on hbo tonight : )I think i even saw it in the theaters

Anyone ever see "The Son of Ricky"???????

yea, cheech had 3 cameo's i think (4?)...the customs cop, the guy outside the bar, and the drug dealer....i think he was somewhere else, no? i forget.

I thought eight mile was suprisingly a bad 'film', i know it did well and was carried by marshall, but still i wasnt impressed with it at all...i guess i expected too much.

Ok, here are a few more to consider (just popping in my head:

Ishtar (Dustin Hoffman + Warren Beatty + desert = flop)

Rhinestone: Sylvester Stallone singing country like a sick moose with Dolly Parton, but thanks for the mammaries.

Rocky 4 (Rocky vs. Dolf "I mahst breck you" Lundgren) Sappy and dumb.

I don't know why I can think of bad movies more easily as good ones. Okay, how about

Clue (rule #1 never ever make a movie about a board game).

Smoky and the Bandit 2 & 3 The original Smokey wasn't horrible, but each sequel got exponentially worse.

Agree. How about:

The Golden Child (with Eddie Murphy, which was more like a golden turd) Heaven's Gate (one of the all-time moneylosing movies)

How about Polyester? (you could nominate several Roger Waters movies to this list) Nothing like watching someone eat dog poo at the end of a movie.

EDIT: I could add some Jon Woo films to this list too...flame away, but I think his movies are cheesy tripe with lots of Bruckheimer-esque explosions, melodramatic and predictable scenes, repetitive martial arts crap, smoke and mirrors and generally no sense of plot or character. They SUCK.

Someone...get......me.......some.............digoxin.................

:sniff sniff: No luv for A.I.? :(

RobDet and Nathan, both you guys just shot up to the top of my "to-convert" list.

From my understanding, David's "mother" wasn't resurrected- the advanced robot beings composed a virtual simulacrum to fool David into thinking she was back from the dead. The viewer's awareness of this fact makes the ending all the more compelling and sad.

IMO easily the best film of either Spielberg's or Kubrick's esteemed careers. There's so much to dissect here, so many layers my appreciation grows furthermore after each viewing.

Just wondering why it didn't do it for you guys. This film has a polarizing effect on audiences- people either love it or loathe it. But oh well...as another NICO member eloquently put it..."something made to offend no one is the epitome of boring."

i don't believe they were alieans... I think they were evlolved machines. And they said they could bring someone back from the dead but only for a day. Thats what the hair was for... I just didn't really care for the movie... I prefir Gattica or Dark City for a darker movie that makes you think...

The thing that makes me think they were machine was that at the end they said something like "the makers" or something like that...

Yeah I just now caught my mistake. It's just so many people I've banged heads with about this movie referred to them as aliens, it's almost second-nature. But you're right, they were advanced robots. Products of the genius of man, but superior to their creators in every facet except one- in spirit.

Good choices by the way, Dark City and Gattaca are easily among the best sci-fi movies ever made, well of the ones I've seen at least.

No prob, Rob. Shameless plug- I churned out a 30ish-paged analysis of A.I. in philosophy class, care to read it and give A.I. a second stab? Heh, I know I'm a geek, but I love this movie, I really, really love it!

<------Huge movie geek.

What can I say? It was a course requirement to write a third-page thesis paper, figured I'd write about something I'm passionate about. I'd grab a .45 and splatter my brains on the wall if I had to write about the other choice: race relations and the collapse of community values...Seriously though, can't believe I did it. You couldn't beat a 30-page paper out of me with a billy club. :D

Kubrick is a genuis in his own right I believe...............

I heard his widow is releasing a book with the script of napoleon and a bio of his life can't wait to get it

If you want to talk about dark movies Donnie Darko is the way to go it is ranked a close running to number 1 movie in my book

I liked most of Kubrick's work but there are three words that keep him from being a genius: Eyes Wide Shut. Swampgas City.
