I'm no expert jepardo but could be your temperature sensor. And well its nice to finally know the problem, guess I'm going to have to take a good look at the whole thing. Also if it was broken, wouldn't it make a noise or something when cranking. It feels like the engine is so close to starting.

it might have just came off the bottom, it could be getting smark and fuel just not turning the cams to ignite

Since your distributor is crank driven then you get a signal to the ecu to fire the injectors and of course you get spark from the distributor still spinning. If exhaust valves are open then once you get enough fuel and spark in that cylinder then it will fire and sputter. That is why it sounds like it wants to start. No noise because the chain broke and is not in contact with the lower gear anymore.

Here's what you need to do. http://www.nicoclub.com/articles.php?id=220814

Thanks for all the help guys, especially slipknot. Is there any possibility that the chain hit something else and caused more damage, or is this just a simple replace and fix. I had planned a DOHC or some type of swap in the future, would it be better to go for that now. It just seems kinda weird the chain would break with only 130k on the motor. Kind of makes me lose faith in it.

Uhm... Doesn't the car have to be warm when you do a compression test??

LOL

Also man, it sounds really stupid, but maybe your fuel pump is out

Check the Fuel Pump fuse definitly

That's 1 thing that hasn't been covered.. You probably didn't even need to buy plugs

Yeah I figured I should just give it a try, had a gauge. Idk about the fuel pump idea though, because I'm getting fuel on the plugs and I hear it turning on, plus I disconnected the lines and saw it myself.

if the timing chain is bad skipped or otherwise..... KA24e is non freespin engine. you may have bent one or all valves. when you check compression you can do it cold. you will not be as accurate but it will give you something. and if you add a tea spoon of oil in each cylinder before you spin it for the test it will let you know if it is a valve problem... if the compression is for example 90psi redo the test on that cyl w/ the oil and now it jumps to 140psi. it is not a valve problem. if it stays the same it is a valve problem. but you will not be able to tell without pulling the head until you repair the t-chain.

If you read the whole post you would know he has fuel and that the cam does not rotate with the crank. Also the engine does not need to be warm and it has no noticeable effect on the compression numbers.

Your non-freespin engine is called a zero clearance engine. Yes the dry and wet tests are good ways to tell if your rings are bad, but can give a false positive with the valves. The best test to check valves in a wet leak down test, or run air into the cylinder and listen for air in the intake or exhaust.

Jepardo, you do know piggies don't like the cold right!
