They covered this "AC vs. windows down" topic on that Mythbusters show. They confirmed the 'myth' as it were, if memory serves.

It was "confirmed" as a myth on one vehicle, IIRC, a pickup trunk and their method was to let both run out of gas. I don't personally find that to be a very scientific method

Hey, SbD, it's bright and sunny. Have you waxed yet? I'm waiting for the pics...

And the A/C thing. I've found that the A/C costs about 1 - 1.5 mpg. At least, that is what the fuel consumption bar shows in my car. But then, I've never driven with the windows down.

I don't understand how a 2006 6MT is getting so much better mileage than the rest of you. Is my situation that unusual?

Do you have nav? I'd be curuios to see what the on-board system thinks you are getting ("info" button, then..... can't remember where from there).

hehehe..... thanks. Sorry, the insurance agent frowns upon my handing the keys over to anyone.

Too bad you are in CA or I'd offer up a ride though; always up for letting ppl oggle from the passenger's seat.

I always thought it would be a good idea to make G25, but lowering the cost further from what G35 cost is probably not justified. That would just make infiniti bump up the G35 price and make it less marketable. After all the bang for the buck is why most of us settled for a G.

I'd like to see some G25 TDI. BMW makes 2L turbo diesel engines with 200 +HP that gets 50 + mpg and has more torque than our G35. Nissan should explore that.

Im getting 26-29 on the highway. and i get around 20-23 in the city. I don't understand how you guys are getting >18mpg anywhere. I drive the infiniti hard but not that hard. I keep good air in the tires, oil clean, and clean air filter. I also keep the lights off during the day and the ac off when it is >85 degrees. I drive a lot of highway and i keep the front windows down and the sunroof open!

Oh and yea we need to jump to hydrogen and then when the masses go out and buy those cars the gas will drop to 1.50 a gallon and then we can fill our g's for cheap and drive them Really Hard!

I think it has to do with a few factors.

1) Coupe vs. Sedan- The weight and difference in power/torque will make a difference.

2) Weather- Extreme heat or cold will make a difference. For those of you in the very cold areas, I'd suggest a WAI. Having one on my I30 when it was cold gave me great fuel economy and power.

3) Gas blends- We run off of 80% water and 20% Tequila down here in Cali.

4) Driving style, driving style, driving style. Plus the type of traffic in your area.

I also consistantly get between 22 and 23 MPG on my daily 100 mi RT commute all on 87 octane regular.I wonder if using premium + mods reduces MPG?I luv my G

BTW oil is up today to 2.95 to $108.63 a barrel and wholesale regular unleaded gas is up $.12 to $2.62. That puts the retail price over $3.00 a gallon here in NJ. Get ready to dig a little deeper in your pocket

the mods i have help the MPG and the premium gives me about 2-4mpg better than the regular.

I know how you feel about regular but the book says premium for a reason!

I do not have Nav. I just check it the old fashion way - actual miles divided by gallons used.

What I can say? In Poland 1L (yes, one liter) costs little more than 2$, and my 180sx can do 13-14 mpg when driving it in city.

Today I took my G on a trip that I had taken many times in my Max. I reset the fuel minder as I used to do in the Max. The Max would report an end of trip average of 24.5-25.0 every time. The G reported 22.5. This was a trip on I-15, a very hilly freeway in So Cal, driving at 70-75mph.

She has an appointment with Infiniti tomorrow for her first oil change. at 2500 miles. (dino oil)

Actually no. I initially assumed the tank was filled with premium when I took delivery back on 12/31/05. After reading many posts that dealers just fill with regular and I never noticed any change when I started refilling with regular I've just continued to use it. Even if premium gave me another 1 to 2 MPG I don't feel it would be worth it? Although I love the performance of the G, I don't race and it has more than enough power to suit me. The MT is a very fun vehicle to drive and even though I probably could have worked at home today, I drove in anyway because I love driving my G
