How many of your would buy a G anyway?

Imagine prices >$4 per gallon by summer and going up to possibly $5-6 within 1-2 years, would you still by G that gets <23mpg on average?

Why not - the only thing I have that gets better milage is my bike - better than 45 mpg. Even my nissan pickup gets worse milage - about 18 - then again its got "33s on it. My old ranchero gets about 18-22 and who knows what the 67 mustang will get by the time Im done with dropin in a 351w with a 5spd and converting to FI with twin turbos. Well maybe the 78 spider gets better if I'm nice to it but that project is on the back burner behind the mustang...

So in short - If I need to cary anything or take more than 1 person the G is it.

From Wiki,Nissan updated the VQ line for 2007. The 2.5 L VQ25HR (for "High Revolution" or "High Response") is only available on rear wheel drive vehicles. It produces 225 PS (165 kW) @6800 rpm and 194 ft·lbf (263 Nm) @4800 rpm with a compression ratio of 10.6:1. It has CVTC, microfinished camshafts and redline of 7500 rpm. The intake is a high-flow tuned induction system.

A Nissan Skyline equipped with this engine was used by Nissan engineers to prove it was possible to achieve 1000 km (636.5 miles) on one tank of petrol for an overall fuel economy of 6.14 L/100km (38.3 miles per gallon).[1]

It is fitted to the following vehicles: 2006–present Nissan Skyline V36 (sedan)

I think a G25 version of the G, on a 250+/- diet would be a great choice. Something even close to 38mpg would be welcome. If I was single I probably wouldn't care.

It is over $4 here and I've got probably 12-13 mpg. I don't know I don't check it. If I had to buy a new car again it would be a G.

On the news tonight, they showed a little station on Hwy 1 (the long coast hwy in mid CA) that was selling reg for $5.19. & $5.39 for prem. I wonder what price will signal the demise of the SUV.

People do care about gas prices, but what are we going to do about it...cant complain when we need the gas, maybe Infiniti should come out with a Hybrid G37...i just filled my car up the other day and i had a 1/4 tank left and it costed me 48.50 to fill up (3.52@gallon of premium)...i think a Hybrid that doesnt take away from performance would open alot of doors...hey lexus is doing it

Tell me about it - $50 yesterday left me just under 3/4 tank in the G - and of all things my bike took almost $20 to fill up - now thats making me ill.

I think if alot more of car makers came onboard with the Hybrid thing, i'll bet gas prices would drop but the damn lobbyists would mess all that up

I just filled up my car last night and it cost me $59.60 ($3.87 for premium) for the whole full tank.....regardless of the price, people would have to fill up because we can't really go nowhere w/o gas right? Too bad we can't help control gas prices because of political views about it....

It costs me around $75 bucks every 4-5 days... I'm around $4-5 gallon, and I used to worry about it, now I just continue to drive around making as much cash as I can!!! I gotta keep working, but I gotta drive to each job, so it's tough...

I'm with zozo... people don't care anymore, it's just out of hand

I wish they would do an economy mode to even get a few more miles per gallon.. IE, instead of shifting to the left for Sport, shift right for Economy.

I love having the HP there when I want to have some fun, but cruising around town on saturdays I don't need all that HP.

Seeing how gas prices are right now, I probably would have bought something else.

Maybe another I30. At least I was getting consistent 19MPG while pushing it. Probably around 23-24 on the HWY.

I'm sincerely thinking about doing some REAL aero mods to the G and putting it on a diet. Also, doing a complete Amsoil conversion of all fluids. I should be able to yield a 10% + or so improvement with all of that. Then I'll come back on here and sell the system too all of you

How in the heck are you guys pulling 23 on the highway???? Consistently 19, too?Should I be expecting crummy mileage until a certain number of miles on the motor until everything really seats well? I have around 6800 right now, but would think I'd be getting the best I ever will (about 15-17).

Zippy, are up up in elevation?? That would cause crappy mileage. Make sure your tires are good (pressure/alignment/tread). But to really get decent mileage, you have to adjust the way you drive. Don't flog it at every stoplight, try to not stop when approaching a red (starting from a standstill consumes much more fuel). Close your windows and use the AC. And finally, stay under 65mph. Try those techniques for one tank of gas and see if it makes a difference. If not, there there is a problem.

No, I meant 19 and 23 with the I30, not the G.

If I drive normally, not too spirited, not conservative, I get around 17-18 MPG in the city. I can squeeze 19 out of her if I drive conservatively: Slow acceleration and shifting at 3000 rpms.

I haven't topped 20 MPGs with the G yet. I was hoping that our G35 meet would have yielded me better MPG numbers since I drove like 200 miles that night, but I still sat at around 18.75 (must have been the WOT take offs and pushing 95).

My wife on the other hand is rubbing 25 MPGs on her Celi. That's with her just driving normal and old spark plugs. I'm scared to hear her next report with the new bosch platinums.

From a gas mileage standpoint, the G35 was loads better than the Titan is. A 4-5 mpg difference translates to a lot of money these days.

If you want to see better gas mileage in the G35 (or any car for that matter), lower your cruising speed. Driving at 75-80 will burn more gas than driving at 60-65 as wind resistance will increase dramatically the faster you go.

I drive ~100 miles a day, both in town and freeway driving and am able to average 21mpg in my 2007 G35.

Freeway I usually do around 75mph and in town I am just light on the gas...

I get about 24 miles per gallon on the highway. Not sure what I get around town. 24 with the G seems about the same as 20 miles per gallon with the Sequoia that uses regular fuel. I am too lazy to do the math.

No, I'm at sea level.I'm painfully aware of all the "don't drive fast" and "don't jet off from a light", but what fun is that!

When you guys are getting really good mileage, I assumed you drove it as the car it is and not purposefully trying to save fuel. I have seen my real-time fuel consumption when I turned on the 'info' mode on my nav system, but quickly turned it back off when I saw the bad news.

I guess I was hoping you guys drove the car like me... not full on speed racer, but I definitely like to downshift a lot.

I am closely monitoring just to see what makes a difference and what doesnt, I like to know

I don't know if your comment makes me feel better or worse. I'm at 6500km and haven’t had my first oil change. I'm getting about the same fuel economy as you are. I suspect we have very similar weather most of the time. I definitely do not drive hard or excessively fast. I've got old ladies passing me all the time. I always park it in my garage, so cold starts aren't all that cold. I wouldn't say that I'm bothered by the rising cost of fuel. I don't really care to much (yet). It is what it is. I love the car but it should be better, fuel wise, than what we are getting. I will be asking my dealer when I'm in for my oil change soon. i can't wait to hear wht he has to say, if anything.I would like to know what I need to do to come close to the numbers Infiniti claims on their website; 12.6L/100km (22mpg)City and 8.7L/100km (32mpg)Hwy (with this disclaimer note: 1. 2008 Estimated fuel economy. Please see your Dealership for details. Actual mileage may vary with driving conditions. Use for comparison only). How do they test vehiclefuel economy anyway? Perhaps driving on a 0%grade, glass like surface, no wind resistance, optimal altitude and temperature, no acceleration or deceleration in the calculation. In other words, nothing remotely like anyone’s daily driving conditions. Curious...

G_whizz,

Depends on the drag created by your windows down. Some vehicles do better with the windows. Others do better with the A/C. For the most part, especially if you drive overly fast on the FWY (75+ MPH), the A/C will be most beneficial.
