I was just curious about how many people here still have their wisdom teeth? I have one coming in and it is weird, sometimes it hurts, sometime it doesn't. Does everyone have to get them pulled?!? And does it hurt? I think mine hurts alittle bit cause they are breaking through. Can anyone share their wisdom teeth experience?!

yes I had to have all 4 of mine pulled out and my face was all bruised and a bit swollen for a few days ( i had all pulled at once) but they gave me some painkillers and a bunch of gauze for the bleeding ... all in all it wasnt that bad of an experience... i was in and out of consciousness because they gave me the laughing gas! woOhoO

anyway eventually you probably will have to have them pulled if you dont want a bunch of pain and crooked teeth.

Aren't the wisdom teeth the ones that grow in the back of your mouth? Well I have like 4 new teeth back there and they moved my gums back and everything. It hurt for a while and the gum meat flapping around wasnt pleasant at all but it's "okay" now...I should be slapped for not having been to the dentist since 97....looooong story, and not really my fault, more of the parentals.....but luckily my teeth are all pearly white and I have never had a cavity...although i still resent my parents for not taking me...I cant wait till I turn 18 next year so that I can get all of my records and not have to rely on my parents for stuff like that.....Anywho just my 2 cents...

I had my wisdom teeth taken out over spring break. It was alot like 89240sx said. I remember them giving my the gas and thinking, "It's not working! Oh no! I'm gonna be awake through the whole operation!" Then I remember waking up. ;)

i got mine out in March. I only had 3 and i was knocked the F^CK OUT!!! The day after i wasnt all swollen or bruised and the pain wasnt bad at all. I was pretty scared goin into it but it was not bad at all. The worst part was probably the bleeding afterwards. You bleed a hell of alot, but it was only on the first day for me, after that it was smooth sailing. I wouldnt be too worried about it if i was u.

I'm in the same situation as you right now, actually. My top ones are starting to come in and it hurts on and off. Sometimes I'm fine, other times my mouth aches and my teeth feel all pushed around.

I do need them out, I've seen the x-rays and they're going to ruin my teeth if they're allowed to come in fully, but unfortunately the insurance I'm under has already reached their maximum as to what they'll cover for me this year, so I'm SOL unless I get work benefits soon. I cannot afford out of pocket costs for oral surgery.

i had my bottom 2 pulled out a while back and 1 of my top one is coming out. I had to pull them out because it was sideway?(dunno why it went side way) and it didnt' have no room to come out and it hurt like hell. Anyway they gave me the laughing gas and i was HIGH the whole time but after the gas thing went away it hurt like CRAZYYYY and i couldn't eat for a week. When i went to pull out the 2nd one i was sitting there all happy waiting for them to give me the gas again..=D and after the gas went away it didn't hurt as bad as the first time.

I got mine pulled last summer.... I don't even remember the surgery. Like 89240sx said, I remember thinking "hmmm the gas isn't working" and then I remember waking up and walking out to my mom's car :)

But yeah the worst part was definitely the bleeding the next day. But after that first day it stopped and life went back to normal. Just couldn't eat normal food for about 3 days.

I have 8 wisdom teeth. The dentist actually asked me if he minded if he showed my X-ray to his "colleagues". I'm a big whimp and still haven't gotten them taken out.:icon18

My expierence with gas has been it has little to no effect. I don't know whether or not it's just that i was so young last time I got it (11) that they didn't give me much or something. But I generally have a high tolerance for everything....I always made them give me more novacaine then they were aloud to also...

well i got my wisdom teeth out a week ago. i can personally tell you to pay the extra money and get yourself knocked out or sedated. i took it like a man and had only local anesthetic. of course i have 400 extra dollars to spend on my car but the pain is something that you will only experience once in your life. i think it would be less painful to die than have them removed again with just local anesthetic. just my 2 cents. enjoy

They gave me my stuff intraveinously. It was weird, but really cool now that I look back at it. One minute I was panicking in a dentists seat, and the next I was sitting at home in a La-Z-Boy with 3 hours of my life missing. After that I had a serious case of 5:00 shadow, because I couldn't shave that whole week.

I had mine out last weekend.

I walked in, sat down, and the doctor pulls out this needle that is the size of a gas pump and it was then that I realized I wasn't getting gassed. Man, I was pissed.

I got 2 shots in each cheek, and one on each side of the gum on both sides. 8 shots total. It didn't really hurt much, the only worst part was when they push the gums away, you can feel the pressure, and then he had to drill a notch in one of my teeth to pull it, and that is a HORRIBLE smell. There is nothing like it. They gave me amoxycillin and codeine and sent me on my way. I was in pain off and on the next few days and I really now am only able to eat normally again.

I got mine out last summer on the 4th of June. i had three and they were coming in all crooked. went in, told them no gas, and then they gave me a shot in the arm, and put the thing on my nose and i remember walking to the recovery room and then stumbling out to the car. and yes, the bleeding SUCKS. soo gross when you have to change the gauze. but the food and service from the folks is nice. since im allergiac to codiene, they gave me oxycotin, gOOOOOd stuff, take one and it knocked me out for lke hours and when i woke up i was still messed up. and a week after the surgery, i was down in Deep Ellum at the KMFDM concert right next to the mosh pit.:ylsuper

Yeah pain meds give you the best high...it really sucks to be hurt enough to actually have to take them tho (almost broke my neck with my jetski a year ago).
